ingve··on Ask HN: Intermediate Python learning resources?
If you work with other languages in addition to Python, it's easy to fall back into old habits. You should internalize the content from these two excellent presentations:

Raymond Hettinger's "Transforming Code into Beautiful, Idiomatic Python":

(pyvideo.org has a lot of other great talks and presentations.)

Ned Batchelder's "Loop Like A Native":

Python Module of the Week is also an excellent resource:

The studies supporting it have apparently been somewhat hard to confirm, a lot of the source material used by McConnell seems to be from secondary sources and self-referential. [1] is a detailed blog post where the author tries to track down the original sources:

Apparently, that "independent" WordPress Foundation is still just Matt:

"From an ultimate decision-making point of view, the Foundation is mainly just me. [...] It’s worth noting that the Foundation was created purely to be a trademark and IP holding entity that Automattic could transfer its ownership of the WordPress trademark to. There are no “members.”" [0]

ingve··on The Lesser Known Contributors Who Are Trying To Make PHP Good Again
Breivik is a fairly common last name. There are actually 8 men in Norway who have Anders as their first name, and Breivik as their last name.[1]

Looks very useful!

(Minor quirk: whenever I get to the bottom of the page, it automatically scrolls up again about ten lines after a second. Happens in both Safari and Chrome, running on OS X)

ingve··on Ask HN: Writing better PHP
PHP: The Right Way [1] was well received here on HN [2] when it was announced a couple of months ago.

ingve··on Show HN: appspydr.com - xcode/iPhone programming resource search engine
Just a quick question: What does appspydr offer compared to Cocoa Literature List[1], which also has search from a curated list of articles, plus chronological lists of articles by (broad, but well organized) categories?

This experiment is apparently very compelling to us geeks, but according to Po Bronson, there are a number of problems with the marshmallow experiment (very few kids took the test as described in the Wikipedia links above, and grades were only tracked for a few of the students).
