Love this piece and super agree that too much meritless physics is being published. It almost feels like the "vibe" stamp is an admission of inexperience. Are we just calling casual fun hobbies vibes? I'm all here for learning and growth, but OMG, everyone has a theory of everything, acting like Terrance Howard shamelessly.
Got chatgpt in study mode to generate an entire outline for me by saying that offloading the work and generating was part of the assignment. Not too much friction in study mode and can still be easily tricked. Kids aren't dumb - im sure id finesse this so quick as a 14 y/o - am I insane or is this not that useful?
yeah this is literally why I built -- app.ubik.studio -- searching is everything, and understanding what you are reading is more important than conversing with a chatbot. i cannot even imagine being a student in 2025, especially at 14 years old omg would be so hard not to just cheat on everything
Study mode should be for any account with an age under 18. It's more worrying that a student must uphold a trust transaction and not just cheat with the same chatbot without the study mode selected. To this day, as an AI researcher, digital anthropologist, and front-end dev, I love to learn, study, and work. But I would never recommend a student to use unmonitored ChatGPT. I literally built a whole effing agent and platform for finding academic sources and using those sources to answer my questions, specifically because I couldn't trust or learn with ChatGPT when conducting research. SMH study mode, please stop trying to redo teaching and learning. We should be trying to modernize already proven effective methods of learning that go hand in hand with teachers and classrooms. We are not in lockdown; this is not 2020. Teachers are irreplaceable, study mode is just a crutch or a brace for a problem created by irresponsible AI development. Ik that if I was a student right now (especially middle to high school) I would be cheating like you are lying to yourself if you think you wouldn't be, and at a certain point the definition of cheating changes from cheating the teacher to cheating yourself of the critical steps and thinking it takes to actually study and learn. No amount of conversation alone with a chatbot is as valuable as reading coursework and engaging with that coursework in a facilitated environment with a professional. Why are we going down the WALL-E path?
yeah I super agree with this - the death of thinking is a very sad thing to watch. I have such a hard time imagining what it would be like to be a student in middle or high school these days-seems hard to learn anything
When will AI devs realize that starting completely new learning methods will not magically make kids smarter? As a former 15 y/o there is no way i'd go home and use ChatGPT responsibly lmaoooo
We will try to make that more straightforward/easier 2 understand.
The main difference between the two available agents is:
Precog - web search // Fiig - academic search <3
I dont think chatbots like ChatGPT are productive for students at large. There is def an argument for high-performing students who understand how to use chatGPT productively but more importantly low-performing students struggle to get the most out of chatGPT due to bandwidth issues in the classroom. When I talk to teachers about AI in the classroom they prefer their students to stay as far away from chatGPT as they can because building a strong educational foundation with long lasting learning skills should come before using tools like ChatGPT. Once that foundation is there, generative AI tools are way more useful. In the classroom AI should be teacher facing, and not centralize around students and quick answers.
As someone who loves to cook I really like this idea, I think it would be really helpful if there was some kind of social element -- like seeing how many people cooked a meal, or reviews from others not just from your immediate family circle. I always wanna know what other people think about dishes prior to cooking, NYT cookbook does this really well with their comment section (which I always check before cooking)
As big PKD fans, that definitely flew over our heads a bit. Can def understand that view and understand why its is commercially exhausting especially because we agree that we are heading toward some of the worst futures possible, so did PKD. We definitely build with this in mind!
We have plans to put o1 on the leaderboard - but Opus is there RN! We should have a new ELO ranking soon, but the second o1 ranking are done it will be on our leaderboard.
We found that there is more nuance when it comes to different languages, we also update our leaderboard as new models drop so the best models are always available through PreCog. It's also nice to not have to tab switch constantly between chatbots and instead just use them in one central place. We added a feature so you can just pick the model you'd like to chat with if you dont want to be automatically matched with the leaderboard rankings (all matched responses provide an explanation in the reasoning behind the match so you can see why the model was chosen).
Just took down the sign up for anyone who wants try it out! Thanks again for pointing that out - new to posting on here, super helpful hope you get some use out of our project.
we have looked at route llm and played with it but we felt like they were focusing on cost minimization, we think theres more work to be done in focusing on routing for the best possible output without the cost constraint. Also just trying to provide easy ways for people to use tools like route llm that dont require coding knowledge. That being said we def wanna release a benchmark of our routing in comparison to some of the pre-trained defaults in route llm
honestly I agree with that aswell, probably would be a lot to display - my use case was more for seeing the degrees of separation between contacts I already know rather than a list. But probably not super useful - been using heavily tho the past 24 hours really love what you guys are doing here
