ishanjain28··on It’s time to give Firefox a fresh chance
I started using firefox back in march of last year. It has gotten way better. There are few annoying bugs I found(like this, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mywhU2zu87c). I have not been able to replicate them consistently, So they are pending on bugzilla.

There are also some cases when websites like thepiratebay.org refuse to open, At first, I thought this might be some Mitm or DNS based block set by the ISP but then chrome opens it just fine, Don't know what happened there.. :/

There are also some lazy developers like the one at Mashape who most likely don't test their website on Firefox because if they did, They'd know there Login/Signup system is broken on firefox for the last 7 months!

Ignoring few third party related issues, It's pretty good and I use it on both Android, Linux and windows.

It's didn't just happen to me.

Search for "Facebook adding friends without my approval" on google and you'll a lot of threads where people have had similar experience like me.

Here is one, https://www.facebook.com/help/community/question/?id=9079047...

I would like to share my experience here because I think it was creepy on their part.

I only had <50 friends after 2015 on my facebook account. So, I would get notifications 1-2 times every week, "X is new to facebook, Since he is new to facebook, You should introduce him to more friends", Problem is,

1. I have no clue who X is! Sometimes I found that X lived in the same city that I lived in, Sometimes there was no visible co-relation. 2. X was automatically added to my friends list without my permission!

On several occassions, There were some people who were added as my friend but I couldn't find them on my friends list. The only way I figured they were my friends was when I received a notification and then visited their profile.

On 5-10 occassions every month, facebook will randomly send friend requests to people I don't even know and then some day I am just browsing and I get a notification that "Y has accepted your friend request" and I just couldn't recall sending friend request to that person.

So, Yeah, They were literally forcing me to be friends with people I don't even know, presumably, because I never clicked on ads and if I have less friends, That just means there is little activity in my circle and there is little information they can collect about me, IDK.

Whenever this happened, I usually took a screenshot, It probably doesn't do a solid job of proving my claim but it's something.

And before someone here starts running down a list of possible things that might have happened, Like someone hacked into my account, apps that had access to my account etc. I just want to say, I was a member of official 2600 magzine group, I posted all of this multiple times there and they did helped me a lot to prevent me from a lot of ways that someone might be accessing my account. I followed everything and it 6 months later it still didn't stop.

It's probably a git/libgit issue. I reported a similar issue(Cloning/Pulling commits from github took forever, Transfer speeds going as low as 1 kbps when my connection was 50mbps).

They asked me to run some commands and log output to measure packet loss/speed etc. and then told me that my connection had 2-5% packet loss which was causing all the problem and I need to talk to my ISP or get a better connection.

I switched my ISP after that and its not a problem anymore.

ishanjain28··on Do not use NPM 5.7
npm is one of the few tools that I am afraid to have on my Laptop, Because unlike most tools I have used, When npm does something wrong, It'll ruin not just itself but a lot more directories on my pc which is annoying to fix.

Thanks @atrus. That website is really nice.
ishanjain28··on Net Neutrality: Time to Use Mesh Networks to Build Your Own Internet?
Hi, I have a question. If people try to build their own network, They'll have to connect to the existing internet at some point so they can access a website that is on the internet and not on their network, Right?

So, How would they do it? Do you just ask some ISP for a high-speed connection? How does it work? I saw some videos about people in Detroit setting up their own network but they didn't show everything and their internet speed was quite low.

ishanjain28··on Ask HN: What can I do to acquire more freelancing projects/clients?
2 Engineers from Microsoft Azure team tweeted about lots of work opportunities yesterday. It was quite interesting. They were looking for Junior/Senior devs writing Go, Rust, JS, PHP, Python and a few more languages.
ishanjain28··on How Playing Around with New Technologies Landed Me a 6-Month Freelance Gig
I am a student so $40/hour works great for me. I don't know if it's good money when you are paying for rent and other costs in a city.
ishanjain28··on How Playing Around with New Technologies Landed Me a 6-Month Freelance Gig
India. I charge $40/hour and people either ask me to charge a one time fee or reduce the price. Funny how people forget there are other places on earth where charging $150/hour would be nuts!
ishanjain28··on Ask HN: Is Ruby on Rails still worth it?
This is exactly all the pain points I had with node. Left it about a year ago, Forever.
ishanjain28··on BountySource suspended from GitHub
Tried it a few times now and then and it was pretty much dead. No wonder they didn't replied to Github.
