From MAGA to MAIGA!

I said... There you go...

indianmouse··on Call for blanket ban on open source contribution or publishing
Again, there is no point in arguing with someone who fails to see the viewpoint.

Sometimes it's futile to get into mindless discussions when one takes it to heart and does not think otherwise.

The point which I wanted to make was the collective destruction.

It is funny sometimes how people get hooked onto a single word and then jump to their reply without taking a step or two back to see what is being discussed.

Such unwanted arrogance and public display of anger is of no use in public internet where nameless, faceless entities voice out the thoughts. That clearly shows how short-circuited one's own mindset is...

That being said... Good riddance of such characters... Through AI...

Eventually it will replace everyone and everything... For sure... No one will be spared... No matter how great one thinks he is in coding... It is his knowledge that will be used against him... As simple as it may sound, but that's the reality.

Being a blind-eyed-joe is not going to help and being showing arrogance is of no use!

heh with the attitude..

:-D

indianmouse··on Call for blanket ban on open source contribution or publishing
The same is applicable for bug bounties as well, but that's for another day!
indianmouse··on Call for blanket ban on open source contribution or publishing
Perfectly agree to the mindset.

While I don't care thought process is applicable to the one who has published the code, the same is being used (internally, without giving away any kind of attribution and what not?) by for profit entities to eventually replace the same being.

What I wanted to convey is that if one fails to see the other side of the coin, there is no turning back and it has already progressed / progressing enough to wipe out everyone because of such mindset.

indianmouse··on Ask HN: How to learn CUDA to professional level
That is sufficient.
indianmouse··on Ask HN: How to learn CUDA to professional level
As a very early CUDA programmer who participated in the cudacontest from NVidia during 2008 and I believe one of the only entries (I'm not claiming though) to be submitted from India and got a consolation and participation prize of a BlackEdition Card, I can vouch the method which I followed.

- Look up the CUDA Programming Guide from NVidia

- CUDA Programming books from NVidia from developer.nvidia.com/cuda-books-archive link

- Start creating small programs based on the existing implementations (A strong C implementation knowledge is required. So, brush up if needed.)

- Install the required Toolchains, compilers, and I am assuming you have the necessary hardware to play around

- Github links with CUDA projects. Read the code, And now you could use LLM to explain the code in the way you would need

- Start creating smaller, yet parallel programs etc., etc.,

And in about a month or two, you should have enough to start writing CUDA programs.

I'm not aware of the skill / experience levels you have, but whatever it might be, there are plenty of sources and resources available now than it was in 2007/08.

Create a 6-8 weeks of study plan and you should be flying soon!

Hope it helps.

Feel free to comment and I can share whatever I could to guide.

indianmouse··on Ask HN: Options for One-Handed Typing
Aah!

Just in time...

Though a bit late to the party!!

I'm on the recovery path of my dominant hand boxer's fracture... A month and a few weeks to go yet for the cast removal...

Surprisingly got used to type with two fingers and minimal movement though have to place the external keyboard at an awkward angle.

My 2 cents would be to try out a few existing possibilities before investing heavily on alternates. Sometimes all such just-for-the-time-extensions (or should I call it contraptions?) do not have a useful after life after the utilization or in-need-of period.

I have had many injuries / broken bones (or at least 7 more times! (And please don't judge me based on this. I'm either that clumsy or those were freak incidents...)) and none that were created / acquired to help me out during those restricted movement periods have stayed with me...

Anyways, the mileage may vary... My short advice... Try for sometime (if you could get somethings loaned or borrowed) for a short / extended-short periods and invest...

Tough times and best wishes and speedy recovery to get back on feet and to a healthy normal!

This too shall pass...

indianmouse··on I can’t understand Apple’s Critical Alert policy (2023)
They seem to shoot based on vague reasons. And they don't reason. If it is a no, it is a no.

