jbp··on U.S. Attorney issues statement defending prosecution of Aaron Swartz
So Aaron downloading JSTOR files is very similar to a murder?

I would prefer it to be modelled after Kaiser(non-profit) and add no exclusions for preexisting conditions.

jbp··on Why should I have written ZeroMQ in C, not C++ (part II)
At least for 2nd problem mentioned wouldn't

jbp··on The Tim Cook memo: line by line
>> And secrecy is a patent that potentially never expires.

Do you seriously believe, no one else can come up same/similar functionality/product? I would like a system where they keep the patent secret(nothing is published) for 5 years, and if in 5 years no one comes up with same/similar idea, patent is granted for next 10 years (rather than current 20 years from filing), otherwise patent is not granted. My guess is 99% of software patents will go away.

"No copy line command in Emacs" Did you try "Alt/Meta-w" ?
jbp··on A Dust Over India
Easier said than done. You know it is more complicated than that. India is a namesake democracy, same families get elected all the time. With about 30% illiteracy rate, people don't even know they have a choice, thousands of years of oppression of majority of the population, ... so on.
jbp··on Google Chrome now works on iOS
I keep reading, there is no tablet market except for ipad. Why is that not considered monopoly?

jbp··on Efficiently Browsing Text or Code (esp. with Emacs)
From: http://www.emacswiki.org/emacs/CScopeAndEmacs

ascope is an improvement over xcscope that runs all queries through a single cscope process, instead of starting a new process and reloading the database for each query. It was made by Staton Sun as a merge between xscope and another single-process interface, bscope

jbp··on Efficiently Browsing Text or Code (esp. with Emacs)
I agree. For static callgraphs I use doxygen, for dynamic I use "m-x gdb" :-)
jbp··on Efficiently Browsing Text or Code (esp. with Emacs)
"cscope + ascope" is the best thing ever I found for groking the code(in emacs). It is great for getting your way around huge code base. I find myself using "ascope-find-this-symbol" all the time, which gives me all occurrences/usages of that symbol.
jbp··on In Defense of Anonymous Speech
True, I upvoted that and wanted wider exposure for this article. So I thought resubmission at different time would work, but apparently not.

jbp··on Steve Jobs' memo to startups
Exactly, Steve wouldn't be back at Apple if he(Next) didn't sell out. No Apple A4/A5 if PASemi didn't sell out. No Siri either if Siri didn't sell out.
jbp··on Why FSF Founder Richard Stallman is Wrong on Steve Jobs
How many people support(ed) the freedom of artists to draw Allah? It is just non-sense that you'll be offended by someone unless you allow yourself to be offended. You don't like the comment, you ignore.

jbp··on Erlang creator on how to get started and learning to program
Your tutorial works for some one already familiar with programming but not with Python. It may work for the originator of that thread.

But LPTHW is more along the lines of Joe's advice: >> Then buy a decent book and type in the programs by hand. >> One at a time thinking as you go.

LPTHW does exactly that. Actually typing the programs has magic to it.

jbp··on Erlang creator on how to get started and learning to program
That's the approach Zed's LPTHW (http://learnpythonthehardway.org/) takes.
