Cursor I think has taken off because it couldn't be easier to try out.
Take out 90% of the windows users from bothering to try the software and that is really going to hurt people talking up the software online.

There is an effort that it takes to get on the airwaves that is not there if just anyone can play music online. The effort acts as a quality filter on the person's taste and passion.
Beyond that, I always check out what Pitchfork thinks is good new music.
The youtube algorithm has also recommended me some of my favorite, more obscure artists but that happens like once every 2-3 years.
I am a product of the 90s also. I was severely depressed all through high school and probably could have been helped in some way.
Instead I got nothing. Just suffered in silence and I didn't even know I was depressed. Any statistics from the 90s on mental health I wouldn't be counted in other than being a mentally healthy, happy, normal kid even though nothing could be further from reality.
I am a terrible programmer but probably could have BSed my way into a jr front end role with enough effort circa 2019.
The reason I didn't is exactly because of right now. I would be unemployed and chasing dev jobs with zero chance of landing.
Instead I was learning Julia today with the help of language models because I can stretch out and explore with not needing a job.
Right now is just the shake out of the pretender software engineers like I would have been.
People like you will be fine. People like me should be doing something else anyway.
What is most incredible to me is even knowing and believing the above, I fall prey to this all the time.
