jason46··on Announcing the Surface 3
Its stated this runs "full windows", wtf does that mean? Can it be joined to a domain?
jason46··on Introducing Google Cloud Storage Nearline
The issue is with all the 9s, is it will take 3hrs to find out there is an issue, and another 3hours to make another request? I bet dropbox could fix their shit in less time.
jason46··on [dead]
If they bring back the 10/12 cylinder engine I could care less what it looks like..
jason46··on Why we should worry about domestic drones and how to bring them down
The lama is a coax heli. This is the heli in the article with training gear. http://www.xheli.com/2blhokirtf.html
jason46··on Why we should worry about domestic drones and how to bring them down
Really, the Honeybee helicopter is an Air Force drone?? I had one of those 4-5 years ago and was lucky to keep it in the air for 30 seconds. Its the heli in the article with a purple tailboom and training-gear.

I was eating somewhere that had CNN on TV and they were discussing the use of rockets to take out civilian drones. Not which part of that scenario is more dangerous.

I'm not sure this is sensationalism with amazing ignorance or are people really this dumb and crazy(I usually avoid mainstream news).

jason46··on Firefox Hello
Anybody see a way to change the camera?
jason46··on Firefox Hello
So this link is useful for new users. I had no idea how to open it. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/where-firefox-hello-but...

Next issue, I'm using a docked laptop and it defaulted to the cam in the folded laptop instead of the cam pointed at me..

jason46··on Vivaldi – A new browser for our friends
As an old fan of Opera I'm starting to like v27. Sure I can't use it for torrents or mail, but the new bookmarks are neat.
jason46··on Hands-On with Microsoft's New Holographic Goggles
MS just has to purchase that company and say they just made the next generation, problem solved.
jason46··on Sky to block pornography by default
If I were in this situation in my area, I would have to go get it enabled, no broadband options here.
jason46··on Sky to block pornography by default
I'm curious if users of this ISP have alternatives?

If one wanted to view porn, and did not want to deal with getting it "enabled", would it be possible to switch to another ISP?

jason46··on Update on Sony Investigation
So Sony leaked all their guts, but this movie?
jason46··on Update on Sony Investigation
Seems like there would be substantial traffic logs if 100TB+ of data flowed from Sony to NK, right? Surely the NSA would have seen this traffic, why was Sony not informed of this? Also nobody at Sony noticed suspicious persistent connections to their gateway? Seems if it was not an inside the job the "hackers" must of had access for months to a year to gather that amount of data. I haven't gone looking, but I have doubts the movie in question even existed if there are not copies running rampant on the net. Yes I agree too much of what we're being told does not make sense.
jason46··on Sony Got Hacked Hard: What We Know and Don't Know So Far
100TB? Seems more likely nobody noticed a team carrying out some thirty-five 3TB external drives. If their network was able to maintain operations while somebody sucked out 100TB of data through their gateway, I'm impressed.
jason46··on Handbrake 0.10.0 released
It has a gui with presets I thought was straightforward and a good cli that can be used with batch files. For free software I think it does a good job, if you want to split hairs the contrast in very dark scenes gets "blotchy".
jason46··on Facebook's New Data Center Is Bad News for Cisco
Perhaps the company is poorly managed, but I can't see any company "replacing" cisco, especially in the light this article presents, show me where I can buy a google switch.
jason46··on Foobar
Is it interesting this is in class "decoded"?
jason46··on State of Linux Gaming
I think witcher2 is a good example of how good gaming can be on linux, I had very good frame rates and the game looks amazing. I was playing this with an nvidia card using nvidia drivers. But as the article points out, we are at the mercy of the developers supporting OpenGl which there is apparently not a large motivation to do so.
jason46··on Ask HN: Your recommendations for Windows PC backup software solutions?
+1 Robocopy script with external drive.
jason46··on Google StreetView using camels to travel Arabian desert
Google should trade the Camel for a tank, the biggest tank they can find.
jason46··on A Supersecret Spacecraft Comes Back to Earth After Two Years
This thing must have info on the MH370 flight.
