igleria··on Microsoft blocks Israel’s use of its tech in mass surveillance of Palestinians
Not sure about that. To many companies or individuals, it might make them choose another provider. Unless... they already are Azure customers, in which case they might probably want to avoid the cost of moving from a cloud provider
igleria··on Everything that's wrong with Google Search in one image
Jaja, dijo caca!

ontopic: This debacle started way earlier than when google decided that the "don't be evil" motto was to be removed, methinks.

igleria··on U.S. already has the critical minerals it needs, according to new analysis
When time came for my incapacitated-by-stroke father to move after we sold the family house to his new apartment, he did exactly this:

> they want to evaluate every single item

I almost gave up on him and only resumed when he was literally crying for me to come back. Did not regret coming back.

When he died 5 years later, my poor mother needed WEEKS to throw away all the useless shit he had accumulated in his apartment. Then I did regret not being harsher on him, but he was mentally and physically ill.

To anyone reading this: You are not the only one being hurt when you are a hoarder. Let people help you.

igleria··on NASA finds Titan's lakes may be creating vesicles with primitive cell walls
Dunno about everyone else, but if that is the origin of everything that lives on this planet, I'd find relief. One less question in an ever increasing sea of questions is better than just an ever increasing sea of questions.
igleria··on Truco and clones: the beginnings of Argentinian computer gaming
I'm still thinking on how to translate "esta relampajeando" to english, lol.
igleria··on Truco and clones: the beginnings of Argentinian computer gaming
Ariel Arbiser was a teacher of mine at college, quite an interesting character! Very knowledgeable about compilers too. And yes, I did play his version of Truco in the previous century/millennia.

Truco is such a great game <3

> LLMs have a lot of advantages over humans for making conversation.

A lot of those advantages seem to be what enables an LLM to keep pushing people into delusion or triggering latent mental issues : https://www.psychologytoday.com/ie/blog/urban-survival/20250...

igleria··on 'Ad Blocking Is Not Piracy' Decision Overturned by Top German Court
I know that technically you can configure your torrent client to disconnect if by some reason the vpn connection dropped, but I was so paranoid about f*ing it up that I just accepted defeat. I think living there for 4 and a half years really changed me (still waiting on red lights while on foot even if the street is dead at 3 AM, for example).
igleria··on 'Ad Blocking Is Not Piracy' Decision Overturned by Top German Court
A little bit tangential but: I hated while living in Germany that some movies were legally available ONLY with german dubs. While making the only alternative, piracy... risky.
igleria··on AI is predominantly replacing outsourced, offshore workers
> personally believe we are already beyond the point where electoral politics can solve this issue and a violent resolution is inevitable.

I do think more or less this too, but it could be 4 years or 40 before people get mad enough. And to be honest the tech gap between civilian violence and state sponsored violence has never been wider. OR in other words, civilians don't have reaper drones etc etc.

igleria··on What does Palantir actually do?
> Well, my Palantir interview information was about "networks of people that need to be tracked"... all Muhammads, Omars etc.

I can't begin to describe how sick this makes me feel. At the same time, I'm happy that your upbringing resulted in you making the right choice of not pursuing such a horrible company.

I on the other hand was contacted by Helsing, which at the time sounded cool to me (????) (secret agent vibes???). The recruiter however failed to appear at the screening call 2 or 3 times, which I interpreted as a strategy on their part to select for persistence/yes-men (Occam's razor on the other hand is that the recruiter was overworked and/or shitty).

I told the recruiter off.

Only after a while I realized that it really, really was not a good thing that I even considered working for a company that in the end just kills people for money (I know, european defense yadda yadda). I have enough trouble sleeping as it is.

I really want to send a virtual hug to Tarus and you. Reminds me of one of the few reasons I'm still in this industry... solving real problems that real people have.

> I find it interesting how marketers are trying to make minimal prompting a good thing

They do that because IMHO the average person seems to prefer something to be easy, rather than correct.

igleria··on Treating beef like coal would make a big dent in greenhouse-gas emissions
Pricing people out of things means only rich people can afford those things. The same rich people that on an individual level generate a lot more emissions than the average person.

Tough sell.

igleria··on Restructuring Announcement
klarna allowed us to buy our work phone and macbook paying only the tax value. We had to give them the devices so they would be wiped out by a third party, then they mailed them to my home.
igleria··on AI will change the world but not in the way you think
These are not set in stone and if a dream company comes may be overruled, but:

At least one or more of the following MUST be true:

- Take home takes 2 hours or less

- Take home has a posterior instance that will take place with a human being in order to allow me to defend/discuss/expand the take home. Of course this assumes I eliver something that is not just the word "farts" in a txt.

- Take home is monetarily compensated.

These are heuristics that do not imply I am an impressive IC or something like that. It's just self defense.

igleria··on AI will change the world but not in the way you think
I actually got a very similar automatic response to a take home (that I spent 12 hours of my time on) for an interview process. Some feedback was good, but other feedback was not (one example: The feedback mentions not enforcing a Node version, while such enforcement was in the package.json file). That combined with the formatting made me realize that it was either a 100% copy paste output based on some prompts, maybe tuned two or three words without checking for factuals.

A very distressing experience that prompted me to change how I approach take home assignments.

igleria··on How I accepted myself into Canada's largest AI hackathon
Gives the impression of it being by design: They want talent but only for so long, they don't want the talent to "overstay their welcome" thus they complicate things, like not allowing the spouse to work

igleria··on Gemma 3 Technical Report [pdf]
> The Gemma 3 models are multimodal—processing text and images—and feature a 128K context window with support for over 140 languages.

I'm curious as a multilingual person: would a single language (english/spanish/cantonese) allow for the model to be bigger and still fit in a single GPU?

igleria··on Gemma 3 Technical Report [pdf]
