They don't care.

Support call center is operation cost. They did they math and think this will save them more money than losing a few angry or disappointed customer.

but.. they can iterate real quick!

As long as the expert don't run of patience, he may be able to do that.

Consider finance sector -- the industry is powered by excel spreadsheets made by non-programmer having no clue how programming works.

DNSSEC is the weakest link here.

It is too fragile (multiple point of failure). It is high volume (=it need be cacheable).

Puting authentication cert in dns sounds good in theory, but we have never get that reliability

I won't call it "opinionated about how to use the language correctly."

Space is valid and it compile, Tab don't --- that's it.

When one say "opinionated about how to use the language correctly", I would think JavaScript with or without end of statement semicolon and being yell at even when your program works.

j16sdiz··on Uv is fantastic, but its package management UX is a mess
No.

I have look it up years ago, and I don't remember all combination of `=` vs `^` vs `~` across all languages and package managers

How Jury in USA work is: Judge ask a question, Jury tell the count what they found the "fact" is, based on what is presented in court.

They just can't "found" something when they are not asked. If you tell the count you found something because you saw something outside the court, that would consider invalid.

j16sdiz··on Elon Musk has lost his lawsuit against Sam Altman and OpenAI
I am saying the rule in court won't allow that.

The problem is: As a jury, you can't answer the question you ain't asked.

In this case, they jury was instructed to answer a YES/NO question. They can say YES/NO or (sometimes, can't decide). They just can't answer something else. If they do, that is either disregarded, or consider the jury misunderstood the instruction.

You just don't understand how the jury system works.

> If I had been on the jury, I would have found ...

No, you wouldn't.

The case was thrown out of court before you have any chance to comment or decide on that.

Jury don't randomly "found" something. The court ask questions, the Jury answers those.

Tooling ?

It takes years for bzip2 be in every Linux Distro, and we _still_ doing gzip.

LZMA / xz tool are start to get more support, but they are nowhere near universal.

No idea when how long zstd will need.

- if the video is real (not AI / edited / another event)

- if the subject the same person (twins, look alike, too bury to tell)

j16sdiz··on Where Are the Vibecoded Photoshops?
--

recently, I tried to make AI write Long Form Novel.

The first problem I see is, AI have no idea what is important.

Teaching them when and where to use active voice/passive voice, who needs to be the subject, when to change the focus is just impossible. They love to add comparison and contrast on something least important. They love to use long list of adjective, which is unrelated to the context in current story chapter, just because those adjective are in my character file.

Understanding which problem is important in when and why is something hard.

I think same problem would appear in larger computer programs.

j16sdiz··on Where Are the Vibecoded Photoshops?
I think AI will do, like, 90% of them in 10 years. With the last 10% takes much longer (15? 20?).

I am upset with the fact that we are accumulating code debit faster than ever. In the most optimistic view, we could pay off those debit in around 10+ years (assume somebody care pay the money to buy token to clean up those).

That meant we need to suffer 10+ years of low quality code and software.

The problem with qmail is, everybody use a fork. No body use the real thing.

The official release is not standard compliance. It does not support anything modern spam filter need. It don't get new updates or features. It have funny license.

You can use a fork... but I need to ask: which fork?

I looked up other paper from the same author.

Looks like he mostly publish something about "social behavior".

This "paper", IMO, is just saying "Hey, I notice this is happening. This is why it could be interesting for social science researchers" with without any real research or result.
