I'm not a Trump supporter, but I applaud YC's decision not to sever ties with someone because of their personal opinion. And Marco Arment should feel ashamed for trying to oust people with different political opinion than his and undermine the cherished principle of freedom of speech.
People would have less problem if the submitted was an open source tool, GUI or not.
P.S. Terminal application does have tremendous advantage when you work on a headless server. I used mitmproxy and it's great. The ncurse'd interface isn't harder to use than that of a GUI.
If you haven't figured out already, I was being sarcastic. This just shows how ridiculous and superficial this whole trend is.

On the other hand, I feel bad that the broad generalization impacts tremendously negatively those Chinese visa students who did pursue their dream and passion which led them to a foreign university. I worked hard to graduate with distinction, and learned my stuff well enough to go on and have a successful career, but I always feel I have to go the extra mile just to prove myself; I have to go above-and-beyond just to gain equal footing. I cannot quantify the negative impact the those people cause, but it's incredibly unfair to be prejudiced just because I may look like those people.
Academic dishonesty is certainly not a Chinese-only problem. The media singling out a group such as the Chinese visa students is certainly a popular thing to do to gain clicks, but it's a little unfair.

I think it can be prevented by `tee`ing bash :
$ curl -s https://localhost:5555/setup.bash | tee bash sleep 3 echo "Hello there :)"
Jessica McKellar, Hilary Mason, Wesley Chun... Cancelling a conference b/c all speakers are white male is disturbing, but it's equally disturbing the idea of "token minority" is IMO.
Side note: I think I'd love emacs if I hadn't learned vim first. Having a real programming language (elisp) for configuration and extension is nice.
You just have to learn it, period. It seems daunting but it's not as hard as some people make you believe it is. I admit vim's plugin system is bad and vim doesn't have a nice API subl has for extensions, but there are experts who write great vim plugins so you don't have to and worse comes to worse, you don't have to load up your vim with plugins to be productive. I have another co-worker who uses vim and is very productive and does not use any plugin at all.
Finally, if you're a new developer, don't listen to the op. Spend a few weeks to learn vim, or emacs for that matter, and you'll be so much better off in the long run.
