iqanq··on How illiterate people use their mobile phones (2012)

iqanq··on Use of Google Analytics declared illegal by French data protection authority
Will you defrob my balancator? Of course not, because you don't know what it is. The same applies here: if you don't know what something means then say no. If you say yes then it's understood that you know what you signed up to.
iqanq··on Use of Google Analytics declared illegal by French data protection authority
>If my website askes users for their permission to use GA and they click yes then is that still illegal here? I see this as yes it's still illegal.

The basis of regulations is that citizens are too stupid to consent to things even if they are fully informed. Whether that is a good or bad approach is up for debate.

iqanq··on 10 Years of Nukemap
Oh yes, nukemap. https://i.imgur.com/HxIYAdv.jpeg
iqanq··on On iPhone sideloading: it’s ok, I’m changing my mind
If you want to sideload then buy an Android... they are even cheaper. It's not like they pulled the rug out from under you: you already knew you couldn't sideload when you bought the phone.
iqanq··on Apple’s profit is always the priority–no matter the cost
It's a good question. Google should've done it, but they have failed time and time again. Microsoft just gave up.
iqanq··on Our User-Mode WireGuard Year
Can someone explain to me why wireguard is implemented as a kernel module? Yes I get it, more performance. But isn't it completely and absolutely insane to run a complicated piece of software that is open to outside connections with kernel privileges?
iqanq··on UK.gov to make adults give credit card details for access to Facebook or TikTok
Example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o5GDrJEGkVk

I suppose if you have verified your age in the past (for example if you bought something from the play store?) then you can watch the video freely. Try and watch it while logged off.

iqanq··on UK.gov to make adults give credit card details for access to Facebook or TikTok
No, it's not a Google thing. It was mandated by the EU. https://blog.youtube/news-and-events/using-technology-more-c...
iqanq··on UK.gov to make adults give credit card details for access to Facebook or TikTok
You need a credit card to watch age-restricted videos on YouTube.
iqanq··on UK.gov to make adults give credit card details for access to Facebook or TikTok
It happened in the EU. Why wouldn't it happen in the UK?
iqanq··on UK.gov to make adults give credit card details for access to Facebook or TikTok
Most people, under-18s or not, will download whatever comes first when looking for "free vpn" on the app store.
iqanq··on The unlimited storage that Google promised my university is being discontinued
Unlimited coffee is also limited by the amount of pee you can hold in your bladder.
iqanq··on We’re fine without Facebook, German and French ministers say
I hate ginger ale. I hope they make it illegal!
iqanq··on We’re fine without Facebook, German and French ministers say
Have they asked citizens? Everybody I know who uses Facebook/Instagram like it.
iqanq··on Are Today’s Portraitists Better Than the Old Masters?
It's half Elon Musk half Joey from Friends.
iqanq··on Tell HN: Stack Exchange (Stack Overflow) is now blocking Tor
I've tried to create new circuits, changing IP addresses, and they are all blocked.
iqanq··on I would like a job writing Haskell
I would like a job watching mexican soap operas.
iqanq··on You can change your number
So choose an identifier that does not... identify you. Or choose not to have a username. I assume that that will be an option, since Telegram has it as well.
iqanq··on Firefox 97.0
According to their calendar, it's not released until tomorrow: https://wiki.mozilla.org/Release_Management/Calendar
iqanq··on Show HN: SHA-256 explained step-by-step visually
Two of the buttons at the top have no "title" attribute and therefore no tooltip.
iqanq··on Less Than 10% of Firefox Users on Linux Are Running Wayland
btrfs is a drop-in replacement. Nothing changes for the user when they switch to it. With Wayland many basic features are missing even today. (Yes I know someone will explain here that everything works. Don't make me laugh)
iqanq··on BeeWare – write Python, run everywhere using native UIs
And not even that. Unless they are pretending that GTK+ or Qt or whatever they've chosen looks native on desktops.
iqanq··on Ask HN: What caused the Olympics to become so terrible?
Now we have better entertainment.
iqanq··on My cheapskate commenting system
The fact that the database is connected to the internet and shows the real names of people publicly means that this article is unrelated.
iqanq··on My cheapskate commenting system
What a GDPR nightmare.
iqanq··on Undocumented x86 instructions to read/ write microcode
This is not notable. Of course there exist instructions that are used to update microcode. It would only be notable if you could execute them as an end costumer, which you can't.
iqanq··on 15 EU states subsidise fossil-fuels more than renewables
If it means that energy is cheaper for citizens of those countries (not states, but countries) that's good for them.
iqanq··on More than 1k Dutch residents plan to throw rotten eggs at Jeff Bezos' superyacht
It's envy. He can afford to buy a yacht, I can't.
iqanq··on More than 1k Dutch residents plan to throw rotten eggs at Jeff Bezos' superyacht
I think I speak for many more Europeans when I say: I want to be free to conduct my business with whatever corporation I want.
