iszomer··on The post-GeForce era: What if Nvidia abandons PC gaming?
ZLUDA?
iszomer··on US blocks all offshore wind construction, says reason is classified
More like "if we can't be partners we'll find your enemies and fund them instead." or, "we'll partner with your next of kin who may be more sympathetic [or suggestive] to our concerns."
iszomer··on US blocks all offshore wind construction, says reason is classified
Coincidentally, TAE Technologies had a product placement baked into the 2021 film named Finch with Tom Hanks, distributed by Apple Original Films.
iszomer··on Show HN: A 2-row, 16-key keyboard designed for smartphones
Blast from the past using Minuum on a Nexus 4, my second Android smartphone from my first with the O.G. Motorola Droid.
iszomer··on Palantir could be the most overvalued company that ever existed
Are you a robot? I was just pointing out the human nuance that possibly started their business (and perhaps strategic) relationship.
iszomer··on PeerTube is recognized as a digital public good by Digital Public Goods Alliance
I "trade" my content in kind -- garbage in, garbage out style -- combining my short form renders on my commute with songs I think will match the rhythm then publish as a music video.

And I'm not chasing clicks, likes, nor monetization on that platform; I was fortunate to ignore FB's SSO with IG as I deleted that account a decade or longer ago.

iszomer··on Cassette tapes are making a comeback?
I still have a few specialty MD's from various brands such as the mona/bitclub; my last recorder was the RH1 and I regretted ever letting that unit go.
iszomer··on Palantir could be the most overvalued company that ever existed
> Everything else is just Musk's grandiose..

Meanwhile the story of Jensen and Musk continued onward with custom chips to support FSDv1, in which J's personal delivery of the DGX1 to OpenAI served as the catalyst to the relationship, iirc.

iszomer··on Palantir could be the most overvalued company that ever existed
> That puts them in a precarious situation when the political winds change

I thought Alex Karp in a relatively recent interview said he didn't give a hoot?

iszomer··on Palantir could be the most overvalued company that ever existed
I think it would blow their minds that Tesla isn't just an EV manufacturer.
iszomer··on Damn Small Linux
I still remember burning the dsl livecd image to a mini-cd shaped like a credit card (edges trimmed off) and using it on university workstations.
iszomer··on South Korea police say 120k home cameras hacked for 'sexploitation' footage
I keep them in a separate vlan with outbound internet enabled but firewalled from my main network and am still building a ruleset for blocking all *.cn and china-based ipv4 addr blocks. One interesting tidbit during the aws-east-1 downtime was that tapo remote viewing was inaccessible while wyze was okay.
iszomer··on South Korea police say 120k home cameras hacked for 'sexploitation' footage
Outside: porch pirates and the occasional sneaky meth head; inside: basement boiler amperage and fuel capacity readouts.
iszomer··on South Korea police say 120k home cameras hacked for 'sexploitation' footage
Most of them are anyway; even Tapo was (in name only) spun off from TP-Link and couldn't be set up without bluetooth enabled. I almost entered Reo's garden while researching Ubiquiti and Unifi.
iszomer··on Games using anti-cheats and their compatibility with GNU/Linux or Wine/Proton
I am a casual watcher of Willjum' Rust single and cooperative plays whenever it rarely pops into my YT feed.
iszomer··on PS5 now costs less than 64GB of DDR5 memory. RAM jumps to $600 due to shortage
I'm still on PCIe 3.0 on my main machine and the RX580 works fine for my needs. Outside of the scope of OP, I recently picked up a (new) 5060 not due to the impending memory production apocalypse but because I wanted to extend my current setup with something I recently read about on LSFG, previously posted here but garnered no interest/comments.

iszomer··on PS5 now costs less than 64GB of DDR5 memory. RAM jumps to $600 due to shortage
You'd be surprised.
iszomer··on Seed. LINE's Custom Typeface
You went off the deep end after your first sentence. I think it's best phrased as "first in, best dressed" for that demographic era. Sure, I don't use it as my main messenger but my family, relatives, and their friends do.
iszomer··on What happened to Transmeta, the last big dotcom IPO
It was my first sub-notebook, coming from a thinkpad 600e, and though my memory is fuzzy from 20+ years ago, I think I used an atheros wifi pcmcia/cardbus? card with it at some point. It was also awkward some times having to carry their external 3.5" floppy drive too.
iszomer··on What happened to Transmeta, the last big dotcom IPO
I remember it being in one of Sony VAIO's product lines called the picturebook, for its small form factor and a swivel webcam.
iszomer··on Nvidia takes $1B stake in Nokia
That growing narrative regarding all these AI-centric companies "funding each other" is beginning to look a lot like Attrition.org's (former) sexchart..
iszomer··on SIM Farm Dismantled in Europe, Seven Arrested
The Secret Service story from last month may be alleged as 'bogus,' as discussed previously, but the SIM farm story appears to be legit -- especially since another has been found across the pond.

iszomer··on America’s semiconductor boom [video]
FYI to all: China Airlines is a Taiwanese company (ROC) and has no affiliation with mainland China (PRC).
iszomer··on Android's sideloading limits are its most anti-consumer move
Or you can try not updating Android or continue using a device already EOL. Can't have your cake and eat it too on releases and security patches.
iszomer··on If you buy more than two new games a year, you're in the minority
I guess I'm in the minority as well; not a Game Pass subscriber let alone own an xbox but I have been slowly acquiring games through Steam over the years, at most three titles last year. The most recent: Manifold Garden, BLACKSHARD, and Chaotic Era. To my knowledge, these are as indie as they can be in my books.
iszomer··on Peter Thiel, Would-Be Philosopher King, Takes on Democracy
Judging by the rest of the comments on this post, they don't add much to "the conversation" either but I would think Peter Thiel "has a lot of fingers in a lot of pies", eg: Palantir.

I'm okay with the flag -- morning HN skim + dumb comment prior to work and after hours followup on my commute home.

iszomer··on AMD signs AI chip-supply deal with OpenAI, gives it option to take a 10% stake
Yes. We don't have a sku with OpenAI but we may soon have one and they will be competing with others already in the pipeline. Recall the recent AMD acquisition of ZT Systems' engineering wing and now manufacturing by Sanmina.
iszomer··on Why can't we go back to small phones?
Have you looked into ikko's kickstarter called the mind one?
iszomer··on General strike against 13-hour work day brings Greece to a halt
My place of employment is trying for a 12h/3d with the remaining 4h given for free. Their main objective is to have workers on the floor 24/7 with no overlapping shifts. This is a nightmare scenario on logistics and circadian rhythms if you don't drive but benefits for having free week days. Also, it would benefit the employer too regarding managing global operations more efficiently due to time zone differentials.
iszomer··on Nvidia buys $5B in Intel
As Taiwan should, it's their prerogative. People often think when global policy changes abruptly everything stops; in reality, the contrary is true: supply chains and demands shift.

For what it's worth, its TSMC's expertise in semiconductor manufacturing that has been loaned to the US, not bought, settled, and forgotten.
