I might be yes, I could be mistaken.
This is true in the US, but not everywhere.
Neither can be trusted to retain a glass of water, let alone personally identifying information that can spur advertising campaigns and sway elections in countries around the world.
Is this a serious question?
We bury it underground in vast bunkers with hundreds of warnings and ominous-looking signs inteded to warn people thousands of years into the future not to fucking open the thing.

Of course we don't know how to handle it. We basically dump nuclear waste in glorified landfills. Look how great that turned out for our regular waste that doesn't pose the grave threat of biological/ecological hazard.
That's called civilisation.
And the US doesn't have absolute free speech. It never did.
Just like other democracies, it has restrictions on speech for various reasons, some good and some bad. It's about where an individual country draws their line on the spectrum:

Some US states have obscenity laws that other developed democracies don't. Obscenity laws. Just think about how insane that is as a concept.
People aren't going to be rioting in the streets because they lose access to Google and Facebook, come on.
People in western democracies put up with a hell of a lot worse than that from their governments without rioting.
> You can't outcompete a free nation. That's kind of its main advantage.
I'd like to believe that was true, but I think China will prove us wrong in the coming decades.
Perhaps that's what is happening with China. It's no longer dependent on the US in the way it was and in time, will eclipse the US as the largest superpower.
Around half of your population don't seem to want that at all as long as 'their guy' is in power.
To name a few.
Perhaps they do undestand and simply don't care? Why should they? Insurance is a parasitic industry.
GDP may as well be simply a measure of how much richer the rich are getting.
True, but that's irrelevant. My life is worth more to me than any comapny could pay, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't expect recompense if the company poisoned me to death. I would want to enjoy my final days in as little suffering as possible and leave something behind for whoever I might care about.
The fact is, that by making them ill you have effectively ended their life. It's manslaughter, perhaps even murder, and you have prevented them from working to support their family.
If you're going to live the remainder of your life in suffering I would bloody well hope the parties responsible start emptying their pockets for you and your family.
I can't believe I'm actually having to defend the concept of compensation from a company that poisoned someone to death. I know HN has a serious case of corporate sycophancy but this is on another level.
Do you really believe western nations don't use their power to compel poorer countries to act in a given way?
The sellers can't in all honestly claim they didn't know this would be the result.
Maybe as an Israeli you can see the hypocrisy in stating that there are no boundaries when, if it wasn't for a large part of the world deciding that in fact there ARE boundaries that should not be crossed, the Nuremberg trials would never have been held and Israel would not exist at all.
But you go ahead and ignore your own history.
In fairness, that particular model seems to be mainly attributed to the kind of EA/Ubi/Acti/ annual 'AAA blockbuster' shovelware.
All games I play currently on PC are free of this crap. No game I've bought in the last year has had anything like this either.
That said I mostly play games that are highly moddable.
