intelVISA··on OpenAI o1 system card
Wish I got paid openAI money to produce such fan fiction :(
intelVISA··on Grifters, believers, grinders, and coasters
Weird kind of 'management'
intelVISA··on Grifters, believers, grinders, and coasters
Grinding without ownership? 'tis folly.
intelVISA··on Show HN: SeekStorm – open-source sub-millisecond search in Rust
A typical server is serving more than one request at a time, hopefully.
intelVISA··on Ask HN: How can I grow as an engineer without good seniors to learn from?
Running a one man startup without the experience, network or compensation is a gift..?

This is a bit of a curse, not the worst role to land on but I would not get too comfy and try get into a tech company in a year or two.

intelVISA··on Ask HN: How can I grow as an engineer without good seniors to learn from?
Not just time spent writing code but variety; the 1YOE ten times trap of some 'seniors' is very real.
intelVISA··on Thoughts on the software industry (2022)
Like all crafts it depends on your market position.

If you're good enough to have more control over the terms of your indenture then it's a pretty solid career. The complaints you level are the same for any job where you're not trusted with much autonomy.

intelVISA··on Engineers do not get to make startup mistakes when they build ledgers
if only accountancy 'learned' from OOP and just had one mutable balance for each account :)
intelVISA··on Engineers do not get to make startup mistakes when they build ledgers
unless the engineer was provably malicious wouldn't it be responsibility of the product owner? Ownership usually entails accountability, they could order proper QA?
intelVISA··on Ask HN: Has anyone tried adapting a court reporter keyboard for writing code?
...are people actually paid to write code? It's a means not an end!
intelVISA··on 1B nested loop iterations
Nobody's ever seen it!
intelVISA··on Y Combinator often backs startups that duplicate other YC companies, data shows
I think that's the old criteria, doesn't the newer one forgive lesser schools if AI buzzwords are present?
intelVISA··on Hey, wait – is employee performance Gaussian distributed?
I quite like the unlimited unpaid policy, is there a reason it's rare? I'm guessing the implication that if you can take 6months off you weren't really necessary?
intelVISA··on The 'Return to Office' Lies
If someone can do a day's work in an hour and disappear for the rest of the day: good on them, assuming it's not rushed I'd prefer that to somebody useless but glued to a desk 9-5.

Feels like a fringe belief here, and only really feasible in flat, lean orgs with semi-technical stakeholders and no BSers. [So probably <0.001% of tech industry currently]

intelVISA··on Writes Large Correct Programs (2008)
How do you propose those "BS artists" feed their families in an alternate reality tech industry where only the roles that add value are deemed worthy of food and shelter coupons?
intelVISA··on Writes large correct programs (2008)
Those pseudo-jobs are a necessary evil in lieu of some sort of UBI imo.

Plus they're useful for sabotaging your competitors' TTM.

intelVISA··on Writes Large Correct Programs (2008)
Is that unique to software though? Plenty of people can follow a plan but still find it tough to start from first principles, I would think.
intelVISA··on Americans see their savings vanish in Synapse fintech crisis
Just seeing the phrase 'financial technology company' is a red flag.
intelVISA··on Oxide Cuts Data Center Power Consumption in Half
Oxide are doing great work. Hoping they can probe the market a bit more for us out on the sidelines preparing to drop in and compete with some similar tech.
intelVISA··on Everyone is capable of, and can benefit from, mathematical thinking
Is that not better than the current alternative where they're forced to become grifters?
intelVISA··on Everyone is capable of, and can benefit from, mathematical thinking
UBI scoped for self-actualization would be nice, imagine all the mighty works people would make if not for The Markets making us organize around badware.
intelVISA··on Removing global state from LLD, the LLVM linker
Avoiding thread locals due to dynamic libraries being bad is justified but still doesn't feel like the right tradeoff.
intelVISA··on When did estimates turn into deadlines?
Best way but hard to find clients open to this as it requires more trust especially if it starts to drag on.
intelVISA··on When did estimates turn into deadlines?
Problem is anything non-trivial can't be estimated: deadlines are useful to timebox the process and keep it accountable with a follow-up to see if it's worth continuing. Otherwise it becomes "just trust me bro" which is equally unfair in the opposite direction.
intelVISA··on The myth that you can’t build interactive web apps except as single page app
Perhaps even transpiled to wasm, served on the edge, a 'compiled monoservice' if you will.
intelVISA··on Netflix buffering issues: Boxing fans complain about Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson
Not sure why Netflix is held in high regard - this proves they're just as much clowns as the other 'big players' in the circus.
intelVISA··on Apple Smells Blood in the Water
Sad but very apt analysis :(
intelVISA··on PyPI now supports digital attestations
Sounds like PyPI have been corrupted? Hopefully The Foundation can remind them of their mission.
intelVISA··on Hyperlight: Virtual machine-based security for functions at scale
Nice project, yeah this looks like a hobbled (in true MS fashion) version of TinyKVM!

Were you inspired by includeOS, Mirage, or similar?

intelVISA··on Mozilla is eliminating its advocacy division
Hmm, if true that's a weird mission they'd claim to support after what they've done to Firefox
