jamestanderson··on First U.S. Bitcoin Exchange Set to Open
An easy way to get around the paywall is to search for this headline on Google and click a link from the results.
jamestanderson··on Tim Cook Speaks Up
I think that's a very real future, and speaking out in this way only helps to make that a reality sooner.
jamestanderson··on Material Design Icons
This is undoubtedly a ploy to entice developers into using their icons everywhere, so Google can subliminally convey its secret message to take over the world.
jamestanderson··on Checkr (YC S14) raises $9M to provide an API for background checks
Having trouble finding the federal government's API.. Anyone have any info?
jamestanderson··on 40,000 suicides annually, yet America simply shrugs
But if your choices are because you suffer from a mental illness such as depression, should we as a society just "shrug" and say "Well, it's their choice, let them do whatever they want." ?

I don't think so - especially when a lot of times, due to their illness, they cannot make their own choice.

jamestanderson··on Mailgun forwarding can result in your domain being treated as spam
Firstly, thank you for responding.

I've also been affected by this. Any course of action that I could take? I've been using the forwarding feature for a while, my setup is simply Cloudflare DNS -> Mailgun -> Gmail. Would be happy to provide my domain name if you need it!

jamestanderson··on Show HN: Free Survey Creator
This is really nice. I went ahead and made a survey (easy process!) but once I received my embed code I was surprised. The script generated when I made my survey is named in a very predictable, incrementing format. I looked at a few others' surveys by changing the #.js in my embed code.

There needs to be some kind of protection to at least keep people guessing numbers, because I don't want people embedding my survey on their site and interfering with my results.

jamestanderson··on Ajenti – Web admin panel
Looks like the project has improved immensely since I checked this out last year. Love the new look! I'll be reinstalling.
jamestanderson··on User Onboarding
This is getting really nitpicky, but it's below "the fold." So it might as well not be there for some users.

But getting people to buy the book might not be the primary goal of the website, or the home page. It's probably to show off the reviews and teardowns, which it does a great job of. I think it's perfectly acceptable to have the secondary purpose of the site, buying the book, a bit out of the way.

jamestanderson··on Exec($_GET
This shows, in a very public way, a bunch of instances where code explicitly allows for arbitrary code execution (a security no-no.)
jamestanderson··on Evil.js: A JavaScript library for thwarting hot-linkers
From the github page: http://kitcambridge.be/evil.js/
jamestanderson··on DRM Coffee
My dentist has always recommended electric over regular toothbrushes.
jamestanderson··on Reddit to Give 10% of Its 2014 Ad Revenue to Non-Profits Picked by Its Users
>Very not happy I'm not an investor in that company

So you want to be an investor now?

jamestanderson··on TCP HTTP Server written in Assembly
It could mean proof of concept.
jamestanderson··on A society of phone zombies
I think you and the article raise some good points. I guess I'm vain enough to think that when I take someone out to lunch I expect at least the majority of their attention. I won't fault them for replying to a text. But if you're browsing Twitter/Facebook/whatever while I'm trying to have a conversation with you, I'd naturally be annoyed as I think anyone would. Wouldn't you? I'm surprised that the older gentleman would say something, though.
jamestanderson··on 'Tor Stinks' presentation – read the full document
Yeah, is this real?
jamestanderson··on Show HN: Felt – Personal, handwritten cards mailed from your iPad
I love the idea, and great execution too! Just one thing - the domain, feltapp.com, sorta sounds like "felt up." I think that's pretty funny.
jamestanderson··on My first Mac App - a distraction-free note taking app
Yes.
jamestanderson··on Never get another marketing email again
The false positives this would generate, in my opinion, outweigh any benefit of having such a filter. I'd rather manually unsubscribe from marketing emails, since, as the author says, the "unsubscribe" functionality is so prevalent.
