j16sdiz··on Dirty Frag: Universal Linux LPE
Well.. every new vulnerability is one nobody did find it before.

Otherwise, it won't be classified as "new"

--

Edit:

I think LLM is very useful here.

When a researcher spot something funny, instead of spending two days on reading and testing, he can fire up a LLM and have it read all the code lead to there in ~30 minutes.

It's not the same for an individual choice vs government choice.

Individual different is real. Law of large number is true only for large number. Until you can claim omniscience, I don't think we should make an individual responsible for a "statistical" crime for one individual.

Government policy, on the other hand, ...

Your answer don't make sense.

Hot air is lighter. Gravity help hot air go up, not down.

j16sdiz··on The bottleneck was never the code
(not related to the article)

The flashing red dot on the web page is very annoying. Is there some design reason for that?

edit: I meant the <svg> inside `trail-map-container`

A slot machine isn't snake oil.

Slot machine give you rewards when star aligns, snake oil never do :)

j16sdiz··on Lessons for Agentic Coding: What should we do when code is cheap?
Kind of like credit card.

Every american learns how to live with debt :)

j16sdiz··on Async Rust never left the MVP state
What you want is quite the opposite of what rust is -- rust force rules.

Look at how the borrow works. Most of the time, the compiler can _suggest_ the fix.. and instead of fixing that silently, they want you to fix it.

This is the design choice they made.

j16sdiz··on Why does it take so long to release black fan versions?
If you need that kind of precision, yes.

But I don't think they really need that.

j16sdiz··on For Linux kernel vulnerabilities, there is no heads-up to distributions
From TFA:

> Note that for Linux kernel vulnerabilities, unless the reporter chooses > to bring it to the linux-distros ML, there is no heads-up to > distributions.

so, no, `linux-distros` list don't solve the problem.

It won't tell you the _quality_

It just tell you want the e-marker said.

The way China building new reactor is not typical.

Most of the countries builds _one_ type of reactor, or a group of similar type of reactor. This help reduce the cost of training and certification.

China, otoh, tries to _diversify_ their reactor type.

If you look closely on how China treat techs, they have been doing the same for all tech for past 15+ years. They are strategically growing their tech profile.

j16sdiz··on U.S. Debt Tops 100% of GDP
"debt" here is government debt -- federal debt to be precise.

"GDP" is just a measurement of economic activity. It is not a measurement of income. It is not government income. It is not even government cash flow.

j16sdiz··on Before GitHub
back in the day, I work in a web hosting company.

I know every name on mysql devel team.

The only reason i subscribe that mail list is: i reported some bugs and need to follows the release.

Signal to noise ratio on those mailing list was high. I can't say the same for github or discord

j16sdiz··on “Why not just use Lean?”
> They care about if it’s true.

Not always.

If it is NOT true, they sometimes simply play "what if" and construct a new system where it could be true.

I am more concern with how they make scam much less detectable.

You can hyper-target your ad or scam to vulnerable individual.

Unlike traditional media, like newspaper, you can post an ad with no visibility outside your target group -- which is hard to discover.

The report button is just some generic "second look" and automation within the same organization, there are no oversight.

mDNS is quite fragile.

j16sdiz··on Why is IPv6 so complicated?
When it fail, you find there is no option to tune its behaviour.

Plug in a rough router and see quickly you can find it.

j16sdiz··on Why is IPv6 so complicated?
ULA give more trouble than what it solves.

Almost all computer have multiple interface (virtual or not). Application now need to know which interface the destination is on, and there is no easy data structure to store the interface
