ihatepython··on Microbiologist Investigates After Her Beef Soup Turned Blue in the Fridge
It's probably due to climate change.

Instead of Beef Soup, she should be eating Insect Soup. Most likely, it wouldn't have turned blue.

ihatepython··on Were React hooks a mistake?
I would argue 'not exactly'.

Technically, React was the mistake. Eliminating React would prevent React hooks from existing in the first place.

ihatepython··on GPT-4 is coming next week – and it will be multimodal, says Microsoft Germany
> The fact that AI requires so much data does make me think that we are somehow on the wrong track.

I know the entire AI industry on the wrong track, but there's nothing that can be done about it. Sometimes you just have to wait for the crash and burn, and then things can change. It's like being at the ocean and trying to stop a wave from crashing after it has already formed, you just have to let it resolve itself of its own volition. As Einstein said, stupidity is infinite.

ihatepython··on AI is making it easier to create more noise, when all I want is good search
> Everyday I’m using Google search less and less, while using ChatGPT more and more.

> It’s pretty rare that I want to find a website or document. Most of the times I want an answer or a solution, and ChatGPT is so much better at that than google.

It seems P. T. Barnum was correct, There's a sucker born every minute.

When I'm searching, I don't want an answer. I'm looking for the truth, which is probably buried somewhere.

At this point, my biggest fear with "AI" is ChatGPT-powered Customer Service agents.

ihatepython··on Linus Torvalds on Word-Wrapping Git Commit Messages
It is pleasant to read in a terminal, and on my desktop browser.

I have to agree with Linus on this one.

ihatepython··on Linus Torvalds on Word-Wrapping Git Commit Messages
He's from Finland. Relative to other Finns, he is extremely nice.

Try watching the video with the Finnish guy and the bear on Youtube, I won't tell you who ends up winning.

ihatepython··on Ask HN: Why are PDFs still heavily used?
Web standards don't fix any of the problems.

I hate reading web pages on my phone. PDFs are far superior, especially on tablet.

ihatepython··on EVs are far cleaner than gas-powered cars even if batteries require more mining
> They're cleaner, no doubt. But are they clean enough that a 1-1 replacement could avert massive ecological destruction à la global warming? No they are not.

This is the main reason why I sold my Tesla and went back to my horse and buggy.

ihatepython··on O’Reilly urges world to get ready for a red-hot summer of AI
I think chatgpt will cause a LOT more problems than it will solve.

One problem is that the average person thinks it is good. From a technical view I don't see anything interesting, it is garbage in garbage out. It depends on the quality of the training data.

ihatepython··on Why am I not terrified of AI?
I'm terrified of AI for the same reason the movie 'Idiocracy' scares the shit out of me
ihatepython··on Atlassian to shed 5 per cent of workers

ihatepython··on Rust Is the Future of JavaScript Infrastructure (2021)
Perhaps the Rust toolchain can be fixed by rewriting it in Javascript?
ihatepython··on Rust Is the Future of JavaScript Infrastructure (2021)
Writing everything in Rust and compiling to wasm will probably set it back a bit more
ihatepython··on Rust Is the Future of JavaScript Infrastructure (2021)
Obfuscation? Job security?
ihatepython··on After Dark Screensavers in CSS
Lol that has been there forever. All links from HN get redirected to that page. I believe it checks HTTP_REFERER.

You have to type the url manually. That jwz is a funny guy

ihatepython··on AmigaOS 3.2
How much does a Raspberry Pi cost nowadays? Are they readily available?
ihatepython··on Ask HN: How did you rebuild yourself after having hit rock bottom?
I would ignore the comments that tell you it's not rock bottom. They won't be satisfied unless you are near-death at the bottom of the ocean.

My advice is, watch the episode of Seinfeld where George Costanza does the opposite. If every instinct he has is wrong, then the opposite must be right.

ihatepython··on Embracing “Old” Tech
I feel like I'm the only person who thinks Git is terrible. I hate using it.
ihatepython··on Ask HN: Has anyone started over outside of tech?
> Could be anything.

How about something like woodworking?

ihatepython··on Why Python keeps growing, explained
This isn't really programming though. This is just calling out to seaborn and pandas with an unpleasant interface (Python).
ihatepython··on Why Python keeps growing, explained
Don't forget about FORTRAN
ihatepython··on Ask HN: My company revoked a couple of job offers. What should I do?
I realize that you are European, but if you don't like your job, you don't quit. You just go in every day and do it really half-assed. That's the American way.
ihatepython··on Objects Have Failed (2002)
Those products don't need to be complex, at their heart they are actually rather simple. They are just written in such a way that they become unnecessarily complex, because they are poorly understood.

I would argue that the examples you give don't work well (Windows, Android, Chrome, later versions of iOS). They get worse and worse over time. Even if they start out with a good design, it turns to crap eventually.

Just because a piece of software is used by billions doesn't mean that it is well written.

ihatepython··on Moscow Metro launches longest metro circle line
You realize that the Nazis still exist and are Ukrainian, right?
ihatepython··on Moscow Metro launches longest metro circle line
You should do some research on the Ukrainian Nazis. This war is not what the media portrays
ihatepython··on Moscow Metro launches longest metro circle line
Ever consider that you are on the wrong side of history? The media told you to hate Putin so you hate Putin?

By taking the other side, that means you are pro-Nazi?

What is wrong with advocating for peace?

ihatepython··on FreeBSD Home Audio Studio
You're better off running Snow Leopard on an old mac mini for pro audio, unless you really just want to play with FreeBSD (you'll spend more time configuring your system rather than making music)
ihatepython··on X12: Requirements for a successor to the X11 protocol (2013)
I'd like to see Wayland be integrated as part of systemd. It would make things much cleaner
ihatepython··on Daniel Stenberg and the home of curl in Stockholm, Sweden
It says the desk is homemade, but it looks like a standard Ikea desk
ihatepython··on Man stabbed by fellow Microsoft employee
