Someone really should make it a default to pass the referrer even for https.
But I do think there should be a good separation between html and admin backend. Security is only one reason. There are other very important reasons:
1. waste of resources. the machine that builds the html from the cms is completely idle for 99% of the time.
2. scalability. the html should be served from a storage server like S3 together with a CDN. there should be absolutely no downtime in viewing html as a result of overload.
the ideal system for small websites is a machine that is turned off by default, and when an admin needs to change something it is turned on (even if it takes a whole minute). After the changes are committed, the system creates html and sends to S3. For forms, comments, and dynamic things it's best to use third-party (like facebook comments and a billion forms services), or use a different small machine that captures user input (completely separate from the turned-off admin machine).
Also, I think it's good for our relationship because we share the same hobby. I don't know how it's going to be when working together on something that isn't a side project, but a day job.
I am totally honest with user that subscribe and let them know that they will receive a daily update on new content in the site. It works pretty well, actually. A Relatively good amount of users sign up, and I get almost no unsubscribers.
Unfortunately, I can't think of anything else. I wish it was realistic to tell you to go to the police.
Also, if you would give your email, I would definitely consider sending a donation through paypal... Hopefully other readers here will do the same.
I know the design is not top notch for now, I'm planning to give it some more thought. Any suggestions?
Regarding annoying people, however,...
I think responses in this thread are somewhat lacking a sense of humor
Currently the email is plain-text, but in the future paying customers can customize the email sent
You can opt-out simply by filtering out emails sent from your past contacts, who you do not wish to receive emails from.
From my experience regular users sometimes prefer sharing with everyone instead of taking the time to select specific contacts. They don't really care, it's just email...
Would you consider putting this on your site? If not, why?
