And with the magic of compartmentalization, both kinds of people can work together to create a horrible organization that does all kinds of evil around the world.

To be clear I love to see funding going towards science. But 10,000 years is too damn much. People are placing chronologically the technological singularity within the next 100-200 years. For all practical purposes, 10,000 years ahead it's simply a different universe for me.

How can one care about what will happen within the next 10,000 years?

Wrong, the Bitcoin blockchain has many uses. For example: http://proofofexistence.com/

If a hammer is so useful, why don't everyone use it every day?

So, they are holding Bitcoin.

Are you going to disclose too that Bitcoin went up 300% since last year? Or you prefer to cherry-pick a shorter time period to make it fit your narrative?

I'm just letting him know that the thing he envisions for the future already exists. We just have to convince browser vendors to embrace it.

Are we really discussing whether someone should be held accountable for the actions of others?

Like, I create an account for you without your knowledge and I send you to jail? Sounds like a useful app, but scary in the wrong hands.

"you can't expect to avoid consequences because you were operating without a knowledge of the law"

Are you serious? I can't expect to avoid consequences for the crazy laws that get passed in other countries?

I won't stand in front of any judges of your backwards country, I have enough with my own.

Who said anything about ethics? Corporations accepting Bitcoin is evidence of its usefulness.

And by the logic you guys are espousing, then e-commerces don't accept any currency that isn't the one their government forces them to use either, because they do it through intermediaries like Visa.

What if upvoting your comments was also made illegal in your country? Should we somehow guess that and stop?

Overstock holds Bitcoin, and its CEO is a big fan of it.

As someone who lives in Argentina, Bitcoin is extremely useful. I have a smartphone, but banks don't really want me. Not that I could benefit much from them anyway, since I'm not even allowed to make international wires, and I can't legally buy US dollars either to escape the 30% inflation we suffer here.

It's crazy to see how much time you, a UK citizen who finds Bitcoin only useful for buying illegal drugs (by your own words), invest in attacking Bitcoin. I thought your limit was Reddit, but now I see you are also spending time on other sites like HN under the same name doing the same thing almost as a full-time job. No wonder some people think there is a paid smear campaign going on against Bitcoin.

You could own bigian.bit using Namecoin I think, and use it for everything else (like your email).
jafaku··on Where Did Time Come From, and Why Does It Seem to Flow?
Aren't these fields thought to be even smaller particles? Like the hypothetical graviton. So everything could be made of particles, even forces like gravity.
jafaku··on Where Did Time Come From, and Why Does It Seem to Flow?
That was a great reading, thanks.
jafaku··on Calories in, calories out
> I'm guessing the negative comment was due to a jocks vs. nerds cultural thing

Oh, yeah that happened to me a few times in the past, but more explicitly. The funny thing is my main activity is actually devops.

> daily fork lifts

LOL

jafaku··on Calories in, calories out
I'm not a native speaker. Is it a vulgar word? Didn't seem like that to me. And I didn't know people looking to lose weight wanted to do so specifically without gaining any muscle. My advice wasn't to become a body builder, just a healthy person.
jafaku··on Calories in, calories out
I have never been fat but as a sports guy I have read a lot about the subject and I'm pretty sure the best first step (as opposed to running, not as opposed to controlling your calories) is to start lifting weights if you are a guy. The more muscle you have, the more calories you will burn passively (at rest). And once you are done losing weight you will be ripped. It's like what people do in a bulk + cut cycle, but skipping the bulk phase.
jafaku··on Show HN: RemoteCoder.io – A jobsite for remote programmers
You should rebrand it into GithubCoder then, because that's what it is. I for one only use Bitbucket.
jafaku··on Show HN: Maim – A simple screenshot utility for Linux
I remember I tried Screencloud years ago and didn't like it. Unfortunately I don't remember why, but knowing myself it probably was a privacy issue. Shutter does everything right IMO and I'm still using it.

jafaku··on Gavin Andresen, the Most Powerful Person in the World of Bitcoin
> Peter Todd, a developer who has contributed to the Bitcoin project, says Andresen seems in more of a hurry than others involved with the project to tweak Nakamoto’s design

Peter Troll. The guy never gets tired of derailing discussions and slowing down all development on github issues. It's always about bringing completely unrelated technical or economical issues, for the sake of saying "look I'm smart!". He also loves to imagine conspiracies, like the block size issue (Nakamoto didn't want to keep it at 1MB forever, but Peter says he says he did and even created a website just for that :s). And he is always accepting donations of course, and contracts with altcoins (they get the press -useful for a quick pump/dump-, he gets the money).

jafaku··on Bitcoin August 14 Flash Crash
Not really. From this and your other comments it's now clear that not only you don't know anything about private stock, you don't anything about Bitcoin's history either.
jafaku··on Bitcoin August 14 Flash Crash
> Care to quote a startup stock that is traded decently (Bitcoin isn't a penny stock) and has a 10% dip in minutes that isn't newsworthy for anyone interested in that stock?

"traded decently", gotta love those vague expressions.

Any company that at some point was just a small startup, sold stock privately, and today is big, has had these swings. Eg: Facebook, Amazon, etc.

If you don't know this, it probably means you have never bought private stock.
