iszomer··on That Secret Service SIM farm story is bogus
Don't be so quick to judge -- I _think_ it could all be BS too. eg: getting hooked into ufo's and alien conspiracies as a kid until Mick West came along with real pragmatic analysis.
iszomer··on How AWS S3 serves 1 petabyte per second on top of slow HDDs
Yes, WD 28-30TB range; we have a sku with 1000+ drives per rack and it weighs more than a ton.
iszomer··on That Secret Service SIM farm story is bogus
I thought the point of espionage is complete plausible deniability. For all you know it could be part of a bigger (psy)op to see what "lights up" when people go about sharing analyzing, critiquing this _news_..
iszomer··on Nvidia buys $5B in Intel
And why would they when TSMC is in both China and the US in some fashion?
iszomer··on Robert Redford has died
RIP. The Last Castle.
iszomer··on California reached a union deal with tech giants
That would be a quality control nightmare on his part to vet alone. And what's to say people still wouldn't "skim off the top" with or without money in society?
iszomer··on Mass Firings for Charlie Kirk Comments Appear Coordinated
It means the event has had such an impact in which it has already reverberated across the entire globe, where other countries' leaders and people have responded.

He's saying to not be surprised when this may potentially affect the already volatile state of the global markets and economies even further or, whatever industries you follow or are in or, policy changes that may (already) be in the pipeline.

If I may give a metaphor, in the context of the global trade and economies, countries have been using the "carrot on a stick" approach to negotiations. Trump came and changed the stick to a club. Who knows now whether he'll throw out the carrot altogether and whether others will do the same.

iszomer··on The Murder of Charlie Kirk Didn't Help Anyone
Or maybe we can acknowledge that we are all potentially being played.

iszomer··on After nearly half a century in deep space, every ping from Voyager 1 is a bonus
Or the exhaust plume of a cloaked Klingon wessel.
iszomer··on OpenAI announces AI-powered hiring platform to take on LinkedIn
Voluntary psych profile builder, yikes. Instead of projecting a dreaded dystopian, privacy-invading future, we're offering complete submission, putting those three-letter agencies out of business.
iszomer··on Who Owns, Operates, and Develops Your VPN Matters
This goes back to that old meme from before: "There is no cloud, it's just someone else's computer."
iszomer··on Evidence that AI is destroying jobs for young people
The exaggerated state of the national security narrative.
iszomer··on Ten Thousand Lifetimes with Roguelikes
Teleglitch: Die More Edition is a roguelike I play quite frequently. I still have one or two sub levels of Arena that I have yet to _survive_.
iszomer··on Uncle Sam shouldn't own Intel stock
Typical story of the one of many products of globalism where the standard traditional definition of monopoly has been nullified by it's massive supply chain spanning countries.
iszomer··on US threatens extra tariffs, export bans, for nations that regulate Big Tech
I take it you are you a fan of the NUSA lore then? Arasaka ftw.
iszomer··on Uncle Sam shouldn't own Intel stock
Not an American monopoly though.
iszomer··on Leaving Gmail for Mailbox.org
I could never get my domains hosted on sdf.org to work reliably on fastmail. It had briefly worked when MX records were set up but the moment I configured for DKIM and SPF, I haven't been able to get the service back.
iszomer··on PCIe 8.0 announced by the PCI-Sig will double throughput again
Retimers.
iszomer··on PCIe 8.0 announced by the PCI-Sig will double throughput again
I wonder how many additional layers are required in the PCB to achieve this + how this will dramatically affect the TDP; the GPU's aren't the only components with heat tolerance and capacitance.
iszomer··on PCIe 8.0 announced by the PCI-Sig will double throughput again
Supply + demand, the manufacturing-capacity rabbit hole.
iszomer··on Tesla Disbands Dojo Supercomputer Team
Maybe an intentional troll, given the profile's project.the.snowball moniker. /shrug
iszomer··on Exploiting zero days in abandoned hardware
This was my baseline 20 or so years ago starting from the WRT54G. Now, it's just a bullet point in the miscellaneous section of my cv.
iszomer··on Tea app leak worsens with second database exposing user chats
I don't trust dropping any PII/payment-related forms in the mail either, stemmed from a recent experience in which a NYC's DoF had used my information to pay for services on my behalf without authorization.
iszomer··on Tea app leak worsens with second database exposing user chats
Especially the IRS? eg, ID.me?
iszomer··on GPT might be an information virus (2023)
Broadly speaking, this would be how I view the widening diplomatic gap between the CCP and Taiwan. Not the DPP, not the KMT, Taiwan.
iszomer··on Women dating safety app 'Tea' breached, users' IDs posted to 4chan
I can totally imagine our intel agencies and foreign state actors having a field day with this, as mirrored here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWTyvvb8GFs
iszomer··on Subreply – An open source text-only social network
I used `Kizmiaz` as a (gaming) username at some point in time and let my pre-pubescence self run wild on that account.
iszomer··on The new skill in AI is not prompting, it's context engineering
This article reads as if the author pulled this idea straight from the MGS2's ending regarding giving and creating context..
iszomer··on AMD's CDNA 4 Architecture Announcement
We're forbidden to trading our own stock anyway, SEC regulation on insider trading and all.
iszomer··on Researchers develop ‘transparent paper’ as alternative to plastics
Which also iirc Japan does very well. Sure, the power generated is connected to it's grid and it pales in comparison to their other forms of energy production but it is also a part of their waste management policy.
