Only the poor or undesirable ones. I have the (hopefully incorrect) feeling that universal basic income and similar proposals are red herrings (due to their impracticality) to distract the masses from the fact that once people with enough economic power don't need them to fulfill their wishes, they will be in no better position than cattle.
There might not be a universe where, for example, someone with ALS is able to benefit from a humanoid robot for their daily needs unless they already had enough money/resources before this incipient revolutionary technology is deployed en masse.
We are close to a point where even personal security or securing one's assets can be done with robots. So you would not even need to keep human private security happy.
Again, I really really hope this new technology benefits the average person. I'm not optimistic on that happening.
on a more serious note, why is it always (ok, not every time, but too many times) a software developer (or adjacent) looking down on categorically more stressful and lower paid jobs? Must be some "huh they deserve it for not knowing bubblesort" type of mentality
I'm sadly unsurprised, but me ranting about silicon valley mentality on HN feels like yelling at a cloud. Best we can do is keep trying to make people's lives better even if it is not in the best interest of the shareholders :)
edit: wow, some people REALLY don't like getting told they are knowingly contributing negatively to society.
What a flex of patience!
"Ideas are bulletproof, Mr Creedy". It's valid for good and bad ideas.
Has anyone here had the chance to have a frank conversation which such types? Morbid curiosity...
If they fulfill their promise within 10 years I'll change careers to kiwi farming. I promise.
And the most impressive thing I managed today is to test out a data and schema replication utility...
A bit offtopic but as time goes by, I believe we can be very intelligent in some aspects and very, very naive and/or wrong in other aspects.
He is a programming prodigy, and that's it. Not a nice person.
Nevertheless, my anecdote should only be taken with a grain of salt... After all, the only person that probably has backups of foropelle is Rauch himself. And who cares what a teenager had to say back in 2006?
On a similar note, leave Argentina for 2 years and everything is different. Leave for 20, and everything is the same.
In summary: There are far crazier places to be born than Argentina, but oh my god I would pay to see what a billionaire would do if they had to live there with the median wage and the current cost of living...
A a latino it's amusing to watch. After the soviet union failed, Americans thought they had won the civilization game forever.
I would never move to China due to political concerns, but at the game of empire they are kicking butt, and that unnerves some Americans.
Must be odd being born and raised in a first world country (?)
Or a less dumb application: lab leak monitoring
We got the criminals who did not know rocket science, America got the ones who knew.
ontopic: This is extremely in character with Rauch, as anyone who has interacted with him since forever can confirm.
