jackmoore··on Introducing smap.js, a forward polyfill for ES6 Maps
Yes, stuff like this shouldn't be in the source. UglifyJS and Closure compiler make this optimization, but I've used other js minifiers that did not.
jackmoore··on IE8 falls below 25% market share, Firefox 15 passes 10% mark, Chrome loses users
Analytics for a site I run (mainly dealing with web-dev) has Chrome usage growing at a steady rate. For the past 6 months, Chrome has gained about 1% market share a month (out of ~160,000 visits a month).
jackmoore··on Fresco - A Beautiful Responsive Lightbox
I'm colorbox's author, and just wanted to say thanks for the recommendation.
jackmoore··on Apache webserver updated to ignore Do Not Track settings in IE 10
DNT breaks down if advertisers don't participate. As long as it's not a law, what are the chances they will respect DNT if it's opt-out rather than opt-in?
jackmoore··on Yes, I was hacked. Hard.
I suppose you could attempt to log in while omitting the last character of your password to test against truncating.
jackmoore··on Whoa: It's 2012, and the World's Most Popular Email Service Is ... Hotmail
I guess I'm the only one that gets spam with Gmail. I receive about 15,000 spam a month of which 10-20 a day get through. Unfortunately my email address is in the JavaScript of a lot of websites due to a plugin I authored.
jackmoore··on Heroku down?
Their current status is that they are investigating issues with their infrastructure provider: https://status.heroku.com/
jackmoore··on Heroku down?
My apps are down, and so is the heroku.com homepage.
jackmoore··on AngularJS 1.0 released
The github repository seems to have a lot of open issues for a 1.0 release: https://github.com/angular/angular.js/issues
jackmoore··on Anonymous Austria leaks 2.8 GB Scientology Emails
Why would it? Are you confusing Scientology with Mormonism and Austria with America?
jackmoore··on Conservation Drones
These would be great for hunting rhinos.
jackmoore··on Z-Type: Shoot to Type (Try the Expert Mode)
Should use a monospace font.
jackmoore··on Stop Paying Your jQuery Tax
This is clever. However, it depends on scripts using the shorthand notation for jQuery's ready method. Maybe it would be better form to use something explicit instead rather than doubling up $ operator.
jackmoore··on Maxing out your Dropbox referrals (how I got 16GB for less than $10)

jackmoore··on Introducing Aurora 9
The world would be better with this left unimplemented.
jackmoore··on $25 PC alpha board successfully runs Linux
The word you are fishing for is 'identity' or 'corporate identity'. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corporate_identity
jackmoore··on Alternatives to GoDaddy
I'm sure this is common practice, but I don't like that Tucows (Hover) is squating 200k premium domains and auctioning expiring domains. I have too much disdain for cyber squatters to respect Hover as a registrar.

jackmoore··on Soduko in HTML5
> The name sucked, so the Japs changed it to "Sudoku"

I would reconsider your wording here as "Japs" might be seen as derogatory.

jackmoore··on Rolling Your Own Grid Layouts on the Fly Without a Framework
> I also threw a “last” class on the last column to help us clear the margin.

FYI, excluding IE6, :first-child pseudo-class is universally supported. That would be a cleaner way to handle this rather than manually adding a class to the markup.

jackmoore··on This blogger.com profile is squatting YC founder's names
Some cyber squatter has my fistnamelastname.com, and several thousand others (including celebs and typo-based domains). I contacted him about and he made it clear that he was looking for something in the 10k-250k range. I offered $500 and got no response. A non-commercial domain shouldn't command that kind of price, but the cost of sitting on it just isn't high enough to discourage squatters from doing it and waiting for the occasional big payout.

Edit: the squatters name is David Webb in case anyone else has had to deal with him.

jackmoore··on Turn off the clock on your menu bar
How did you remove the title from GMail so that only the favicon displays?
jackmoore··on A re-introduction to JavaScript
I also think it should discourage modifying built-in objects. Unlike their for loop, the following line comes with no warning or disclaimer: "Interestingly, you can also add things to the prototype of built-in JavaScript objects."
jackmoore··on Google JavaScript style guidelines
There is nothing wrong with extending the prototypes of objects, as long as they are objects you own. Don't modify what you don't own is sound advice that applies to many things. I wish they went into detail on what the problem is with multi-level prototype hierarchies.
jackmoore··on A re-introduction to JavaScript
My only qualm is that it gives advice on how to use arguments.callee, which was depreciated in ECMAScript 5, for recursive anonymous functions.

Since they already give an example of how to use a named function recursively, the arguments.callee example could just simply be removed.

jackmoore··on A re-introduction to JavaScript
Agreed. But what is the point of declaring the item variable? Wouldn't "for (var i = 0; a[i]; i++)" mean the same thing, but more concise?
jackmoore··on Ralph Nader: Only the Super-Rich Can Save Us
He's talking about the book in this one as well. I made it about halfway through and there wasn't much more to it than a pitch for the book. He recited some common quoted statistics (top 1% have as much wealth as the bottom 95%), and suggested that the solution is for the willing super-rich to pour a substantial amount of donated capital into progressive causes.
jackmoore··on The real reason why Steve Jobs hates Flash
If it isn't profitable they are doing something horribly wrong.
jackmoore··on CNN Fails to Stop Fall in Ratings
CNN is the perfect home for nonthinking individuals. They are in full-blown groupthink constantly reaching out to the bloggers and twitter and the guy on the street and begging the viewer for their emails/tweets/input. I know I've personally stopped watching CNN exactly because I desire news, not uninformed opinion.
jackmoore··on Google Acquires Aardvark For $50 million
Ok, Michael Steele
jackmoore··on I made $622,322.96 in 2009 from affiliate marketing.
That seems to be the case with this guy as well. "richoffyou: Google wouldn't be where it is today without people like me feeding its revenue. Google = value." Delusional.
