Agreed but it's quite fair in the context of modern gaming. A lesser game might even have a tech tree and a progression acting as a tutorial. "You have reached a population of 20! You can now build cabinets and statues!"
I have 16 GB of memory with swap off yet still sometimes get lag and freezes due to low memory. An aggressive OOM killer or a performance watchdog should be considered a mandatory feature. On desktop I'd much rather have my programs shut down than get any lag.
This is a shocking aspect of crypto. Old standards get broken regularly, yet people waltz around with a "it would be embarrassing to do more since no one else does" attitude.
Ubuntu is the most professional choice. It has the easiest set-up with the best hardware and software support. I would not recommend the LTS version though unless you really don't mind outdated software.
I rather find youtube is the only google site it would hurt to go without as a user. Google's search quality is not that different compared to competitors, and mail and maps are totally replaceable.
I wonder what exactly was the bug? As far as I can google it's not been made public. https://www-ssl.intel.com/content/dam/www/public/us/en/docum... (errata for the CPU I have, and I just tested and the TSX instructions aren't disabled on it btw. I probably enabled TSX in BIOS and forgot about it) mentions minor issues with string instructions' interaction with TSX, rdrand having a chance of hanging if called within a transaction, but the bug blamed for the disabling of TSX (HSW136) is just described as "unpredictable system behavior" "under a complex set of internal timing conditions and system events".
That might be the chorus when it comes to selling new languages, but there is no reason C could not be compiled with memory safety. It is not done because by the end of the day people don't care for safety much.
That's far too optimistic. I can't find the full text of this dementia study, but the one where they concluded sauna improves cardiovascular health barely gives any thought to the idea that perhaps men with a worse subjective assessment of their health are more likely to find it unwise to go to sauna too frequently. (In the closing paragraph they do a disclaimer "It is possible that underlying diagnosed or undiagnosed diseases may affect saunabathing habits, but our subgroup analyses according to various clinical characteristics were consistent.")
There is also that the quality of the old closed source fglrx driver was just ass. It would be naive to think all code coming from AMD has acceptable quality.
I'm way late to reply, but I never really understood what would qualify as pass by reference according to that logic :D you do have to pass a value eventually, it can't be references all the way
So what in perl made it conductive to that kind of coding? I never worked with perl much but back then I got the impression perl being line-nose or whatever was more legend than reality. Perl's not a different paradigm like APL.
And by references I meant exactly that perl is not pass by reference, unlike just about any other scripting language. R is the only other popular one I can think of that's not. There's shell too but it doesn't count.
There's nothing standard about perl (parameter passing via lists, DIY OO, references in a scripting language, and there has to be more that I don't remember anymore - IMO these are the true reasons perl lost its popularity while ruby and python remain lively), nor is perl compact compared to other scripting languages. The parameter passing stuff especially made perl a verbose language.
If mathematicians used longer notation then "the obscure symbol defined 5 pages back that I totally would remember if it was spelled out" would be more like 30 pages back. Brevity and standard notation are critical for understanding.
You just don't have enough contempt for humanity. The masses are unaccountable and will lie as much as they think they can get away with. It won't help them. They will lose sight of their self-interests as they become more and more detached from the facts of the world.
I would not consider the Nordic re-education system successful. Cynically speaking, it's designed to strike the unemployed from official counts, and the unemployment rate still ends up being higher than in the US. (Sweden 7.8%, US 4.9%)
IMHO Qubes (https://www.qubes-os.org/) is the only desktop distro with worthwhile differentiation. Most of the other distros' gimmicks fall under "who cares" if you just want to browse the web and program.
