indeyets··on PostgresJs: PostgreSQL client for Node.js and Deno
+1. I’m a happy user of slonik for several years. Zod integration is very useful

indeyets··on Fine-tune your own Llama 2 to replace GPT-3.5/4
The plan was to do it in-house. And buying 8xA100 is a bit too much ;)
indeyets··on Fine-tune your own Llama 2 to replace GPT-3.5/4
What are hardware requirements for larger models? What can I fine-tune on Nvidia A100? Will it be possible to work with 70b for example?
indeyets··on Removing garbage collection from the Rust language (2013)
F# probably?
indeyets··on Show HN: I built a multiplayer Gameboy
So, there's no actual device, right? It's not a gameboy, but a custom web-ui for emulator
indeyets··on Bcrypt at 25
Is it verified, peer-reviewed? I can't find much about it

indeyets··on GitHub incident: ongoing issues with Actions, Issues and other Git operations
"Actions, Issues" are not "Git operations".

would sound better without "other" in title

indeyets··on I'm never investing in Google's smart home ecosystem again
That is an art-project, not the only option. Normal options work just fine too :)
indeyets··on I'm never investing in Google's smart home ecosystem again
The author mentioned they would be moving towards local smart-home solution but doesn’t mention HomeAssistant even once

indeyets··on 5G Rollout Disappointments
You mean Swedes? ;)
indeyets··on Build your own private WireGuard VPN with PiVPN
that's oversimplification. raw socks5 is a low-level thing without encryption.

shadowsocks puts a solid cryptolayer on top of it, designed specifically to be hard to detect. its Chinese origin gives a hint here: it is created to circumvent detection by "great firewall"

outline builds a user-friendly toolset on top of it

indeyets··on Build your own private WireGuard VPN with PiVPN
that's "shadowsocks"

wireguard is fingerprintable. it's trivial to look at packets and see "this is wireguard". and block the packets

Outline traffic looks much more like noise (pre-shared keys, lack of handshake, …)

indeyets··on Build your own private WireGuard VPN with PiVPN
WireGuard/Tailscale are fine if you don't need to deal with state-wide censorship. They might be blocked quite easily.

Outline/Shadowsocks has better chances to keep working (though it is not a true vpn, more like a private proxy) https://getoutline.org/

GDPR doesn't care about where people are located right now. From the GDPR point of view you still have to treat EU-residents in a special way, even if they're located in US right now.

But EU has less of the leverage if company refuses to do business in EU — that's true.

on the other hand, CCPA is still a thing

indeyets··on TypeScript 5.0
Flow was (and still is) awesome as a concept, but its main problem was that it felt as a side-project, which was supported for internal Facebook cases, but not really for open-source. TypeScript (back then) was a simpler language, but had a lot more manpower, which resulted in faster bug-fixes and more coverage of libraries.

If Flowtype had more resources from Facebook it could still be the dominating language

indeyets··on Text Is All You Need
An obvious counter-argument is that people invent themselves daily, telling stories about their imaginary selves which they themselves start to believe. And, overall, the border between "being someone" and "playing role" is very vague
indeyets··on AI Commits – a CLI that writes your commit messages for you
I prefer to have both. First line — a short summary of changes, further lines telling reasons and relevant comments
indeyets··on Diff Models – A New Way to Edit Code
they absolutely do. those might be different regulations, but there are some. and there're import control and certifications.

and most of all, there's reputation. it still works

indeyets··on Diff Models – A New Way to Edit Code
not really

If current code has Q=0.1, "AI" has Q=0.3 and "person who monitors" has Q=0.02 end result might still be better. It's not a simple multiplication of coefficients there. Better baseline would pull result higher

indeyets··on Diff Models – A New Way to Edit Code
There's a good chance this will produce BETTER code than "eligible" low-grade coders which do this now. You're overly optimistic about them
indeyets··on Diff Models – A New Way to Edit Code
You imply, that such tools would lead to lower quality of code. I actually hope for the opposite.

This is not a tool for generating applications using statistical methods (we have a lot of tools which do that already), but a tool for assisting human persons by taking boring/repetitive tasks from them and letting us focus on the meaning, the goal

indeyets··on Diff Models – A New Way to Edit Code
I think it might be compared of "cook it yourself" kits of ingredients. Good base but you can alter to your liking
indeyets··on Diff Models – A New Way to Edit Code
Well, these are not tools for the art-level programming. But it helps to improve productivity of commercial programming a lot. Different genre

I use both. Sometimes it feels easier to write five words of text than starting to write code.
indeyets··on Diff Models – A New Way to Edit Code
So, it is loosely the same as copilot? I understand that approach is a tad different, but result of converting natural language descriptions into code-changes should be comparable.

And both are trained on large corpus of github sources

Is there a way to test it somehow? Public API maybe?