Time for an alternative app store. It is needed across the world. Single point of failure and control is not good for any ecosystem. Too much dependence on one single entity if one wants to exists in that is really some sh*ty concept.

Break free and break good! EU has to help here...

indianmouse··on Zoho Is Cheating People
I have been contacted by many folks and updating me that the functionality is not yet present on Zoho products.

Probably I should accept that I might have missed the option of going through the gazillion support tickets and sites, (for an expected functionality, which should be existing in the product without a miss!!), and for being dumb, but nothing really matters.

The existing documentation and sites should carry a warning and informational poster notifying the users that the data export and backup option is useless and cannot be used to create or restore a service back to it's original state.

I do not want to hear about using APIs and other integrations as it needs additional time, effort and cost which is not acceptable under any circumstances.

I have been reading support tickets since 8+ years (!!seriously... 8+ years!! Whoa are you kidding Zoho? Don't take the customers for granted or you will cease to exist sooner or later!) with the statement that they don't support importing their own backups =back into their product ecosystem!

This is a missing feature across all zoho products except CRM (Which still doesn't map the exported columns and fields and still clueless about the exported data!), but at least it does have a import option with zoho crm listed...

C'mon folks! That is not that tough considering how much you have grown in the recent years.

indianmouse··on Zoho Is Cheating People
Today I got to know that the data export, backup and import options provided by Zoho on various zoho products is total bummer.

They are totally hideous in masking the detail that

- Any data exported from any zoho product cannot be imported back into the same product (CRM is an exception, but that too throws a lot of mapping errors!)

For example, I wanted to clone the data from Zoho projects and Zoho Books into another Zoho Projects and Books in a totally new paid account and I got to know that they don't support importing of Zoho exported data. I'm totally perplexed and annoyed and feeling let down from such a useless company.

What is the use of having a data export, import and backup option if they cannot support their own products?

Or are they very sure that once a customer moves away from their platform they are not going to comeback again into their ecosystem!

It must be it!

Support chat was enlightening to know that the options do not exist!

My ask is very simple.

If that is the case (let it be and I want to end my relationship with it asap), I need the information published across all data export/import/backup or data administration modules in bold letters and across all Zoho product documentation that any data exported from any Zoho product cannot be used to restore or imported back into the Zoho product. That's all! Anyone from Zoho who could get this across? I'm sure that based on the conversation, they don't give a damn!

(And voices head over the wind states that their internal practices are also very shady and no one knows what they are doing and don't give a damn about customer data or anything sensitive!)

Be very cautious with the company folks!

indianmouse··on AI Guesses Your Accent
It doesn't work. I tried atleast 15 times and it says it has trouble identifying and something not right! Well, There you go! for wasting my time....
indianmouse··on Show HN: Windsurf – Agentic IDE
Totally useless and I'm sure I will not be subscribing to it at any cost.

It gets easily confused and cannot troubleshoot or understand a bit of the environment. It is good for creating one or two html pages or something that can be done within a one or two functions.

Don't expect or depend on it for anything serious. Even for some experienced folks, it is tough to get it do somethings.

Can see how the AI is going to take over the world!

Good for learning though. Sorry for sounding arrogant, but that's the reality.

I've subscriptions for most of the tools, but it's only as good as the user. It'll and can never replace or take over unless the user doesn't want to learn or adopt or become more efficient.

indianmouse··on Leaving and Waving
Me too fellow hacker!
indianmouse··on Leaving and Waving
Dear fellow hacker,

Well, It really doesn't matter where you are and I'm pretty sure you ain't one data center rat! :D

All that matters is how you chop onions and whether you chop it or not!

Fun apart, on a serious note, it did brought tears down the cheek.

And I'm not alone as I could see from many other comments and fellow hackers...

Love from India!

indianmouse··on Leaving and Waving
The most beautiful thing I've ever seen in a very long time!

I could relate to it though there are no photographs, but the memories and the moment are frozen forever! Some can never be replaced or compared against!

Thanks for sharing and bringing a tear drop around the corner of my eyes!

