itsbits··on Burnout Is Real
Experience wise I am far behind with just 12 years of programming but started feeling burnout since Covid. I was always work in office location guy even if it meant to stretch by more than 12 hours a day. But working from home is far different. Communication is worst. When in office your colleagues are next to you and meetings were like 4 hours a day. But with work from home it's very different. To get in touch with colleagues, you have to schedule a call which usually taking 3x more time than discussion at office. Also we have repeat things so many times in call since there is no proper blackboard etc. Probably it's only me but now a days calls itself takes more than 8 hours.

Really started getting respect for people who were doing remote before Covid as well. Now I also understand why OSS projects are slow in implementing features.

itsbits··on Burnout Is Real
I wish I had any other interest apart from programming...
itsbits··on Fastly Outage
we had that experience when cloudfare was down for sometime lastyear. We now setup a minor own static server as a backup, if at all this happens again. Althgh we hadn't so far had to use it.
itsbits··on GraphQL Conf. 2021
Has GraphQL cracked role based data fetching patterns? I would love to learn those patterns..
itsbits··on Amazon refused to refund $7k after shipping an empty box instead of a Sony A1
I was under impression that their return policy has some intelligence added. I mean how many items customer have returned/refunded, what are sellers saying about returned item kind of ML. After reading all the stories in comments, feel this is what Amazon should be prioritising. Already some local online stores are competing them across the globe.
itsbits··on Idiosyncrasies of the HTML Parser
check this implementation https://blogs.windows.com/msedgedev/2017/04/19/modernizing-d...

graph doesn't mean multiple parents all the time. if you have references of other nodes in current node data(not just as children) as long as you can travel across Data structure, enough to say it as graph structure.

itsbits··on Idiosyncrasies of the HTML Parser
> Huh, didn’t know that. It’s the sort of thing that makes me wonder, “hmm, was that what was happening that time all those years ago?”

I think it was always a graph. I remember reading DOM implementation years ago, where a node will have siblings references as well making it graph DS.

itsbits··on Voice Assistant for VSCode
hybrid approach should really be handy.

Don't think only voice coding for enabled, becoming standard anytime soon.

itsbits··on Show HN: I made an open-source publishing platform (with minimal JavaScript)
it would be better if you can share some login info
itsbits··on Show HN: I wrote a book about UI [pdf]
> Use labels instead of relying on placeholders

I manytimes wondered why Material UI made placeholders as mainstream in their design (https://material-ui.com/components/text-fields/#textfield). Small label that comes above when a value is set is not visible easily.

itsbits··on 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning
Wouldn't it be better if charging stations have Universal ports kind of standard?
itsbits··on Why is the Gaza Strip blurry on Google Maps?
It can be conspiracy or may be not. For example Indian cities doesn't have clear images as US cities. Sometime back, I tried finding reason for same. Apparently, Google not just use satellite images. It gets aerial images from planes as well. Obviously, Google didn't pay for aerial images of Indian cities. This can be a reason for Israel as well.
itsbits··on Verizon Sells AOL and Yahoo to Apollo for $5B
Aah..my bad..I missed that..but that was vision(advertising + publishing) of AOL CEO Tim Armstrong..he was almost successful until Verizon acquisition and later Yahoo merger.
itsbits··on Verizon Sells AOL and Yahoo to Apollo for $5B
They had good customer base initially. AOL has done so many acquisitions for like Adaptv(video advertising platform), Millenial Media(mobile advertising) etc which were pretty successful. Later ofcourse Yahoo. Failure started coz they platform integration plan didn't work as expected. Lot of talent from the acquisitions left. They still use lot of old tech setup for advertising, web platforms. In summary, they failed in making a single platform from acquisitions they had.
itsbits··on Verizon Sells AOL and Yahoo to Apollo for $5B
AOL has adtech advertisers setup with some large customer base probably 3rd or 4th to Google/Facebook. It also owns publishers like HuffPost, TechCrunch etc.
itsbits··on India’s second wave
Because no one have correct numbers to be frank. Media sometimes does act responsibly can be one of other reasons as well.

But as people pointing here, Indian govt surely not controlling all media outlets. They does manage couple though.

itsbits··on Our Funniest Front-End Bugs (2020)
I have to admit "The recurring nightmare" is no funny bug for me. It really took away nights of mine. First of all reproducing itself is a tough job locally. Added the patch of showing scroll all the time and UX designers were are not happy about that. Finally added a javascript code to put a check on that. And I hate that piece of code.

There are lot of forks exist already. Microsoft Edge itself can be said as a fork. Although at present, Edge provides opt in on privacy options, we can't rely on MS product.

Will suggest to look into another forks like

Vivaldi

Brave

SRWare Iron

I started using Brave for past couple of months and don't have much of complaints related to browsing experience.

itsbits··on Comparing Svelte and React
I have been maintaining some Svelte components. But as many of them here, my profession is in React as of now.

One of things Author didn't directly point out is about JSX. I mean you can build JSX of a component incrementally in your component code. But that's something I am missing in Svelte.

itsbits··on Google to stop selling ads based on your specific web browsing
I see most of you guys are saying that Google is doing foulplay to be unicorn of advertising. Just wanted to understand what else current technologies can replace third-party cookies? Like third-party localStorage is possible?
itsbits··on Ask HN: What are decentralized Twitter alternatives?
I don't think there is any social media platform that will remain decentralised/open. Remember Twitter or for that matter Facebook in the beginning were not moderated as much as now. Entities like Governments can end up forcing that.

Beauty about Playwright (or puppeteer) is API itself is much complete & good devx to start using for browser testing. All you need is jest kind of wrapper.
