jb1991··on Sperm Whales blow bubbles to achieve restful, vertical sleep
I know, I was also not being serious.
jb1991··on Sperm Whales blow bubbles to achieve restful, vertical sleep
This is an interesting theory but it’s not at all how sperm whales eat and doesn’t fit into their dietary habits that we know of.
jb1991··on The day Steve Jobs dissed me in a keynote (2010)
Is this not a common trait among most of the high-level tech CEOs? We hear of lack of humanity across much of the tech industry when you get up to that level. All the stuff that is said about Musk, and all the others.
jb1991··on Amid Increased Scrutiny, ICE Detention and Deportation Data Goes Dark
My apologies, I assumed it was obvious that my comment was a joke.
jb1991··on Amid Increased Scrutiny, ICE Detention and Deportation Data Goes Dark
That's alright, I've been counting them myself to keep track, since I knew other sources of the data would eventually disappear. So far, eight people have been deported.
jb1991··on I'm Done with Mullvad
I see you have been triggered by this discussion and my apologies if I've contributed to it, but you ascribe qualities to me that are not true and I find your discourse unreasonable.
jb1991··on I'm Done with Mullvad
Pointing out the context for an argument and the many articles and discussions that have taken place on that subject in the news is not the same thing as participating in or taking sides in the discussion. I take offense that you have made this personal.

> I live in Sweden and have not seen this in the news

I'm genuinely surprised by this. I live in a nearby country and it is in the news every few months.

jb1991··on I'm Done with Mullvad
I find it fascinating that people in this thread are arguing against raw government crime statistics and are asking for further evidence of this problem.

Some of the other commenters here (from Sweden, it seems) are doing a better job than me at explaining the problem, so I defer to them:

I don't know what an "ethnonationalist" is but it sounds derogatory, and replacing "buddy" with what I assume is an even worse insult is not helping the discourse here.

I do not live in Sweden, but the gang violence and problems reported there are in the news and I read about it frequently. The was the point of my original post, which is that there is a context to this discussion that many probably aren't getting because they have no direct links to the society there. I think some of the other comments in this thread do a better job of underscoring this point than I am.

Sorry but this is a ridiculous request for something that has been so widely reported on over the last two years. You can search for all those news articles if you are interested. For something like this, there is no burden for me to prove anything to you.
jb1991··on I'm Done with Mullvad
First, I’m not your buddy, and that kind of condescending language doesn’t really help the discussion. Second, I assumed these issues were common knowledge since the frequent shootings in broad daylight that have rocked Sweden in the last couple of years have been from immigrant gang violence, and I mistakenly assumed everyone was aware of these news reports. But perhaps it’s only most obvious here in Europe.

There are other comments in this thread that are expressing the situation better than I am.

I did a quick search, among all of the articles are people even doing their thesis work on this problem: https://www.gu.se/sites/default/files/2025-10/The%20ripple%2...

jb1991··on Parental device use and the adolescent-caregiver attachment bond
Nope, addicted to everything else that comes with it. Hence the desire for an alternative.
jb1991··on Parental device use and the adolescent-caregiver attachment bond
Well I remember the days before the first smart phone and taking subways in New York City, so it’s not too hard for me to imagine. People reading books, talking to each other, very different.
jb1991··on Parental device use and the adolescent-caregiver attachment bond
That would be promising if it wasn’t for a ridiculous price tag. You shouldn’t have to pay a premium just to have features removed. The margin on that phone must be incredibly high.
jb1991··on Parental device use and the adolescent-caregiver attachment bond
I would love to get rid of my smartphone altogether, actually. I’m just not quite sure how to do it. I need to use a map app often. And most of the announcements and services in my country from companies and schools are all handled through WhatsApp. So it makes it a bit difficult to cut that tether.
jb1991··on Parental device use and the adolescent-caregiver attachment bond
Numerous studies have supported this thesis, that phone addiction is identical to a chemical addiction.

jb1991··on The Vespa at 80
I have to agree that the amount of pollution these things put out is really a dealbreaker in modern times, in my opinion. They really smell up a street when they go by, it’s so noticeable after having mainly electric cars and bicycles going by.
jb1991··on The firefighting system of the Van der Heyden brothers in 17th century Amsterdam
And to be more specific, he was biking home on his fatbike.