Have a beautiful day!

Love from India!

indianmouse··on Ask HN: Is anyone working at least 4 hours daily on an Apple Vision Pro?
Only for playing games though. I don't own a Vision, but had a meta quest 2 for a short while and used only for playing games. Given it away to a friend who is also using it for playing games or for some VR sims. Nothing more. It gets claustrophobic very easily.
indianmouse··on Is it normal that ALL my phones end up having USB problems?
The cables are also the point of issue. I have changed the charging cable which has resulted in proper charging. And the cleaning of the port. Lint accumulation prevents the contacts being properly connected with the charging pins.

Cleaning of the port using a wooden toothpick (shaven to a right size) and changing of the charging cable as almost always helped me across the 25+ of cell phone usage.

indianmouse··on iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max
Really boring. Phones,,, apart from the actual functionality, Apple devices have started to become really really boring...

One is addiction (deaddiction mindset is becoming a thing) and the next is the fanboism (understandable and unstandable) which actually creates more aversion than anything!

While there is nothing wrong, the price to value justification is a like vampirism and surrounding ecosystem and hardware and specs are fine, but the real value of everything that is present is not realised by everyone.

Honestly people, how many of the actual iphone users even look at the photos taken in the phone after a day or two? probably 0.0001% (who may be pros who wants to make a statement and probably help fuel the hype for the company!) or some professionals who are stuck (sucked into) the ecosystem (for whatever non-debatable and (some good) reasons!). For the rest, it's a pride to own something costly! That's it. There you go... I said it.

It's like I'm owning a device which most people can't afford and I think I'm super and standout, but in reality, it's such a self obsessed and narcissistic feeling and nothing else!

It's their marketing and product placement and business tactics.

I just need a compact phone for making calls and don't want a device which I will proudly show in front of my face wherever and whenever possible... That's really annoying.

Good that I moved away from Apple ecosystem completely and I'm still alive.

Just too much hyped year after year...

That's the case with most manufacturers and just not these guys!

indianmouse··on Launch HN: Firezone (YC W22) – Zero-trust access platform built on WireGuard
Thank you so much. Will check it out and probably create a pull request to add the documentation while I'm implementing it.
indianmouse··on Launch HN: Firezone (YC W22) – Zero-trust access platform built on WireGuard
Second that.

I have tried to use Headscale with Tailscale clients and have been fairly successful in achieving a private P2P VPN. Since I have a lot of spare servers, was able to setup a GUI, Headscale server and configure Tailscale clients across different OS flavors. But it is not for the faint of heart or non-technical folks or for enterprise use. What I have implemented was for personal use and it has it's own pitfalls / troubleshooting stuff which actually consumed a lot of time and effort.

Is there an open source option with Firezone where I could try it out to have a head to head comparison (or if a comparison that already exists) or a guide that could be used for setting up one's own server and client apps for a self-hosted and self-managed solution using Firezone?

Please recommend / respond with the opinion of whether the thought process is worth it? Thanks.

indianmouse··on CrowdStrike Update: Windows Bluescreen and Boot Loops
Ha ha! Good one! This is a save!

Wishes for a speedy recovery to your mom!

I hope no one uses such single point of failure systems anymore. Especially CS. The same is applicable for Cloudflare as well! But at least, the systems will be functioning standalone and accessible in their case and could cause only netwide outage! (i.e., if the CF infra goes down!)

Anyways, who knows what is going to happen with such widespread vendor dependency?

The world gets reminded about the Supply Chain Attacks every year which is a good (but a scary) one that definitely needs some deep thinking...

Up for it?

indianmouse··on Ask HN: Anybody else back on Laravel/PHP after 12 years of Express/Django/Flask?
I have heard dreaded comments from *JS ecosystem users that the packages go to unmaintained state and there is just too much noise in the ecosystem. Very few packages thrive and live for longer periods... and eventually results in a lot of rewrites for newer engine support.

