That's pretty impressive.
In two years time Voddler (or something like it) will be big for movies, Spotify will be big for music and people will stop purchasing things entirely.
The "Pirate movement" will see this as progress and smart people going around the old geezers in charge, because we don't have to pay outrageous amounts of money for a piece of plastic we don't even want.
The media industry will call it a success in their anti-piracy harshness and will cite cases like this as the reason for the new ways to crop up.
Both parties will think they're right, and in the end the only thing that has changed is the distribution-system.
The 2 year timescale is probably off, but i'm pretty sure everything will end with those idiots saying "It's a good thing we put kids in jail because otherwise we wouldn't live in the wonderful world we do today."
I can imagine quite a lot of spammers who would love to have a blog-post on an otherwise reputable blog. If spammers manage to abuse this system they could get their blogposts, filled with links and instructions to buy medication, all over all posterous blogs.
Do you like, do bike-marathons or something pg?
Edit: Downvote? Really? I'm not being rude or anything.. I'm just saying; the guys legs look great.
When people talked to me about how stressed out they were and all the stuff they had to do i used to think "Seems like you should just do it and not be so stressed and freaked out and everything would be a lot simpler."
But some weeks ago I actually felt stressed, for no apparent reason either; it was a really creepy feeling bothering me much, much more than I would have expected. It made it harder to sleep, i would almost get an upset stomach.
I could not figure out for the life of me why I was feeling that way, or how I could make it stop. It was completely new. The feeling have since passed and I hope it won't ever come back. But I have a bit more respect now for people who get stressed, it's not really helpful or useful to just tell them "Don't be stressed and everything would be easier."
And it's not really that easy to just.. get rid of the feeling.
The post is absolutely correct, stop "being busy" and you wouldn't be so busy. But some real tips psychological or otherwise on how to avoid the feeling would be far more helpful than simply; in my opinion: stating the obvious.
"Stop being busy. Just decide to stop, today." Has that ever worked? Has it worked for the author or is he like I was and have simply never felt stress?
None of these are really in the "must get the latest in porn" category.
As I read the article, I didn't really interpret it as he was actually giving out $100 a week, but rather saying that if you gave a dollar to everyone that asked, you could spend a lot of money.
We're also talking a specific week here, not at any given moment. I've never been to WWDC or SF during a big conference but if I was a homeless person looking for a place with a lot of people who is sure to have money, I'd look at the WWDC crowd.
Then again, it is DEFCON CTF they're trying to get into, so it does require some amazing problem-solving skills.
This man might be intelligent, but he is very known for making his mind up about something and then not changing it for anything.
"Outliers" by Malcolm Gladwell has a whole chapter on this guy and people like him, according to Gladwell, Langan has barely had any contact with academia, so the above statement doesn't seem to have much backing. He got thrown out because he couldn't understand the "social norm" of speaking up for himself, something he hints at in the video.
Also, do you have any plans to expand the music library?
But my comment was that if he really is after making something valuable, he can choose either platform to make it for first and then make it for the other. It really won't make any difference since he will most likely not just be able to make it for one platform then wait for the money to roll in.
Or in other words, making it for one doesn't have to exclude the other; and after having created it for one, he will be able to get a better feel for the market and work on the other while working on the marketing.
I don't see how choosing just one of the platforms will make you the most money unless you're counting on a lucky break and get the lottery sales figures. Hence my judgment that he's really asking what platform he's most likely to get lucky in.
Of course everything I say has limitations in what you want to produce. And sort of contradictory to my point if the project is very big.
It sounds like your after "code a weekend and get paid millions". Which is a statistically non-existent market on either of the platforms.
Is there anyone who has actually made scientific benchmarks that one could draw conclusions from?
One note on the article though, it says: "Heroku aims to make software development more accessible for a wider range of people. It does so by providing a browser-based programming environment that cuts out steps traditionally needed to produce RoR applications."
Didn't they cut that entirely? Even Heroku Garden is closed right?
A history of BitTorrent should involve how it was developed, how it has changed since it's release and what kind of application it sees, not only the pirating (and WoW) application.
I wish he would have made the source available for what generated those image though! Would make it easier to get right into it and start playing.
Not only is real-time application support a huge step, but the way Heroku has listened to its customers here to implement Node.js support is amazing.
If you don't know anyone you could drop me an email (it's in my profile) and I could check the store next time I'm out.
