imaginenore··on SpaceX: Making Life Multiplanetary [video]
He addressed this. You can make methane from CO2 and water, so it can be carbon-neutral.
imaginenore··on SpaceX: Making Life Multiplanetary [video]
I wish the government gave them tens of billions of dollars instead of the military. Even NASA's progress is laughable compared to SpaceX, and NASA gets $18 billion a year.
imaginenore··on XSS Attack Embedded in an ERC20 Token Contract Steals Thousands
This blows my mind. These programmers can implement quite complex contacts-financial-exchanges on top of a quite complex distributed system, but then fail to sanitize user input in their web interface. It makes no sense.
imaginenore··on 68% of total Ethereum transaction value controlled by one system
You can assume all you want, but then you can end up with thousands of tainted addresses that participated in tumbling. Good luck proving anything with that to the jury.
imaginenore··on CBS's Showtime caught mining crypto-coins in viewers' web browsers
We iframed all the ads after a few of them f###ed with our website. It's not needed if you work with AdSense, but we had multiple vendors and private deals, custom ads of all kinds.

imaginenore··on 68% of total Ethereum transaction value controlled by one system
No. If wallets A and B send 1ETH each to Z, and then Z sends 1ETH to X and 1ETH to Y, you already can't tell whose money is where.
imaginenore··on The Best Investment Since 1926? Apple
No way. Bitcoin.
imaginenore··on PixelNN – Example-Based Image Synthesis
It almost looks like they mixed training and testing data in some of the examples. The bottom-left sample in the normals-to-faces is extremely suspicions.
imaginenore··on iPhone 8 Plus: The best smartphone camera we’ve ever tested
Have you tried A7s with a f1.4 lens?

Most people who only photograph with phones, even high end ones, don't seem to realize that similar gains happen in the camera sensors as well. And them being always much larger, they will always be ahead in low light and in signal/noise ratio.

imaginenore··on Inception Drive: A Compact, Infinitely Variable Transmission for Robotics
It's clever. But so many moving parts, and doesn't look very sturdy, nor efficient.
imaginenore··on Bitcoin Is Likely to Split Again in November, Say Major Players
By that definition dollar is not a currency in China.

You have to realize that there are many currencies, and they all have their niches. Bitcoin is just one of them.

imaginenore··on Bitcoin has died 166 times, so far
These properties are not mutually exclusive. But desirability is a required one for a good currency.

I agree that those other properties are important too.

imaginenore··on Bitcoin Is Likely to Split Again in November, Say Major Players
Don't think of it as a split. A fork is a new creation with new properties and new value, made to solve certain problems. It doesn't multiply anything, it's a new entity. Just because they both have "bitcoin" in the name, doesn't make it the same. Quite the opposite, actually, they are competing.
imaginenore··on Bitcoin Is Likely to Split Again in November, Say Major Players
Define "legitimate source of money".
imaginenore··on Consciousness Goes Deeper Than We Think
"Self-sufficient" is not a good argument. Most people are not self-sufficient when it comes to survival on their own. Just look at the history - as soon as mass-produced food is cut off, famines kill hundreds of thousands, millions sometimes.

I used to support abortion, but more and more I'm sliding towards being maybe against it, because (some of) the anti-abortion side arguments are logical too. No matter how you draw the line based on some argument, you can use the same logic to kill adults. That includes viability, lack of pain, etc.

On the other hand, our technology is at the level where you can turn any cell in your body into sperm:

https://phys.org/news/2016-04-scientists-skin-cells-human-sp...

So if you're against abortion based on the "viability", every time you scratch your nose, you commit genocide.

It's a hard question.

imaginenore··on Bitcoin has died 166 times, so far
It proves it's a desired one. Which is a very important quality for a currency.
imaginenore··on Central bank cryptocurrencies
I welcome it. It will make the flow of fiat into good cryptocurrencies so much easier. Let the better system win. Monopolies are almost never good.
imaginenore··on Is There a Cryptocurrency Bubble? Just Ask Doge
You should look into Zimbabwean dollars, Russian ruble, Venezuelan bolivar history. No amount of government intervention will help to keep the value once the population loses faith in the currency. Even if you start giving away gold bars for each unit of currency, you will quickly end up with no gold bars and lots of worthless paper. If you restrict the supply of currency, people quickly invent their own money, which you don't control.

EDIT:

And people will happily pay for goods and tolls with worthless paper, but your demand to accept dollars and fix the prices has one outcome: empty shelves and lots of people in prison (because how else do you enforce dumb demands?). Both were tried in Venezuela and USSR with the same result.

imaginenore··on Blender 2.79 released
For those who are new to Blender, the absolutely coolest part of Blender is that it's fully programmable. Anything you can do through the UI, you can do with Python method calls.

You can create, modify and render scenes from the command line only, no GUI needed.

imaginenore··on The Efficacy of Reddit’s 2015 Ban Examined Through Hate Speech [pdf]
You realize you keep getting the name wrong? The phrase literally means "the things that fat people hate".

I would completely agree with you if the sub was named IHateFatPeople or FatPeopleSuck.

imaginenore··on The Efficacy of Reddit’s 2015 Ban Examined Through Hate Speech [pdf]
And again you're confusing making fun of with hatred.

I can make fun of my wife and my kids and my friends, call them funny names. It doesn't mean I hate them.

imaginenore··on Chatbot lets you print lawsuit forms for suing Equifax for up to $25k
$25K is not a small claim in any of the states, is it?
imaginenore··on The Efficacy of Reddit’s 2015 Ban Examined Through Hate Speech [pdf]
That's the thing, you're fighting the straw man, "evil ways" is your invention. Wrong and unhealthy and costly ways is what I'd say.

I'd say that tactic (criticisms and making fun of) worked in many instances.

imaginenore··on The Efficacy of Reddit’s 2015 Ban Examined Through Hate Speech [pdf]
You're confusing making fun / criticisms of with hatred. Fat acceptance movement is absolutely batshit insane, it promotes unhealthy lifestyles, it causes early deaths, it costs billions of dollars, it increases everyone's insurance costs.

I'm yet to see anything of scale on reddit/voat that represents hate of fat people, and not of the lifestyle or the dumb ideas that the movement comes up with.

imaginenore··on With a $1k Price, Apple’s iPhone Crosses a Threshold
I have no idea what people do with $800+ phones. I'm on Nexus 5X (<$180), and it's perfectly fine, the camera is great, apps run just fine.

I doubt most of these people are doing phone based VR and play high end phone games.

imaginenore··on At Google, Employee-Led Effort Finds Men Are Paid More Than Women
They know men will work longer hours, so it makes sense to offer more.
imaginenore··on At Google, Employee-Led Effort Finds Men Are Paid More Than Women
This is useless, if you don't control for factors other than sex. Men tend to work longer hours, take fewer sick days.

Education and extra-curricular activities don't seem to be taken into account, which can easily explain the gap in the lower tiers.

imaginenore··on Cryptographic vulnerabilities in IOTA
Where did I say "this is not part of the fundamental analysis you should do"?

My only point is that >50% attacks by the people involved are purely theoretical. Attacks by almost any state are the end of your project. A billion dollars is enough to DDoS pretty much everything.

imaginenore··on Cryptographic vulnerabilities in IOTA
Almost any state is capable of spending a few billion dollars and making a >50% attack (assuming they can buy enough ASICs), no matter how good your crypto is. There are much cheaper ways to bring something like Bitcoin to its knees. DDoS the nodes for a year, for instance.
