This type of tone only reduces the quality of HN. :(
There are more quality books written in the last 100 years than you'll ever finish. There are high quality magazines like Lapham's Quarterly. Even weekly magazines like The Economist have a marked increase in quality compared to daily news or social media.
My point here is, do you really need to know what big thing happened every single hour? If it's so important, you'll come to know of it anyways. It's okay to let time filter out the low quality stuff and then consume the high quality stuff instead.
On a sidenote, git itself can also get painfully slow with large monorepos. Hope GitHub can push some changes there as well.
I know FB moved off git to mercurial because of performance issues.
I work on listenbrainz.org [0] by the MetaBrainz Foundation [1]. We use Python, React, Spark and a bunch of other stuff. I'm happy to help you get started with one of MetaBrainz's projects if you want. My email is in my profile.
It was my first foray into actual work on large code bases, at a point of time when no company was ready to hire me.
I can imagine a world without Google Summer of Code and it's not one I'd like living in. Thanks, gsoc team!
If it prevented a data leak or a security incident, I'd argue that it did actually provide value to your users.
At some point, you have to do the non-trendy infrastructure work, skyscrapers aren't built with bricks.
My email is me [at] param.codes.
I'm trying to build something that helps people organise their job search better with better stats and insights. Right now, we have a kanban board for all your job applications and a sankey diagram for state changes.
Doing business in a federal democracy comprised of diverse states and population like India and a top down controlled economy like China has different implications, no matter what. There is a very valid case for India improving conditions for people to do business there, but even if those things happen, the value proposition will still be different when compared to China and in the end, at some point, a compromise to profits will have to be made in favour of values.
China's policies of suppression won't work in any place where people have more freedom. In the end, companies will need to eat the increased costs of working in an environment where people can protest mistreatment and wage slavery. The alternative is bowing to China and letting human rights violations slide for the increase in profits.
Either subscribe to a bunch of them, one for each world view, or just classify reddit as a flawed news source and move on to something better.
We also have a Spotify importer that automatically imports stuff from Spotify, if you use Spotify, I would definitely recommend setting that up.
We're a really small team (all volunteers), so we don't move with as much urgency as I'd like to, but we've been making slow but steady progress over the years.
If you find any rough edges, or have any feedback, I'd be happy to hear, my email is in the HN profile. :)
Another thing that's not mentioned in the post but was a pain point for us was that it's not easy to query for fields with "null" values [1].
I figure a lot of our pain might be because we're not as good at Influx as we are at PostgreSQL. We've been running MusicBrainz[2] for ~18 years on PostgreSQL, that knowledge will hopefully transfer over a little with Timescale.

I'm not agreeing with the grandfather comment, but there are "post-meritocracy" movements[0] in the world that fall more in line with the opinion that meritocracy as a concept is flawed.

I remember the first time I was flying to the US, I was adviced by multiple people in the days leading up to the flight, to get rid of my beard, because it made me look Muslim. From all the stories, it's probably a good precaution to take. Stuff like this and complying to authority in a polite way even though all human instinct tells you to be pissed is normal.
