jaffa2··on Auraphone: A simple app to collect people's info at events
I really don't understand this. I've got to fiddle with my phone, and use this app? And presumably the other person also needs this app? This would never work at any trade shows I've been to. QR codes work better for this thing (sharing details quickly with least friction)
jaffa2··on uBlock Origin Lite in Apple App Store
all those things work perfectly for me in the browser . Occasioally if you double tap too fast it doesn't like it. but 2x speed, subs. toggling, dbl taps. all work great in safari on ios. I often have 2 or 3 videos that i watch over the course of a few days. I just leave them in tabs and come back to them as i get time. can't do that with the app.
jaffa2··on Dillo, a multi-platform graphical web browser
That is cool though. was it an atx system with the power triggered some how?
jaffa2··on Dillo, a multi-platform graphical web browser
Hmm am I missing something? I wanted to download this either for Windows or Mac but I can't find the download link anywhere. It looks Linux only, but the title of this post says Multi-platform.

Make it easier for people to download this please. I clicked releases on the hoem page and i get a zip file with a whole bunch of stuff a file named Dillo.Desktop which double clicking tries to open in Gimp and then does nothing. On github it's the same.

jaffa2··on uBlock Origin Lite in Apple App Store
How so? I also use adguard and yt on browser in ios works brilliantly.
jaffa2··on I've been loving Claude Code on the web
Im still learning. All i know is claude.ai website chat. I thought claude code was a different thing. Not sure what codex is yet. Ive been using gemini assist in vscode for a week now, its kinda like just using it on the web but of course it edits your for you. Sometimes it ‘cant apply the changes though’
jaffa2··on I've been loving Claude Code on the web
Any good demos of what claude code can do?
jaffa2··on The Lotus Evija's mad torque tech is the holy grail of EV engineering
Unless I’m missing something, the article also seemed to end before it got started. There is zero detail in here.
jaffa2··on The Unknotting Number Is Not Additive
Theres always an xkcd : https://xkcd.com/435/
jaffa2··on Show HN: Write It Down – Personal finance tracker
I will never us it if I have to pay. Its not clear what this gets me over any other spreadsheet .
jaffa2··on Yt-dlp: Upcoming new requirements for YouTube downloads
on iphone, if you use youtube in the browser in stead of the app (as you should), then you can do background listening if you play the video, lock the phone, unlock the phone, play th video again, lock the phone, unlock the phone, resume play with the media controls, lock the phone.
jaffa2··on History of the Gem Desktop Environment
Great pictures do you have a resource for more like these?
jaffa2··on iFixit iPhone Air teardown
Well lucky for you Apple have actually brought out an even thicker phone, with and even bigger and longer lasting battery. Its named the iphone 17 pro and iphone 17pro max.

The air is not for you.

jaffa2··on The Size of Adobe Reader Installers Through the Years
I would guess that it gets bigger in only one dimension
jaffa2··on Fractal drum machine plays any beat [video]
I watched the video but i still don’t get it.
jaffa2··on Home Depot sued for 'secretly' using facial recognition at self-checkouts
you have to put the item on the scale before it lets yo uscan the next item. So you can scan the same item twice if you scan it once, put the other item on the scale, and scan the item again.
jaffa2··on Volkswagen locks horsepower behind paid subscription
Tesla already does this. Why no kickback there?
jaffa2··on So what's the difference between plotted and printed artwork?
Great article. I’ve only ever came across plotters used for tech drawings cad cam archtecture but i hadnt considered them applied to artistic output. Well done makes me want one now.
jaffa2··on Windows XP Professional
I must be a freak then because one of the first tweaks I do to any Windows install since possibly Win98 days is to set menu delay to 0ms. I like the snappy precise feel and have no problems not taking shortcuts across menu items.
jaffa2··on uBlock Origin Lite now available for Safari
i've also been using adguard for years. Yes it's paid, but it actually works. I use it on mac and ios. none of the free( at the time) ad blockers worked as well. or they constantly needed updates, or certain things broke etc. adguard is a great product. not affiliated, not sponsored, just a user.
jaffa2··on Show HN: I built a tool to solve window management
The problem i have with this kind of thing is that i very often want to reference something in browser while using my editor or similar so have ing them on different desktops is really inefficient.
jaffa2··on Use Plaintext Email (2019)
Mailmate on macos solves this very nicely. As a bonus my html mails have never looked better and i get the bonus of writing in text using markdown . Currently evaluating it.
jaffa2··on Resurrecting flip phone typing as a Linux driver
you make the point very well! You can still remember, what, 20 years later ?

On the nokia you'd press the button and it would cycle through the options. Once you knew all the words you could type really very fast indeed, and blind.

Someone asked about custom words below. You could definitely add custom words. I think you had to switch out of T9, key the word the old way and then switch back then 'add' to dictionary, but once in it would stay in the dictionary. I'm sure the amount of memory for custom words was quoted in marketing material at somepoint.

jaffa2··on Resurrecting flip phone typing as a Linux driver
Huh?

The great thing about T9 (certainly on the Nokia 3210 and 8210) back in the day was you could type messages fast with few k/s without looking. As long as you had enough experience to know the word combos.

Ive never found a t9 system as good as the Nokia implementation. In some respects its better than qwerty for short messages. And don’t get me started on apples fundamentally broken auto correct system. People dont know any better these days. There’s actual adults walking today that have never typed on a real keyboard.

jaffa2··on Apple Notes Will Gain Markdown Export at WWDC, and, I Have Thoughts
No. Notes fails on many basic things, this is just one example.
jaffa2··on Show HN: Whenish – Plan Group Events in iMessages
Uh huh. You don’t buy an iphone to use this app. You use this app on an iphone you already have. I think his goal was to be able to organise meetings with his iPhone friends , not encourage mass iPhone adoption ownership.
jaffa2··on Anylinuxfs – macOS mount any Linux filesystem read/write using NFS and a microVM
This is really good. Better than any other solution I’ve seen.
jaffa2··on Ask HN: What are good high-information density UIs (screenshots, apps, sites)?
Great post very interesting thanks
jaffa2··on Ask HN: Share your AI prompt that stumps every model
I never heard of this phrase before ( i had heard the concept , i think this is similar to the paperclip problem) but now in 2 days ive heard it twice here and on youtube. Rokokos basilisk.
jaffa2··on How much oranger do red orange bags make oranges look?
Am i mossing something or is this really a blog post saying that if you put something red in a picture and compare it to the same thing without red, then the picture with more red, looks, well, more red?
