isaacb··on Ask HN: Would you use a site for meeting programmers at Starbucks?
It would be nice if you picked local cafes instead of Starbucks. I'm a bit of a coffee nerd and Starbucks offends my taste buds and sensibilities.

Actually, it would be cool to have "Meet a Programmer" tables in coworking spaces. I think a lot of people (developers and non-developers) would benefit from that.

isaacb··on German president says whistleblowers like Snowden merit respect
Then pick a word that doesn't associate her abhorrent behavior with her sex.
isaacb··on Passive Income Hacker vs Startup Guy
This started out so well and I was hoping it would end along the lines of "different hackers with different goals," but steered way off course to some vitriolic attack on the casual hacker lifestyle.

I think if anything, bootstrapping your product to success is far more respectable than taking large sums of seed funding and potentially throwing it all away when you find that your market doesn't even exist.

isaacb··on How do I “think in AngularJS” if I have a jQuery background?
The cool thing about Angular is that it introduces a pretty unique way of building applications. What people don't seem to get is that it isn't mutually exclusive with jQuery. You can use Angular and still pull in the full jQuery library for your directives. What you'll find, however, is that you don't really need much more than the jqLite library that ships with Angular. The "Angular Way" alleviates the need for the more involved DOM functions in jQuery.
isaacb··on Just released a major update for my site. What do you guys think?
Something that would be very useful, but that I haven't seen in any of these web-based regex tools, is to list the contents of capturing groups. If you added that, yours would be my goto regex tester.
isaacb··on Poll: What is your favorite programming font?
Bitstream Vera Sans Mono is the only smooth font I've been able to find that still looks good at smaller sizes, which means more lines of code on the screen. Combined with Solarized (usually light), my eyes have been really really spoiled.
isaacb··on Statement from Edward Snowden in Moscow
"and neither is the extralegal penalty of exile"

Okay, so this guy keeps saying some pretty strange things. If he came to the States, he would no doubt be tried in the legal system. He is putting himself into an extralegal position. I think it's probably the best thing for him to do at this point, but to say that the government has in any way forced him out of the legal system is pretty silly.

isaacb··on Poll: How do you learn new technologies?
You really need an option for "Reading the documentation" which is pretty different from reading blogs and watching youtube videos.
isaacb··on Finding Sociopaths on Facebook
I hate that the author is using terrorist and sociopath interchangeably
isaacb··on [dead]
Why is this sending me through github?
isaacb··on PRISM fears give private search engine DuckDuckGo its best week ever
DDG actually uses a handful of search engines (including Bing), though I think that Yahoo! is the primary source.
isaacb··on PRISM fears give private search engine DuckDuckGo its best week ever
It really only took me about a week to get used to DuckDuckGo, and now using Google just feels wrong.
isaacb··on Ask HN: Can we still trust SHA-1 and SHA-2 created by NSA?
These aren't closed algorithms. They are well understood and explored in-depth by the academic community.
isaacb··on A better git log
What is that color scheme? It's pretty great.
isaacb··on A better git log
There are definitely screenshots on the website (http://jonas.nitro.dk/tig/screenshots/)
isaacb··on Why aren't more companies like Amazon?
The post doesn't mean why aren't there more ecommerce giants, but rather why don't more big companies aggressively reinvest their income into growth and to enter new markets rather than hoard cash just to satisfy stockholders.
isaacb··on High-school teen builds one-man submarine for $2,000
Or even easier, just submerge it without a person inside and see how deep it can go.
isaacb··on Turing Drawings
This one is probably my favorite so far: http://wry.me/hacking/Turing-Drawings/#7,5,2,2,2,3,2,0,5,3,0...

Ends up looking like rain or an old filmreel: http://wry.me/hacking/Turing-Drawings/#7,3,5,1,3,4,2,1,1,2,3...

Still noise, but looks like sand, maybe, or grass waving in the wind: http://wry.me/hacking/Turing-Drawings/#7,3,4,1,2,2,2,3,2,2,1...

Wait no, this is my favorite so far: http://wry.me/hacking/Turing-Drawings/#7,3,2,1,0,6,1,0,2,1,0...

More sand: http://wry.me/hacking/Turing-Drawings/#7,3,0,1,1,0,1,2,5,2,3...

Proper rain: http://wry.me/hacking/Turing-Drawings/#7,3,4,1,0,4,2,3,4,1,0...

Moving line: http://wry.me/hacking/Turing-Drawings/#7,3,0,2,3,0,1,1,2,2,1...

Something about this is cool: http://wry.me/hacking/Turing-Drawings/#7,3,5,2,0,2,1,1,3,2,2...

Proper grass waving in the wind (wait for it): http://wry.me/hacking/Turing-Drawings/#7,3,1,2,2,3,2,2,0,2,1...
