jensgk··on Booting from a vinyl record
Great hack :-)

Reminds me of the vinyl records with games on, that were sometimes included with home computer magazines in the 80s: https://www.rediscoverthe80s.com/2014/01/80s-first-video-gam...

jensgk··on Nature supports Joe Biden for US president
I think you answered your own question ;-)
jensgk··on Nature supports Joe Biden for US president
Covid-19: At least two thirds of 225 000 excess deaths in US were due to virus (from march to july)

> it has many errorneous statements

You used the word "many", do you have any more examples?

This comes to mind: https://www.bang-olufsen.com/en/speakers/filter/bluetooth

I have the A1 (1.gen.), which have mostly received good reviews.

jensgk··on Python Wheels Crosses 90%
> I would love to see a move towards "static" binaries that package everything together into a single, self-contained unit.

Isn't that why Docker is so popular? If we had Python static binaries (or the ability to have several versions of the same Python library installed) would we use Docker so much?

jensgk··on Crossfeed – more natural sound for headphones?
I recently came across the crossfeed concept. I think it does make the sound in headphones much better. It seems to be a very simple and natural thing to use, so why isn't it more popular?
jensgk··on Ask HN: Why Are Conditionals Important?
It is possible to approximate logical expressions without conditionals. This is an old problem in neural networks. See more here: https://towardsdatascience.com/emulating-logical-gates-with-...
jensgk··on To Fight Climate Change, We Need More Powerful Supercomputers
The proposed Future Circular Collider at Cern is estimated to cost more than 10 billion USD. Should we use that money for a climate supercomputer instead? Or maybe invest a comparable amount?
jensgk··on 42 percent of new cancer patients lose their life savings
If you test a lot of people, and also have a many false positives (i.e. people who are diagnosed with having cancer, but actually do not have it), and then "treat" them, you will end up having a high cure rate..
jensgk··on Transputer
As a student (around 1990) at DTU (Denmark) a friend and I did a project on trying different methods of mapping backpropagation neural network algorithms/architectures to a computer with 16 T-800's using the Occam language with its (in)famous folding editor. Those were the days :-)

jensgk··on Note by Note: The Making of Steinway L1037 (2007)
"Pianomania(2009)" is another great movie/documentary about the piano business. It is about the passion and dedication af a Steinway piano tuner.
jensgk··on Statistical Anomaly Detection
That sounds very interesting. Could you provide any links to papers or methods used ?
jensgk··on Modelling game economy with Neo4j
This looks like something that could be done with Prolog, - can anyone enlighten me as to the difference between Neo4j and Prolog?
jensgk··on Fifty years of Moog
The Moog company also made a great iOS synth app called Animoog. Very fun to play with. Also probably the cheapest way to own a genuine Moog product :-)
jensgk··on The SAS vs. R Debate
> SAS is basically a slightly improved excel.

SAS is a pretty big system, and I have worked with SAS for about 10 years, and I can't see any similarity with Excel at all. Which part of the SAS system do you think resembles Excel ? Here is a list of their products (http://support.sas.com/documentation/productaz/index.html)

Btw. I do think I am doing serious data analysis in a bank :-)

jensgk··on 24/192 Music Downloads are Very Silly
Absolutely. Music is purely a subjective experience, and it is absolutely ok to prefer a special sound over "fidelity".

This also justifies the "vinyl record" craze, as long as the "fidelity" argument is not used.

If it sounds good it is good :-)

jensgk··on Heroku Releases Free PostgreSQL App for OSX
That would be essential. I just installed the thing + pgAdmin + Induction. I can't get it to work, because there they do not tell what the default user/pwd is...
