jeffhuys··on I've acquired a new superpower
I can even rotate my eyes! Did you know we have muscles for that? I trained it in the mirror - try tilting your head and look at your eyes REALLY closely: they rotate a bit to cancel out the tilt.
jeffhuys··on I've Acquired a New Superpower
Yes, I didn’t think people would be so amazed by it either. Like it’s mind-blowing that this works or has been thought of. But we first did it once as well, some people just discover it late in life I guess (or not at all).

Also keep the size low. If you’re having a hard time at 20cm from a 4k 30” monitor, it won’t come easy. Zoom out.

Don’t CROSS them. Relax them, like you’re tired and can’t focus on a computer screen.
jeffhuys··on Tactility: OS for the ESP32 Microcontroller Family
Meshtastic is another project that has recently made serious strides[0] in their UX on the Lilygo T-deck (and similar ESP32 devices), but specifically regarding LoRA-enabled devices.

It's still on a branch, but I compiled and ran it, and now I have two T-decks that can communicate with eachother off-the-grid without a smartphone attached to send messages; it's actually usable in emergencies now, which is why I bought the devices in the first place.

Currently in the process to deploy a mesh from me to my parents and family.

I actually am kind-of happy that this doesn't work on Mac (if you don't install Acrobat) / preview.
jeffhuys··on Ending our third party fact-checking program and moving to Community Notes model
Already the case - disabled is now lesser abled or something.

It’s pretty retarded.

jeffhuys··on WebGL Fluid Simulation
Oh wow yeah!
jeffhuys··on GPT-5 is behind schedule
Local models are GOOD as well, and easy to use (ollama + open web ui). OpenAI has to perform a huge trick in order to stay relevant.
jeffhuys··on Updates to H-1B
I think it’s more a question of do you want to enjoy the same benefits as your parents? Yes? Then protect those benefits.

Not protecting them is how you get behind. America produces smart people as well.

Ps. I’m Dutch. This same rhetoric is all in the West. It’s shifting.

jeffhuys··on Updates to H-1B
Psst, the societal opinion on this has shifted.

We shouldn’t feel bad about protecting ourselves.

jeffhuys··on Trying to Recreate iOS on the Web
> Creating stuff from scratch is not a fun experience

I'd have to say that I completely disagree here - it's one of the things I get most fun out of, even at work.

jeffhuys··on I made a free Figma library packed with components for fast prototyping
Honestly, your comments are much more “Reddit-like” to me than the post/actions you’re referring to.

Think of it this way: AAA games will now have to do something MORE than just "amazing graphics" in order to set themselves apart. Because if I'm honest, almost all of the newest games coming out is just the same gameplay + updated graphics.

Well, guess what, very soon even I could do that. So what do these studios have in store to make us come back to them?

jeffhuys··on Sora is here
Like Community Notes? It's actually a darn good system.
jeffhuys··on Sora is here
You mean civitai.com? There's a lot more on there than just that...
jeffhuys··on Debanking (and Debunking?)
But then we have to pay taxes on any amount of cash money above ~650 EUR in the Netherlands. They WANT to steer us towards cash-less, and MANY shops in the Netherlands have already stopped accepting cash. It's where we're going - ultimate control. No right on banking, but also it's a necessicity soon. So.... Too bad?
jeffhuys··on Developer wrote 25k lines of Neovim plugin code using phone and touchscreen
For me t9 was king - I still remember to type blindly and know exactly how many times to hit the asterisk to get the word I want.

With touch screens I just turn off auto-correct. Sometimes I hit the words above the keyboard to complete/repair a word, sometimes I hit the word that’s underlined red or blue to fix it. But never automatically.

jeffhuys··on My son (9 yrs old) used plain JavaScript to make a game, and wants your feedback
> I was into pokemon as a kid and wanted to make a "fan site", which is what got me learning

Oh wow, this reminded me... I was also ~12, maybe a bit younger, I don't know exactly.

I wanted to build my own Neopets, using Dreamweaver! I was making page after page, so I could link them together.

Stuff like: "home.html" -> "acara.html" -> "feed acara.html" -> "home after feed acara.html"... I didn't understand how people could make something like Neopets!?!

Luckly my older brother gave me some tips. But yeah, that started off my journey, as well as Game Maker!

Yes, and choosing to ignore this while operating inside Europe will make you susceptible for hefty fines.
jeffhuys··on Australia: Kids under 16 to be banned from social media after Senate passes laws
Much more effective, if it were ever able to actually pass. Which it won’t within reasonable time.

Time for drastic measures.

I really don’t believe that.

It's also the (trying to be) misleading mainstream media. Stuff like "he wants to deport all immigrants" being uttered until the last day - without specifying it's just the illegal ones, which is a very important distinction.

And there are many examples like these, where he's quoted WAY out of context, and that kind of stuff. If you believe that for years and at one point learn that it's actually bs and he didn't say that or the context reveals he was quoting someone else, or negates the comment the next sentence, etc, you start to question ALL your beliefs.

They pushed too far, fabricated just a BIT too much, and people caught on.

jeffhuys··on Former President Trump has won the presidency
I know, right? It's not mine. I don't really care for it either (except for the "kill at 9 months" thing), but it's interesting to see the two groups argue about it. Both seem to think they're undoubtedly 100% right, as a fact, etc.

Compromises must be made!

jeffhuys··on Trump wins presidency for second time
I'm not American, no need to insult me. Also, I don't agree :)
jeffhuys··on Trump wins presidency for second time
I honestly expected more, especially more specifics, but I recognize I'm biased. The reason I asked, is that nobody really knows when you ask them, which is what surprises me often. You needed to send me a link as well.

Of all those, I really like the insulin one.

I guess people in America have different priorities than the accomplishments on that list.

jeffhuys··on Trump wins presidency for second time
So many doomers everywhere. This is exactly the same rhetoric as in 2016. Do y'all hear yourself? America isn't going anywhere, democracy isn't dead, calm down. The world won't end, and you know it. Being so over-the-top is why democrats lost anyways.
