ino··on Self-driving Uber car kills Arizona woman crossing street
If human behavior on the street changes because of the fear of autonomous cars, life on the streets and the streets themselves will be much shittier.

I can see banning autonomous vehicles in city centers.

ino··on Google will ban all cryptocurrency-related advertising
> Even former Rep Ron Paul's Youtube channel was demonetized--which is frankly just insanely ridiculous.

perhaps all channels with political goals (candidates, parties) should be demonetized.

ino··on Notes for new Make users
Minifiers can remove dead and unaccessible code.

They can also rename function and variable names with shorter ones, and compile code to be shorter (marginal gains since it's all going to be served compressed).

ino··on AMP: the missing controversy
Better yet, use reader mode in firefox/safari. Or stop visiting medium until they stop these user hostile practices.
ino··on CSS Grid for UI Layouts
Flexbox: distributing a variable number of elements, like an image gallery.

Float: in sections where there could be a variable number of columns, and the columns could have variable possible widths, using floats can be simpler than grids.

This is because you have to maintain many different grids (and their media queries) for the parent display:grid elements, and with floats you're only styling child elements.

ino··on Let’s talk about usernames
Some users capitalize their email address, and they expect to see it capitalized.

I think a better solution would be to use a case insensitive collation on the database for the email column.

If the user changes the capitalization of their email, treat it like any other email change (validate the new email via email token)

ino··on Desktop compositing latency is real
I have the same monitor and it's pretty good.

The only thing I don't quite like is the pixel size, it's a bit small for native scaling. I kind of wish i had gone for the 27". I went with two 25" because two 27" were a bit too big for me.

ino··on Using SVG as image placeholders
Downside: if it's an image that for some reason doesn't load, the user is confused because it doesn't match the caption.

I've had this happen with blurred images on some websites.

ino··on RSS: there's nothing better
Was. They had a search term RSS feed which was very powerful and they removed it a few years ago. I'm still pissed.
ino··on Saying Goodbye to Firebug
I hate juggling dev tools, opening, resizing, detaching them one by one, for each tab. It fucking sucks.
ino··on Seven habits of effective text editing (2000)
I can't stand editing more than a few lines on a VPS because of the latency and uncertainty. Some letters appear fast, others take a second or more, it's maddening.

Aren't they also accomplices on the net neutrality attacks?

They could stop companies from advertising "free" Youtube if they were for net neutrality. Same goes for Facebook and others, of course.

ino··on IPv6 Buddy
A shift on another keyboard wouldn't work with the buddy tab key, right?

Don't the modifier keys need to be on the same keyboard to function?

I've always wanted to map control/shift/alt/cmd to mouse buttons because I work a lot with a hand on the mouse, and some shortcuts are a bit hard one handed (ctrl+y) for example.

I've tried to do this with programmable Logitech mice without success.

ino··on US telcos appear to be selling non-anonymized access to consumer telephone data
I've found some reddit threads (in Portuguese):

https://www.reddit.com/r/portugal/comments/4hj1l7/servico_de...

https://www.reddit.com/r/portugal/comments/4nchbc/subscrição...

This is not new. TMN/MEO subscription shit has been going on for more than 10 years, but before widespread mobile internet it looked more like a SMS fishing attempt to get you subscribed.

ino··on US telcos appear to be selling non-anonymized access to consumer telephone data
MEO is the phone carrier. They're the largest one in Portugal, previously called TMN. They're the ones I called.

I can't edit to make my post clearer. I'm also not their customer anymore.

ino··on US telcos appear to be selling non-anonymized access to consumer telephone data
MEO does that in Portugal. With your phone you visit (probably) an ad on a website and you're automatically subscribed to some 3rd party service that charges 3€ a week from your mobile operator credit.

Then you call MEO to cancel the service and then you learn they're not refunding your money and that instead of this 1€ call you could have disabled the 3rd party services through their web login.

It's incredibly hostile, and there are more dirty tricks they use.

They also use those means to know your face to scan photos and ask people connected to that contact list to tag you in photos, so they know where you've been, even match them with events.

They can fill your shadow profile with photos, location and time data. It's frightening.

ino··on Catalan referendum: 'Hundreds injured' in Catalan clashes
How about the third way, where a region is increasingly unhappy with the central government (look at the election results in the past 20 years), and wants to have a legal option of getting out of the union if/when they start feeling opressed.

People have been talking about this for decades and nothing has been done.

How do you think people in Galicia and Basque Country are feeling now? Is this what should make them proud of being Spanish?

Also many people are tired of the monarchy.

ino··on Catalan referendum: 'Hundreds injured' in Catalan clashes
The sovereignty of Spain falls on all Spanish citizens. The sovereignty of Catalonia falls on theirs (if they wish so).

ino··on Articles on fractals, computer graphics, mathematics, demoscene and more
Recently I came across http://iquilezles.org/www/articles/ibilinear/ibilinear.htm when researching how to draw textured non-parallelogram quadrilaterals, without affine texture mapping, with WebGL / OpenGL ES 2.

I was disappointed to learn that OpenGL wouldn't do it and we have to calculate it on our own and send in a 3rd texture coordinate to each vertex for extra calculation on the shader.

Sadly, there isn't much useful info on this subject on the internet (I'm not talking about projective mapping, but bilinear interpolation). I've found this: http://www.reedbeta.com/blog/quadrilateral-interpolation-par... that I think will work for my case.

My problem is that I also use normals to do "fake" parallel lighting on quads and it accentuates even more the affine errors on non parallelogram quadrilaterals. It's easier to just subdivide the quad to minimize the affine artifacts.

If anyone knows a better way to solve it, I'd love to learn.
