itaifrenkel··on Security 101 for SaaS startups
I'm not familiar with it. How many startups that you know actually use it? Was it released only recently?

Also, do you know of startups that use chrome books or toshiba zero client?

Also keep in mind that laptops are used by data scientists and management

itaifrenkel··on Security 101 for SaaS startups
Mmm. I'm sure our marketing would like to know why it feels strange. Would you care to state it even if it feels obvious to you?
itaifrenkel··on Security 101 for SaaS startups

itaifrenkel··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (February 2017)
Forter | Security DevOps | Tel Aviv, Israel | Full-Time

TL;DR: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pyCCLp3-M0k

Forter is looking for a DevOps Engineer with broad experience in security to join us in the amazing challenge of combating online fraud. We are looking for an experienced DevOps who has faced security challenges such as DDoS mitigation, data breach protection and applying data access policies for almost 100 employees. We at Forter spend all day stopping online criminals from stealing, and this makes us a logical target for an attack. We’re looking for someone to lead data security compliance at Forter, taking it all the way from designing to implementing and communicating (including documentation) with management and customers. Just to clarify… we are a lean startup with flat-org engineering, and compliance means infrastructure automation, best practices and training, not a long list of policies. The Senior Security DevOps role shall evolve to take ownership on growing needs, beyond security, of Enterprise Readiness.

If you are interested, please apply https://www.forter.com/careers/senior-security-devops-engine... or email me at itai@forter.com

itaifrenkel··on A Revolutionary Approach to Treating PTSD (2014)
I've just recently performed in a psychoplayback evening for a small group of veterans with PTSD for hanuka. "Psychoplayback method uses playback theatre as the basic method that enables participants to enter a psychotherapeutic space." We obviously did not recreate scenes nor change them, as that would have been too close of an expirience. However it did allow to show them others can get a glimpse of what they are going through, and show other angles such as their family's. Not being able to understand them was a common theme. Psychiatrists included

itaifrenkel··on Turkey blocks social media again to stall protests, here’s how to access them
That's not entirely precise. There might be different freedom organizations that agree on the cause, but disagree on the methods to achieve it. If this is the case (and in many cases it is) then there is a difference.

ElasticSearch new Painless scripting language is a secure lava-like DSL language which is a superset to just logic. Although it seems to be jvm opinionated.

Woudn't an ATM that is not connected to the mainframe let you withdraw even a small amount of money?
itaifrenkel··on Open-Sourcing Yahoo's Pulsar, Pub-Sub Messaging at Scale
Could you (Kafka/pulsar) devs add more details about low latency guarantees? With an in memory solution it is easier to talk about 99.9 or even more messages below 10ms latency. Also this requires a client side push protocol (like redis subscribe). Assuming there are no slow consumers involved is there a configuration that guarantees 10-20ms latency? At what percentile?
itaifrenkel··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (September 2016)
I don't know how they bootstrapped, but startups in Israel have repeatably same problems. Good technology, not so good business leadership, and zero hr skills. It's a known issue, that founders seek help with the minute they start interviewing people and getting frustrated from the pipeline, or the candidate reactions. This company (called 'added value') is unique since it provides a precise solution to that stage in a startups life and they phase out when you get to a certain size, helping the startup hire full time hr. They deliver results, and word travels fast.
itaifrenkel··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (September 2016)
In Israel there is an HR as a service company for early stage startups, that succeeds in bring really good talent. They choose startups wisely, their employees actually work in that startup shoulder to shoulder with the developers (especially to avoid backward linkedin interaction) and they recommend good candidates that had issues in/with one company to try and fit in another. This makes everyone happy. They also have a good name so they have connections with good head hunters, friends of friends, manager's linkedin profile access.

Their main problem is that their hr specialist take a long time to train, and since stationed in good startups they might want to become a FullTime employee themselves, instead of switching to a new startup as the existing one grows too big.

itaifrenkel··on Homo Deus by Yuval Noah Harari – How data will destroy human freedom
I might be wrong, but as someone that read the original Hebrew book, I feel there is missing context for the English readers. The biggest struggle in Israel is between religion and liberalism. The Arab states around us are falling (or in high risk of falling) into Muslim paradigms, and Israel is in the midst of a similar process where Jewish rules is considered superior to democratic/liberal rules by larger part of the population. This book comes as fresh air showing the strength of science, over the laws of God - given a wide enough time perspective. It's the secular Bible if you wish, something to hang on to while more people around you believe in hatered disguised as faith.

itaifrenkel··on Paris Shootings and Explosions Kill Over 100, Police Say
It took Israel security services around 3 years, to stop most bombing and rifle attacks. They are better funded and staffed (forced conscription larger in scope than in France) and that didn't help either . Eventually a massive wall was built (ideologically neither party supported, which gave rise to opportunistic and most corrupt politicians) and as enough of the voters didnt approve with the results the army got approval for countless ground and air raids. The end result was a young generation filled with hatered torwards Israel, now finding other ways to attack.

My point is that to expect security forces to stop such attacks is reasonable up to a point. Escelation on one side builds escelation on the other and eventually its becomes an established norm. The problem Europe has is real, and difficult, tragic.

My heart is with those in Paris, France and Europe . I cannot sleep.
