Sunk cost, I kept thinking "oh maybe this change will fix it!" Turns out I just wasted my time, either way I'm happily working with Zed now :)
jerlendds··on Ask HN: What software subscriptions are worth paying for?
Proton,Mullvad
jerlendds··on Ask HN: What the project you're most proud of?(Feel free to share a GitHub link)
It's going good! I'm currently taking some time off work due to medical issues I ran into which is kinda nice since I get to dedicate more time to OSINTBuddy. Overall my journey has had plenty of ups and downs. In short I'll be forever grateful to the software industry for being mostly meritocratic, I'm not sure where my life would be if all companies required degrees.

I created OSINTBuddy (https://github.com/osintbuddy/osintbuddy), this project allowed me to break into the software industry despite being a highschool dropout and it's managed to gain a tiny bit of popularity in some niche OSINT communities, this still surprises me haha.

I've been in the process of rewriting/refactoring the codebase these past few months to use Rust instead of Python and Vite instead of create-react-app. OSINTBuddy is a web based version of something like Maltego (https://maltego.com/). I started the project years ago and its currently my main side project although I have a few other ideas I plan to start building starting next year.

Looks cool! Similar to what I'm building: https://github.com/osintbuddy/osintbuddy
jerlendds··on My open source project was relicensed by a YC company [license updated]
I've had similar happen to me by company out of Paris, France lol. They yoinked the backend out of my OSINTBuddy project which is AGPL licensed then tried to get me to work with them where they were going to sell access without also providing the source code

jerlendds··on Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (June 2025)
I'm working on rewriting OSINTBuddy in Rust with Apache Age and Vite+preact ( http://209.46.122.104/docs/overview - sign in/create account will not work yet). You can think of OSINTBuddy as node graphs, OSINT data mining, and plugins, or as an alternative to Maltego. The project was previously written in Python using JanusGraph and the frontend using create-react-app. I still have to wire up all the frontend endpoints and write out a Rust websocket but once that's done I'll more or less be at feature parity with the old Python edition.

The code and a demo video can be found here: https://github.com/osintbuddy/osintbuddy (and on codeberg)

Technologies: FastAPI/Python, React/TypeScript/Node, PostgreSQL, Python, Golang, Bash/Linux

Résumé/CV: Please reach out for a copy of my CV but you can see an open source project I work on here: https://github.com/jerlendds/osintbuddy

I love all things that have to do with graphs, ETL/web crawling, and full-stack web apps among many other interests. Check out my Github to see a Maltego alternative I've been working on in my free time.

Check out https://github.com/jackyzha0/quartz (docs site can be found here: https://quartz.jzhao.xyz/ )! I found it recently and customized it a bit to redo my personal website (https://studium.dev don't mind the header on mobile, I need to fix that still). I plan to transfer my Logseq notes to it eventually but you could just as easily do the same for any markdown based notes
jerlendds··on Canadian internet bill S-210 is a step closer to becoming law
Why are so many media organizations and news outlets quiet on this? I've been searching around for any hits of S-210 and it seems there's remarkably few! If you're Canadian let's spread the word!

jerlendds··on Ask HN: Show me your half baked project
First time coming across this, looks very cool! Definitely some ideas there that I'd like to implement for osintbuddy. Another project I'm going to be taking some ideas from is: https://github.com/ail-project/ail-framework - a modular framework to analyse potential information leaks
jerlendds··on Ask HN: Show me your half baked project
I completely agree, I have auth/accounts implemented but there's a few data models I need to update yet before that's fully integrated with the application and I can push those changes. I didn't list the roadmap tasks in any particular order but I appreciate the tips
jerlendds··on Ask HN: Show me your half baked project
OSINTBuddy - https://github.com/jerlendds/osintbuddy - https://osintbuddy.com

Node graphs, OSINT data mining, and plugins. Connect unstructured and public data for transformative insights. My long-term goal is to turn this project into a viable alternative of Maltego/Palantir type software.

Currently my roadmap looks something like:

- Refactor and clean up the code base all over to make it easier to onboard potential contributors

- Improve the UI/UX

- Moving/sandboxing the plugin system/crawlers to it own compose service

- Adding a settings option to the plugins system and a way to directly query a graph with gremlin

- Adding another graph display mode to the UI (using https://www.sigmajs.org/)

- Creating a registry/marketplace for plugins where anyone can upload, share, and download plugins

- Adding accounts and RBAC

- And many more things to come but for now the above tasks are my focus :)