Also, does it add to a non-maintainable code (or result in a complete rewrite) in a period of six months to one year?

I don't code much of web apps as I'm a system's guy who still code in C where the created programs are running fine across OS versions without dependencies and many have crossed decades of use without resulting in any security issues.

Most of them are for security and system's utility purposes and does some complex work on media and security pipelines.

Also, many hours have gone into making them secure from the general RUST / GoLang fortification offering perspective as I am against using RUST or GoLang as I have got some experiences with them on the long term maintainability and support.

Some of the created programs run fine with OSes older since the early day's of SUSE to the modern rolling versions of Linux (and almost all versions of Windows since Windows NT till date) without any modifications. It cannot be guaranteed with RUST or GoLang or with any other stack other than C...

Sorry for the deviation though!

indianmouse··on DIY Book Scanner
Thanks and really appreciate it.

But none of them are available or selling it currently.

Also, the forum looks dead / defunct.

No noticeable activity on any thread! Sad to see such a vibrant community gone extinct.

I know it is not an active area unlike other DIY and the requirements are also very low. But still....!

indianmouse··on DIY Book Scanner
Is there a kit that can be bought online?

I may not have the time and energy to do a DIY, but have an immediate requirement to procure one. Any leads / directions / websites would be really appreciated.

Thank you!

indianmouse··on Show HN: YouTube banned adblockers so I built an extension to skip their ads
Looks like YouTube is already detecting this or has some logic to detect that the ads were played at a different speed.

Try moving through a video when this extension is active and you can see that the advertisement is getting active for almost every possible forward / reverse time selection on the video timeline.

It is just too many blank screens and though it saves a couple of seconds in the actual advertisement watching space, it does provide an unpleasant experience of watching the black screen for a few seconds.

I can live with that (and most should be!), but wanted to record this observation so that it get's to the developer's attention for improvements (if possible!)

Hope it helps.

indianmouse··on Apple has a memory problem and we're all paying for it
And yet they become obsolete in a couple of years of time unlike the likes of other products like say for example, ThinkPads.

It's a forced and planned obsolescence and nothing else.

All the required cost for the product and support is already included in the product cost as it being costly compared to its competitors. All other stuff that they do around it is pure marketing and projection to make people believe and have that sense of something super duper is being offered to them which doesn't exist and is unique.

While some of is acceptable, but majority of it is useless or not used or used once or twice in it's lifetime. Except for some professionals.

Just swindling people of their hard earned monies...

indianmouse··on Apple has a memory problem and we're all paying for it
Ugh! Apple and it's fanbois!

It's useless to argue against and pure waste of time. Don't but their products and don't argue. They are just another greedy, dominating corporate. Nothing more, nothing less. It's how they project in people's mind is good they are. All other stuff of innovation, fantastic product etc etc is just pure marketing gimmick. Nothing works beyond a few years and one still needs to upgrade. Take a ThinkPad and throw it in dust and it still functions even after 12 - 13 yrs with the latest upgraded OS support.

Can anyone show a single apple product that exists? Oh no! They don't have any product that had so much life or upgrade ability since apple sucks cash from time to time from their beloved fanbois!

And yet folks compare it against other products missing the core discussion here about the mind altering behaviour and how apple drives the consumer base while commanding a premium for the silliest of the silly feature or upgrade. That's the command they've over the ecosystem and once one gets caught, there's no turning back.

It's like Hotel California. You can check in anytime, but you can never leave and you pay with your soul.

indianmouse··on Ask HN: Is Samsung phones created according to a planned obsolescence schedule?
Yep. The quality used to be good, but not anymore.

Instead of trying to fix it, I have traded the phone (got a low value exchange offer) for an OnePlus Nord CE Lite.

I don't want to spend my time with Samsung as it is not worth it.

I value my precious time more than the poor quality Samsung device and made a vouch that I will never use their products again.

Thanks for the time in replying to the thread.
