iwebdevfromhome··on Moving a macOS window by clicking anywhere on it
I use the kinda hidden three finger dragging gesture that you can activate like this:

1. Choose Apple menu  > System Preferences, then click Accessibility. 2. Select Pointer Control in the sidebar. (In earlier versions of macOS, select Mouse & Trackpad.) 3. Click the Trackpad Options button. 4. Select ”Enable dragging,” then choose ”three finger drag” from the menu. 5. Click OK.

iwebdevfromhome··on What are your most used self-hosted applications?
TIL! With those specs it might even be possible to run a k8s cluster
iwebdevfromhome··on Ask HN: What are your favorite examples of elegant software?
The things app https://culturedcode.com/things/ , even though it's just an elegant TODO app something drove me to buy the iPhone and Mac versions.

Some time ago I spent a good amount of time looking for a development stack that allowed me to just build stuff. I ended up trying and deciding on Laravel Jetstream with InertiaJS https://jetstream.laravel.com/2.x/stacks/inertia.html. Laravel was easy enough already to just pick and do things, now this solves the backend+frontend projects for me by allowing me to just put vuejs components on top of my laravel app and jetbrains already comes with Auth stuff setup solved.

iwebdevfromhome··on A web app to generate valid QR codes with readable images
I tried generating a QR code with an image and it didn't work at first, I had to adjust the bit size for it to work. I then tried another image and it required me to have a bigger bit size for the camera phone camera to correctly detect it.
iwebdevfromhome··on From Node to Ruby on Rails
Django unicorn [0] looks like an interest concept too, similar to the htmx approach.

iwebdevfromhome··on Two lines of CSS that will improve HN on mobile (IMO)
I love Apollo! It’s the definitive Reddit experience for me.

Do you know if HN or any third party provides an API so that devs can play around building mobile interfaces ?

iwebdevfromhome··on Ask HN: What's your current favorite programming font?
That is a great resource! Thanks for sharing. I was looking for a website that helped me compare two different fonts but this works too.
iwebdevfromhome··on Realtime Postgres Row Level Security
When I think of postgrest, supabase and other tools that allows you skip the backend completely and go straight to the DB; is how do you handle business logic that doesn't make sense to have in either the frontend or the DB ?
iwebdevfromhome··on Ask HN: Modern Alternatives to Spas
I've seen this trend resurfacing recently, like htmx. Thanks for sharing I'll check that one out
iwebdevfromhome··on Data detectives spotted fake numbers in a widely cited paper
Data detectives sounds like a great job, how do I become one ?
iwebdevfromhome··on Ask HN: What Are You Learning?
Gamedev! Last year I tried Godot and really liked what I was learning but felt like something was missing from the community or product, I wasn't really sure what. I tried Game Maker Studio 2 this year and was fascinated with how easier it was to create a prototype real quick. So I might stick with GMS2 for now.

I hope that I can meet an artist some day and participate in a game jam.

iwebdevfromhome··on Developing Games on Linux: An Interview with Little Red Dog Games
They don’t have support to export to consoles afaik but for a pc game it should be enough. I’ve tried some tutorials in the past with success and enjoyment but I’m in the process of learning gamedev myself
iwebdevfromhome··on Ask HN: Which tools/services have your favorite UI/UX?
Things 3 the macOS app and iPhone app has some amazing UI/UX, yeah it's a glorified todo app but one that is a joy to use.
iwebdevfromhome··on Ask HN: What are some tools / libraries you built yourself?
There was a time in my team where we were taking just too much time and derailing in our daily standups, and the manager wanted to have a way to control how much time each one of us took during our standup and leave any further discussion for the 16nth minute. I created a [DSU timer][0] for the team which we used for quite some time and it served it's purpose. We later switched to another approach for our standups. It's currently [hosted][1] on github pages.

iwebdevfromhome··on Fselect: Find files with SQL-like queries
I have a lot of files in my home directory, specially in the code folder where all my projects are, and you can imagine all the files that live in the python virtualenv and node_modules but even so the command finished execution in 45s, I think this is very impressive!
iwebdevfromhome··on Fed up with the Mac, I spent six months with a Linux laptop
Well damn, I’ve been a mac user for 6 years now and this is the first time I hear about this option haha and it was one of my main complains
iwebdevfromhome··on Show HN: Austin-Tui – Spy inside a running Python program at no performance cost
Great news, can't wait to try it on some long running reports.
iwebdevfromhome··on Show HN: Austin-Tui – Spy inside a running Python program at no performance cost
Is it possible to spy from a python script running in a virtual python 2 environment?
iwebdevfromhome··on We made an open source ESP8266 dev board for makers
Cool board! The only thing I think would be a nice-to-have is an integrated wifi module.
iwebdevfromhome··on Mexican states are moving to ban the sale of junk food to children
The title is a little misleading, this is happening in the state of Oaxaca only. I guess that if it works the government is going to try and implement it across the whole country.
iwebdevfromhome··on Simple SQL in Python
Looks like a cool idea. I wonder if I can make it to work easily with this other lovely python library https://github.com/pudo/dataset
iwebdevfromhome··on Scaling Pandas: Comparing Dask, Ray, Modin, Vaex, and Rapids
What are your thoughts on AWS Glue/Spark ? We’re starting to have problems with data frames that won’t fit into memory anymore on 32Gb clusters and upgrading to the next option, a 64Gb cluster, is an expensive thing. We plan to migrate to glue as a long term solution but I think we need to figure out a short term solution to the issue while the migration takes place.

Thanks for the article, before it I only knew of Dask as a real alternative.

P.D. I just remember that I wanted to try Pandarallel as well, so you have any insight on this library ? Thanks!

iwebdevfromhome··on Django 2.2
Symfony is a great php framework too
iwebdevfromhome··on Creating iOS 12 Shortcuts with JavaScript and Shortcuts JS
How is this different from the Scriptable app ? That uses JS to interact with siri.
iwebdevfromhome··on Vue.js vs. React
If the licensing is an issue with React, then what about Preact?
iwebdevfromhome··on Ask HN: Projects that don't make you money but you're doing it out of sheer joy?
Awesome! But looks like it's down now :(

SuperMovies Rank: https://movies.teslark.pw

Just posted this a couple of days before! Not much notice but still it was worth a try.

It's a tool to help people create their list of favorite superhero movies and share them with everyone.

It was a fun way to get myself more familiar with React

iwebdevfromhome··on Show HN: SuperMovies Rank – Rank and share your favorite superhero movies
Hi guys! Author here, I made the site using React (As a learning experience), React router, bulma.io and themoviedb.org API.

Here's the source code if anyone's curious! :)

iwebdevfromhome··on The Nintendo Switch and Gadget Design
Not fully capable, I believe it lacks some buttons ? Like the second joystick. But, if the game is designed with this in mind, then the joycons are more than functional!
iwebdevfromhome··on Sublime Text 3 Build 3132 released
I love sublime text! It's still my favorite from all the current GUI editors. But recently I've been leaning more to Atom because:

1) It's not as slow as it used to be.

2) The vim binding plugins are superior.
