iszomer··on Researchers develop ‘transparent paper’ as alternative to plastics
IIRC, SK burns spent tires as a fuel source for their cement industry.
iszomer··on My AI skeptic friends are all nuts
Imagine when the commissioned artist uses AI themselves but this goes deep down the rabbit hole of who gets the spread on potential attribution of said "work".
iszomer··on SMS 2FA is not just insecure, it's also hostile to mountain people
GV still works on BOA to an extent: general balance queries through their app or the web will go through but anything involving identity and real transactions via wire or zelle will ask for your real mobile number. Even if you do happen to visit one of their branches they will ask for confirmation through your real mobile number (landlines will obviously not work).
iszomer··on Trump announces 100% tariffs on movies ‘produced in foreign lands’
Sure, my wasted youth buying VCD's that turned out to be shitty telesync/cam rips.
iszomer··on Matrix-vector multiplication implemented in off-the-shelf DRAM for Low-Bit LLMs
I guess the more contextual nuance would be "..it runs Quake".
iszomer··on Trump announces 100% tariffs on movies ‘produced in foreign lands’
What about the context of IP content piracy between countries?
iszomer··on On Not Carrying a Camera – Cultivating memories instead of snapshots
Have you also noticed that the quality of people's handwriting is inversely proportional to the amount of time spent on these platforms?

> If you were thoughtful about economic policy and truly believed a trade war was the solution, you'd prepare ahead of time (e.g. by stockpiling things like rare earth metals that are important to your economy and likely to be impacted by retaliatory tariffs).

Somewhat disagree -- stockpiling things is exactly the consumerism mindset that we (Americans) have all taken for granted and that no one seemed to have realized the potential growth in investing and/or building _actual_ infrastructure to accommodate the massive amounts of e-waste EOL versus just shipping them in bulk abroad to places like China.

I remember a story not too long ago where the CCP instituted a policy where they formally declared via the WTO to reduce their imports of American e-waste and effectively killed that faux industry. Faux as in that the stories that followed showed that our own recycling programs were just fronts to launder money than perform actual processing -- whether it'd be from lax oversight, cross-border shipments, mislabeling of contaminants, or being complicit in schemes to inflate their recycling credits globally.

Maybe its not directly REE related but we sure could have had those industries when it is still less unfavorable than the cost-benefit ratio of spent nuclear fuel reprocessing though the irony is, we're now less reliant on uranium imports from Kazakhstan and Russia (of all places).

iszomer··on The lost secrets of Palm webOS (2014)
How are you still using it? I still have my Pixi+.
iszomer··on Xiaomi MiMo Reasoning Model
Yes.
iszomer··on Firefox tab groups are here
Not a fan of vertical tabs as truncated titles hurts my fov aesthetics. These days I will just pin the tab when I want to go back to it later but even that has it's limits too.
iszomer··on The group chats that changed America
I think if it really was the case that Trump's 2nd term appointees had been all right-leaning, the narrative that he is a _fascist dictator_ would have held more weight. But it hasn't as a sort of compromise or willingness to meet closer to the center.

Whereas inversely, a true-to-life dictator XJP whom there is no perceived dissent within his congress or at minimum ever widely publicized or disseminated. Maybe this is the ideological stability you are looking for?

iszomer··on The group chats that changed America
> If there were firmer ideological underpining to the right's platform, I'd be willing to listen.

But there isn't and will never be imo, as human behavior cannot be hard-categorized into easy to understand boxes. Just as a light example, look at the former D's that were appointed and confirmed by the current administration. Would you say they have accepted a level of the Right's conformity over their original/core beliefs?

iszomer··on The group chats that changed America
I have yet to understand what a dog whistle is in this regard but in response to quickslowdown's reply, I can only best describe 'woke' as using victimhood as the means to justify(?) their ephemeral power(?) in whatever context they deem fit? /shrug
iszomer··on Here's how to get ChatGPT to stop being an overly flattering yes man
Maybe we're on different wavelengths on this issue but practically speaking, it hasn't spilled or splattered contexts from different chat topics.. yet.
iszomer··on Here's how to get ChatGPT to stop being an overly flattering yes man
Because I would test if it's keeping its word, like periodically or spontaneously asking both whether it can _import_ the context from one chat to another or, judging the conversational flow between topics.
iszomer··on Here's how to get ChatGPT to stop being an overly flattering yes man
> personal history, your anxieties

I asked ChatGPT to isolate individual chats so as to not bleed bias across all chats which funnily enough it admitted doing so.

When I asked Grok, it said it is set as the default out of the box.

iszomer··on Deafening Silence from the Cybersecurity Industry
I think it was mentioned that state district courts cannot order the executive branch of the government to do a thing and that scotus ruled in favor of that? Will need to read more into this after work.

iszomer··on How a $2k 'Made in the USA' Phone Is Manufactured
They might, if their expectations are as simple as an on ramp to better or more stable things. It would also make sense for those who are using this method for career change.

I have a coworker who "couldn't hack it" as a paralegal and is now working in the line for server assembly. Or another coworker who came from a major daytrading firm to work quality control with me.

iszomer··on How a $2k 'Made in the USA' Phone Is Manufactured
I'm hoping it induces the reversal in reckless culture of consumption and waste and longer end-product life cycles on the companies that design and manufacture them.

iszomer··on US tax return filings drop by nearly 1M, extension requests rise
Touche. I'm just going to start querying both platforms at the same time to judge the quality of their responses. I only split it due to a recent query when ChatGPT appeared dumbfounded and cited only one source when it parallel, Grok cited fifteen webpages. Query as follows (and outside of this post's context):

- Has there ever been an instance quoted anywhere that said: "In this house we believe that: simplistic platitudes, trite tautologies, and semantically overloaded aphorisms are poor substitutes for respectful and rational discussions about complex issues."?

iszomer··on India's repair culture gives new life to dead laptops
I'd opt for an unconditional bootloader unlock on subsidized devices long EOL to save my electronics from obsolescence.
iszomer··on India's repair culture gives new life to dead laptops
Framework and Valve are brands for their end products but the meat of the argument really should be what occurs in the background, eg: formal contractual and agreement say, the integration of a Sony co-designed and manufactured camera component and its integration into an Apple iPhone for example, as well as all the intermediaries involved up and down the chain.
iszomer··on US tax return filings drop by nearly 1M, extension requests rise
The more you know; ChatGPT and xAI have fascinating responses on clarifications; TIL what ad hominem's are.

IRS' DirectFile hasn't matured yet to the point of accepting health insurance and retirement data; it could only process basic W-2's. At least they made a good effort in it, will try again next year.

iszomer··on The slow collapse of critical thinking in OSINT due to AI
That is why it is ideal to ask it double-sided questions to test its biases as well as your own. Simply googling it is not enough when most people don't think to customize their search anyway, compounded by the fact that indexed sources may have changed or have been deprecated over time.
