From digging in the js I think that this has something to do with ab-testing for xkcd store.
Since I'm a Java developer I'm aware to the fact that my js code have no style and is most probably bad :) , I'll be glad hear constructive comments!

But I have to agree, that sadly there is a correlation between the low level of discussion and how political a topic is.

You can't just drop accusations like that without supporting them with, at least, an equally well formed argument.
What puzzle me the most, is the voluntary cooperation of the media with the government. Even if the media does not support this event, how they not cover it at all? sad, I always thought of Turkey as the most successful example of a Muslim democratic state.

It looks as though, some developers are almost insulted by the idea, that someone tried to replace a language that is so commonly accepted, and that they have worked so hard to master.
This also happens in many other fields of science/technology, but I'm always surprised to see it among programmers who are considered very practical people.
