humanlever··on Ask YC: Getting Involved in Open Source
The easiest way to get involved with an open source project is to find one you like and then hit someone up to find out more.

Depending on your interests and skill set, we're always looking for help with Miro (http://getmiro.com/).

humanlever··on Scribd Launches "Most Interesting Hard Drive Contest" - Win a MacBook Air
The whole point of the site is to post and share documents, which is what this contest is encouraging people to do. In terms of SEO, inbound linking is never irrelevant.

So how is that not marketing genius?
humanlever··on Ask PG: Shall we ban Techcrunch articles?
If you add in the ability to downmod submissions this place will rapidly turn into Digg. i.e. An environment where a handful of people control the majority of the information.

As far as excluding TC content goes, while I could live without it, think about the number of AWESOME discussions that would have killed in the past, then ask yourself if that's what you want for the future.

humanlever··on Ask YC: I have to iron. Where can I quickly find interesting non-fiction video besides ted.com
Check out https://www.miroguide.com/ for one of the most comprehensive listings of video feeds you'll find anywhere.
humanlever··on Why Facebook apps are focused on fun, not utility
Social networks are first and foremost venues to interact with peers.

If I want to talk about an RFP with a client or an app. spec. with a developer, I hit them up on email, Skype, etc.

That's not to say sites like Facebook don't have business value, just that to be successful, applications should be relevant to the platform they're distributed through.

If you want to build an app. for business use and expect adoption, Salesforce.com is a much better prospect than Facebook. If you want to share LOLcats, Facebook's where it's at.

humanlever··on Ask YC: Why doesn't Google use better technology to build its services (e.g., Flash)?
Google revolves around information accessibility, using Flash for anything besides the presentation of graphics is a big step back in that area.

Youtube may make good use of Flash, but even they limit it to areas of absolute necessity.

humanlever··on Evan Williams: Twitter not abandoning Rails
That's because Twitter's architecture was designed using the Bob Dole school of infrastructure...it can't stay up.
humanlever··on Twitter Said To Be Abandoning Ruby on Rails
You've got a point regarding the inside scoop however, Facebook doesn't suffer a global outage on an almost weekly basis either.
humanlever··on Ask YC: What are starting salaries for CS grads this year?
According to Fortune's best places to work (http://tinyurl.com/3dofj9), Adobe isn't a bad gig.

You can use the same list to see what people are making at different companies and what kinds of perks they're getting. i.e. A software developer at the SAS Institute pulls down $104,566/yr.

humanlever··on What Have Been Your Experiences With SEOs?
I think one of the best things you can do if you're committing to major SEM is put out an RFP. The responses can not only save you money but give you some valuable insight into the company's workings and strategy which can be just as valuable as any cost savings.
