intelVISA··on Distributed systems programming has stalled
Distributed systems always ends up a dumping ground of failed tech solutions to deep org dysfunction.

Weak tech leadership? Let's "fix" that with some microservices.

Now it's FUBAR? Conceal it with some cloud native horrors, sacrifice a revolving door of 'smart' disempowered engineers to keep the theater going til you can jump to the next target.

Funny because dis sys is pretty solved since Lamport, 40+ years ago.

intelVISA··on GPT-4.5
Finally, someone gets it.
intelVISA··on Clean Code vs. A Philosophy Of Software Design
Software is results driven, there's no value in simply warming a seat for X YOE, talking about code instead of actually executing.
intelVISA··on DigiCert: Threat of legal action to stifle Bugzilla discourse
Some might see horror but I see a few genius level engineers 'working' 1hour a month rebuilding the same getrandom syscall.

They hiring? :]

intelVISA··on Freelancing: How I found clients, part 1
Is fractional CTO worth it? The rare times I've been free enough to look into freelance prospects they seemed mostly IC oriented.
intelVISA··on CEO Simulator: Startup Edition
You thought too much, that makes investors uneasy.
intelVISA··on US government struggles to rehire nuclear safety staff it laid off days ago
If you're not easily replaceable then the company has failed on some level.

This is why I think current org structures, and incentives, don't map properly to SWE and fuels this employment theater of "trust me I'm not a cog" => "trust me you are".

Don't know what an ideal arrangement would be, maybe SaaS is closer. Even then, still have to convince some 'cogs' to build your SaaS corp while you recoup 90% margins off their labor which is a fast path to class consciousness and we're back at square one!

intelVISA··on The True Costs of Being on YouTube
> No multiple focus on their face or their appliance. Just the essential. Wunderbar! The result is they don't need to spend $3500 for each video.

How are you going to get paid if you don't focus on the actual products sponsoring you?

intelVISA··on Product Development Processes You Might Not Have Heard of (2022)
You can only be productive 'talking about something' if you understand the concepts to later 'do what needs to be done'.

In the absence of tech leadership it might as well be magic. I wouldn't understand the working details of doctors or lawyers on a medical, or legal, project but you'd bet I'd be praying to any agile deity listening to drag it over the finish line, trusting that the profit margins would help obscure this uncomfortable reality.

intelVISA··on We were wrong about GPUs
It is quite possible, bit surprised a minor systems detour would burn months but alas. This inspires me to figure out how to sell it, sounds expensive...
intelVISA··on WASM-Native Orchestration
It's a grift as far as I can tell.
intelVISA··on Firing programmers for AI is a mistake
As one HNer aptly put it: coding is to SWE as cutting is to surgery.
intelVISA··on LINUX is obsolete (1992)
The debate that cemented Tanenbaum as a smug clown in my mind since '92, his poor students!
intelVISA··on Apple Invites
I guess this is the 'power' of regulatory capture equal to banks? Are telcos invulnerable to innovation?
intelVISA··on Open Euro LLM: Open LLMs for Transparent AI in Europe
What route(s) did you go through for funding? As an outsider the bureaucracy fascinates me, I trust it's all open and transparent like the EU?
intelVISA··on Open Euro LLM: Open LLMs for Transparent AI in Europe
I thought that was the point?

Indeed it's future reduction, an equal or better output with less labor required.

If you need to put your mind at rest change the words around and have a Stanford alum send it next time.

intelVISA··on The FizzBuzz that did not get me the job
DACH is like the reverse Silicon Valley?
intelVISA··on Crushing Jira tickets is a party trick, not a path to impact
"Drive this car with 3 wheels and if you crash it's all on you, if we get to the destination I'll be rich and DON'T even think about stopping to add a 4th wheel. DRIVE FASTER. STOP THINKING ABOUT THE WHEEL."

Really devs should exchange labor like authors with royalties, there's no incentive to ship good software for salary so you just end up with a series of "crushed tickets" aka future work for yourself as job security.

intelVISA··on Crushing Jira tickets is a party trick, not a path to impact
You'd obsolete 30% of tech 'work' without it. Unless you're a shareholder why would you want to cut bloat?
intelVISA··on Show HN: I made an open-source laptop from scratch
Nicely done, huge amount of grit and craftsmanship.
intelVISA··on Bun 1.2 Is Released
Well in their defense it would hard to get funding for JavaScriptCoreWrapper.sh so it's a useful misunderstanding to curate.

intelVISA··on I am (not) a failure: Lessons learned from six failed startup attempts
Damn it was that easy to obviate financial obligations? Guess the bank also won't care if we stop paying our mortgages?

To give credit to your position, over in Europe they've a generous welfare state yet very few successful startups so there's definitely a huge grindset factor but you're still cashing in on incredible luck or a comfortable economic position to be able to try enough times to score.

This is why the standard issue techbro advice from semi-wealthy "hustlers" who failed upwards on the backs of a few H1B 'founding' engineers is not actionable, I can at least respect the ones who don't bother with the facade.

intelVISA··on So you want to build your own data center
Hell, I'd roll in the mud if that's what it takes to upsell $10k worth of compute to $1M.
intelVISA··on Test-driven development with an LLM for fun and profit
They do implicitly: you can only be accidentally productive without those preconditions.
