So why is it so many programs support/recommend Ubuntu rather than generic Linux? Is it primarily the testing environment that the devs use and the packaging formats the different distros use? I ask because I’m deciding between fedora and some Ubuntu flavour for my next OS and have used Ubuntu for the last 2 years
Blizzard is really committing to these blunders. I have a lan coming up and collectively we’ve decided to not play any blizzard titles in the foreseeable future.
I watched a documentary once that described how corporations will hire people to eat Subway in public places or to talk loudly about things as a form of marketing. It’s profoundly dishonest
I suppose that the encryption is relevant no matter where you operate from. Does that protect metadata? I assume that all they can learn is that person X is visiting a site that uses your service, which is pretty unhelpful for spooks. In that case, the main security or privacy concern probably revolves around government data requests and/or data center security
The “Free as in Freedom” podcast, with Sandler and Kuhn, restarted this year. It hasn’t had an episode in a few months however. I wonder if they will do an episode on this

As somebody who avoids the news except during elections, what the heck is going on? Turkey and Russia is invading Syria? The USA pulled out suddenly? I’ve missed a lot
I don’t believe cable tv, for how locked down and awful it is/was, ever went so far as to try and limit any spending outside their own platforms. Perhaps it was a lack of innovation, but the internet and the world of software licensing is gross by comparison
> If you set up a circumstance where there's no relationship between the button and the light, depressed patients might be able to better pick that out, because that set of circumstances happens to conform to their somewhat biased view of the universe, that bad things happen for no reason," Moore explains. "That doesn't necessarily mean that they're more accurate broadly, but under that very narrow set of stimulus conditions, they come out looking more accurate.
People say google has good engineers, and that their systems have few bugs. However, their algorithmic bugs routinely de-platform people and often seem to take away people’s incomes (eg, the AdWords people losing accounts every other day). To me, that sounds like one of the most severe types of bugs possible and the Internet is rife with these stories
Not sure why the downvotes. Canadian companies are not into paying people very well, instead we get news stories about massive outsourcing to India followed by security breaches a few years later (eg, see the news over the last year or two about almost every single one of our major banks)
