iamclovin··on Development on a Chromebook: an opinionated guide
don't want to put a date on it, but stay tuned :)
iamclovin··on Action.IO: Web Development Server with Full Console, Online IDE and SSH Access
Our homepage is a little outdated (changing soon!) but node boxes are already present! (along with Python and Go)

Edit: I'm one of the guys working on action.io btw

iamclovin··on Meteor 0.5.7 released: major scaling update, new DDP version, EJSON
For folks who'd like to try out Meteor in the browser without any local installs, we just wrote a blog post on how you can do so on Action.IO: http://blog.action.io/2013/02/21/build-meteor-apps-in-the-br...

(Disclosure: I'm one of the guys working on action.io - we're private beta now but sending out invites at a pretty fast clip)

> most people have either no internet or shitty internet outside of their home and work

we think this is a situation of "skating to where the puck is going to be, rather than where it is", but we do have plans to build a bridge between an offline/online dev environment. If you'd like an invite, please email me at arun <at> action <dot> io

Co-Founder of action.io here, we have python, node.js and go boxes already and many more in the pipeline. And in the future, the ability to create your own custom dev environment.

if you'd like an invite, please email me at arun <at> action <dot> io

all the things
iamclovin··on Show HN: Action.io - 0 to Rails in 60 seconds in your browser
The IDE is the first step. Our vision is to provide a set of tools so that your runtime is on the cloud (but can be sync'ed offline) and you can use whatever editor that you're most comfortable with.

You can completely do away with the IDE if you want and Vagrant integration is in our todo list for sure.

P.S. Here's what Mitch (creator of Vagrant) has to say about action.io: https://twitter.com/mitchellh/status/215491864080547840

Fixed, thanks!
iamclovin··on Show HN: Action.io - 0 to Rails in 60 seconds in your browser
Yup! Also on our todo list.

Yes, that's definitely in our pipeline.
iamclovin··on Leaving Instapaper for Readability
Marco previously felt uncomfortable implementing this feature (http://www.marco.org/2011/07/19/siracusa-multipage), so I wonder what prompted the change in policy.
iamclovin··on Elixir: Ruby-like Syntax and Homoiconicity for Erlang VM
Very interesting Jose. Is Elixir used to develop production Erlang systems anywhere?

Somehow I thought this was the rubygems equivalent of PHP rather than the RVM equivalent of PHP. (Disclaimer: Have never used PHP)

Apologies, we'd made some changes to the copy (including the disclaimer) before we pushed to production. My bad.

In our defense we included most of our better-known competitors as well, but the story got buried, so serves me right.

iamclovin··on Show HN: My weekend project githero.es is retired and is now open-source
There are some interesting PG tricks and is a good starting point for people new to Rails 3.1 (with Bootstrap/SASS/CoffeeScript)
iamclovin··on Cedar - BDD Testing for Objective-C
@raingrove's Specta looks promising as well. https://github.com/petejkim/specta
iamclovin··on Startups: Don't Host Your Blog on Tumblr
We recently moved our dev blog (dev.anideo.com) to jekyll + github pages as well, not because of problems with uptime but because gist support is a major pita on Tumblr and we primarily use our blog to post code snippets.
iamclovin··on Poll: Do you use app hosting or run your own server?
We've used the exact same reasoning with our app Denso. The costs will definitely not make sense if/when we hit scale, but in my mind that's a good problem to have. The advantage with Heroku over services such as GAE is that no component of our stack is proprietary (as opposed to the BigTable data store available on GAE) and hence, moving hosting providers is slightly more straightforward.

The Heroku Add-ons marketplace is also a huge competitive advantage that they provide over other services. There are plenty of examples where we've relied on third-party addons to begin with (for e.g. Embedly) but once the costs of using such third-party services increased (due to increased traffic), we switched over to our own hand-made solutions and we were able to bring down costs substantially.

iamclovin··on Designing "Mute"
I agree we've had that problem with our app Denso as well (a video app) - people would complain that videos play but with no sound and almost always it was because people had the device muted.

We eventually shipped an update which ignored the mute setting while video playback.

Woops was a stupid bug, fixed now, thanks!
iamclovin··on Show HN: githero.es - Nominate and Vote for your personal GitHub heroes
Good points - as for criteria - this is just a fun little app we did over New Years weekend to give us coders a way to say thanks to our personal GitHub heroes.

Will fix the form issue.

iamclovin··on Show HN: githero.es - Nominate and Vote for your personal GitHub heroes
Didn't realize that. Fixed now to only have read-only scope.

Edit: Obviously, we aren't going to do anything malicious with your data too, but apologies for the oversight.

iamclovin··on Poll: Which bank does your (US) company use?
Do you use their merchant account services too?
iamclovin··on Saudi prince invests $300 million in Twitter
I find it interesting that a government which allegedly funds terrorism [1] also funds a company which is supposed to be the shining beacon of transparency and a tool which has been crucial to the Arab Spring movements.

Wonder how much of an influence this will have on Twitter's self-censorship.

iamclovin··on Jon Stewart skewers Freemium iOS Games [video]
Apologies for this, there was a bug in our player which didn't enable HTML5 mode. It should work now - do let us know if it doesn't, thanks!
iamclovin··on Jon Stewart skewers Freemium iOS Games [video]
You can view the video from the browser and it doesn't require an app download - if you can't, its probably a bug. Please email us at hello@getdenso.com with your browser/OS details and we'd love to figure out the root cause. Thanks!
iamclovin··on Jon Stewart skewers Freemium iOS Games [video]
Well, promotion is obviously a welcome benefit of sharing something I thought was a very interesting take on the world of social/freemium gaming.

I apologize for the bad experience though - we're still a young service constantly looking to improve and we definitely welcome more feedback - thanks!

edit: You can now enable fullscreen on the player.
