issamehh··on Apple knew a supplier was using child labor but took 3 years to fully cut ties
I'd be interested in hearing why you think we'd be better off with middle school students having jobs. I'm a firm believer that absolutely having to have a job to survive completely wrecks the learning process. Not just for children but even adult students at universities. I had to work to scrape by and my schoolwork, my job, and my mental/physical health suffered because of it. Sure, my situation required it and so I'd be much worse off without doing so but I'd have been even better off if it wasn't a requirement in the first place. That is the future I wish to work towards
issamehh··on Track Biden – The first 100 Days
If you think that was the death of it, I hate to break it to you but it was dead long before. This is just a husk
issamehh··on Firefox to block Backspace key from working as “Back” button
This is the worst behavior to me. Those are precious buttons I want to bind to other uses. Too many times they've navigated me away from what I was looking at when I happened to press them with the browser focjsdd
issamehh··on Why do they still make car alarms? (2015)
Jokes on any thief that tries to steal from my trunk. I don't really care about any of the junk in there other than maybe my jumper cables and tool set. Have fun sorting through all of the extra stuff to find them in time
issamehh··on IPFS Support in Brave
My understanding is that the integrity of the contents is assured due to the identifier being a hash of the content. From there I don't think it's really needed for a whole protocol to verify the author. Couldn't something as simple as a gpg signature be sufficient? If they signed the hash and gave it to you then it would be good
issamehh··on Context switching costs more than we give it credit for
I can't speak for Apple users but my watch actually has the opposite effect. The only notifications I let it show are one's that are determined to be important to look at. Everything else remains on the phone and on mute until it is time to deal with them
issamehh··on Rust is a hard way to make a web API
At what point do we consider a franework mature? I've done a number of CRUD apps in Rust at this point and I have to say the frameworks I've used have made it dead simple. So simple actually that I loathe having to do so in other languages. The ecosystem beyond just the web portion is truly amazing, something like serde is a wonferfully powerful tool. I won't claim that something like Rocket is finished as there are still things to be done, but at what point do you consider it to be mature?
issamehh··on Rust is a hard way to make a web API
That seems like quite a bold assumption about what I'll be running. While I do expect to a game to be able to take what it needs and certainly that could be a lot, I've definitely ran multiple games or ran intensive software at the same time. It's not always so simple
issamehh··on Amazon, Walmart Tell Consumers to Skip Returns of Unwanted Items
This is the hell I have come to live and be trapped in partially as a result of the pandemic. Those things are pure evil manifest.
issamehh··on Bitcoin is a disaster
It'd be really nice if I could find a study on this, but just because bitcoin doesn't power the majority of the transactions doesn't mean it couldn't do so without the energy needs scaling linearly with transactions. If anything I'd imagine it could become more efficient as more transactions were taking place. I see people argue this a lot and I think it's too narrow of a view on the situation.

Of course it'd be much better for us to adopt a crypto currency that uses a different algorithm that has even less energy usage. Even without that though I think it could prove to be more efficient than existing financial systems.

issamehh··on Avoid using wood burning stoves if possible, warn health experts
My parents weren't able to afford to get any other kind of heating for our home. What they could do is put in the work to find and prepare a supply of wood. To this day they still use it for heating
issamehh··on School or Prison
I can't even look at school as not being a prison. It's one of the only places I've had the displeasure to be denied basic rights such as going to use a toilet.
issamehh··on Apple has threatened to remove Amphetamine from the App Store
Amphetamine is very much a controlled substance in the US. You can receive it legally with a prescription of course but that does not mean it isn't controlled.

Of course it's just a name. There shouldn't be an argument that it's encouraging use

issamehh··on Why make games for Linux if they don't sell?
It doesn't get marked for every game that is playable. They have a list of games that are officially supported by Proton but there are so many more that work well that you can play if you enable the option in the Steam settings
issamehh··on There was a clear winner on election night: Marijuana
I'm on the opposite side of this. Tobacco is the absolute worst lingering smell. It's not even a close comparison and never was. I think combustion should be less widespread for sure. I don't think we'll see mass switches to vaping without legality though.

Even now you can get flower vaporizers but it seems not all that many people know about them.
