cool!
humility··on Ask HN: Which book do you want to read next?
Thanks for sharing.
humility··on Chanakya
The parent comment actually encompasses this - there was no 'unified' India before Alexander visited, but there was the semblance of one once he left since Chanakya 'envisioned' a common thread running across the region and made arrangements to unite it under a single flag.
humility··on Chanakya
Yeah it's a gross simplification. At that time India was fragmented into small kingdoms, and Alexander just defeated a western kingdom before marching around.
humility··on Chanakya
Interestingly enough he became politically active after India's defeat at the hands of Alexander the Great, and aided in creating an empire that unified the whole of India, which was unprecedented until then.

Kudos, amazing effort!
humility··on Ask HN: How to stop anxiety from too many choices?
Courage. Just make a choice and stick with it.

Remind yourself of a time when you were down/outgunned yet you came on top of the situation.

If the much less experienced past you could overcome a fall, the current you most assuredly can.

humility··on Ask HN: What are you learning?
Operating Systems, specifically BSD sockets/multi threading.

I'm a JavaScript/Node.Js fanatic, figure it's time for me to up my game and go first principles.

Operating System Concepts by Silbeschatz, Galvin and Gagne to the rescue.

humility··on Pgloader – migrate your data from any SQL database into PostgreSQL
We're using it for migration from sqlite to postgres. Never found a more useful single line command.
humility··on Ask HN: How do you handle logging?
1) Build a proper (local) logging service in your app. With Node.Js I use winstonjs/winston.

2) Use time series databases to log your server metrics. Eg. InfluxDB

3) Familiarize yourself with CLI tools like cat, less, tail, grep, sed for when you have to get your hands dirty with raw data.

4) Logrotate is a great choice to cap the size of different program logs.

humility··on Ask HN: What Neural Networks/Deep Learning Books Should I Read?
Hey, I did not take an undergraduate course in Algorithms but I'm super interested in AI, especially neural nets and deep learning- would you recommend I start with the background book?

Thanks for your suggestion btw.

humility··on Switch from Chrome to Firefox
I seriously don't understand why people have been gravitating towards Chrome for years despite Google being synonymous with surveillance, even on Linux. Google chrome is the fifth most popular download on Arch User Repository[1].

Alternatives like ungoogled chromium exist, but aren't as powerful/stable as the real thing, so why not use Firefox. Call me overly optimistic, but augmenting the firefox/mozilla community with participating/privacy conscious users can only lead to good down the line.

humility··on Ask HN: Best alternative to Gmail?
I've been using mailbox.org with a custom domain for over two years now. Although it's not free, the plans are quite cheap(starting from EUR 1/month). Have not had a single issue with it.

General masses in Sweden are way better off than those in the US, I'd call that a better approach!
humility··on Jack Dorsey giving up 30% of his stake in Square to help underserved communities
Does anyone else feel like it's the government's responsibility to help all the needy sections of the society, and billionaires intervening only abets and condones all the deliberate/unintentional mistakes of the former, and lets them escape it?
humility··on YC Research
Congratulations on this great endeavour! I've frequently mulled setting up website like patreon to help support and accelerate crucial research, which is seeing less and less progress these days. I'm glad YCombinator took note of this problem too!
