ivanstegic··on The Effect of Research Universities on Student Partisanship and Turnout
I actually read through the introduction and got to about page 6 when I realized that most people making comments here aren’t even going to do that. I agree with you, it’s not hard to read this and to have an opinion. But most people won’t even bother reading the first page. Becasue, internet.

Shocked! Shocked, that this comment is being moderated down!!

People should actually read the 135 page dissertation and then leave a comment here with an opinion or an analysis. Anything short of that is meaningless critique.

i was surprised to learn maxcdn was bought up when i remembered they existed. had a good experience with them previously, and they were fast. it's sad that there are still companies that don't have a way to try a service out WITHOUT having to call someone or email someone. just give me a way to login and poke around. how hard is that?

I am OK with separating it out. It's much easier to manage for a larger number of clients though. That's why!

I need something I can pay a fair amount for, that provides DNS service and HTML and file asset acceleration. I want to switch the proxy on, let it offload as much of the traffic from the original source server as possible, and forget about it. My clients should be able to control their DNS on their own, on let us do it for them. They should only have access to their own domains.

noc.org looked great to me, then I started clicking around and all I got what raw PHP files! for example, the homepage:

<?php

$content_canonical = "https://noc.org/";

$content_ogtype = "website";

include "includes/header.php";

?>

        <!-- Mashead header-->

        <header class="masthead">

            <div class="container px-5">

                <div class="row gx-5 align-items-center">

                    <div class="col-lg-6">

                        <!-- Mashead text and app badges-->

                        <div class="mb-5 mb-lg-0 text-center text-lg-start">

oh, also: separate accounts with domains per account so my clients can access their own set of domains. I need some sort of separation of permissions.

Honestly, it's the DNS and whole HTML/File assets caching and acceleration that it provides.

I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to do that. I’ll approach it differently next time.

ivanstegic··on RMS Support Letter
It’s pretty crazy that there are still people out there who can defend RMS for his contributions but are perfectly capable of conveniently IGNORING his vile comments about women, Epstein and related accusations while spouting “bullying” and “cancel culture.”

You might be able to do this with the droplets like you said.

With DO Spaces, it’s a $5/Mo subscription to spaces. You get 250GB of storage and 1TB of transfer. Anything more costs 1c per GB transferred and 2c per GB stores. You can create as many buckets as you want.

ivanstegic··on Using Firefox for a faster, calmer and distraction-free internet
OK, so the feature I have been using in Chrome (Profiles) and that I thought I was missing in FF, won't ever exist in FF. Because, Multi-Account Containers (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/multi-account...). I guess I just needed to know that this was a thing and that it had another name. Going to try to now totally forego Chrome. Thanks for the discussion under https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=21498452 that made me realize this was a thing.
ivanstegic··on Using Firefox for a faster, calmer and distraction-free internet
Why is it that there is never any mention of Chrome’s profile switcher? It exists in FF but is so cumbersome to use that I just don’t. I spend time in both browsers but if I could use profiles easily on FF I’d just uninstall Chrome.

Don’t waste your time, the Lenovo X1 Carbons are comparable (if not better) and the keyboard is amazing! Consider it.
