hsienmaneja··on Marijuana addiction is real, and rising
If someone is self medicating with pot, and pot is making their lives worse (which is the case for some users), the pot is a problem in and of itself.

Drug culture itself is riddled with such booby traps. Fallaious street wisdom backed by egos and peer pressure are powerful tools to indoctrinate a child into an unexpected lifetime of addiction to substances such as pot.

hsienmaneja··on Marijuana addiction is real, and rising
This isn’t the reality for all. Not everyone remains productive like Seth Rogen when perpetually stoned.

Many people waste away their lives stoned and the problem seems to be getting worse while the quality of pot skyrockets to all time highs.

hsienmaneja··on Marijuana addiction is real, and rising
Actually, the notion that pot isn’t addictive is the street wisdom, or was when I was growing up. This is in contradiction to the reality.
hsienmaneja··on Marijuana addiction is real, and rising
Pot destroys lives in part by being so apparently benign.
hsienmaneja··on Marijuana addiction is real, and rising
That you experience significant physical withdrawal symptoms from marijuana certainty calls into question the street wisdom that pot isn’t (physically) addicting.

Good point, just took a look at the picture of a 2014 mbp which I had previously. Something about the older up/down arrows was much better, and I can’t put my finger on it (literally, since I do not have the 2014 anymore).

America is a wonderful place to be rich or wealthy. Medical concerns are a top reason for personal bankruptcy.

That article offered almost no analysis of substance. Instead, unsubstantiated bulletpoints. Not doubting the claims but the article was barely an overview.
hsienmaneja··on Why ActivityPub is the future
It might be more accurate to say that a social standard would need to support productized client evolutions that outlook and others provided along the way of email’s evolutionary path.
hsienmaneja··on The NSA’s Hidden Spy Hubs in Eight U.S. Cities
Releasing such info furthers subversive causes, as did disrupting active missions, having the Oahu tunnel shut down, and informing criminals and adversaries of our activities.

A privileged electrical technician torches your establishment to the ground and says he should be thanked for forcing you to rebuild stronger.

hsienmaneja··on The NSA’s Hidden Spy Hubs in Eight U.S. Cities
This isn’t a popular place for such a viewpoint.
hsienmaneja··on Ask HN: Is it ever okay for a physically healthy person to self terminate?
The burning jumper scenario isn’t quite the same. In the case of 9/11 twin towers, the jumpers were murdered, they didn’t commit suicide. Death was certain for them whether they had jumped or not.
hsienmaneja··on Ask HN: Is it ever okay for a physically healthy person to self terminate?
Procreation is relevant not due to the responsibility aspect (which may change things), but because I wouldn’t want to have brought an unwanted life into existence.

I don’t prefer death to life, i just don’t want to be alive. No clue what death may be like. Could be infinitely horrible or the opposite.

hsienmaneja··on Ask HN: Is it ever okay for a physically healthy person to self terminate?
Thankfully I’ve never procreated.

Imagine being trapped in an unwanted life, wanting to die, but staying alive because it is “right” for others.

Some simply want to be dead, not seek medical help. The arrangement of western life, however, is that one is expected to “seek help” when they’ve decided to pack it in.

hsienmaneja··on Suicides Have Increased. Is This an Existential Crisis?
I keep a kit on standby in case things get too bad. I desire to die perpetually and am generally cynical about the human meat sack condition.
hsienmaneja··on Model predicts we're the only advanced civilization in the observable universe
Yes, give enough time and energy, we could build a technological hell on a perpetually wandering spaceship.

Being not alone is far, far scarier given worst case scenarios. Much better to die than be captured by a malicious higher intelligence.

Sorry but this is true. Content is controlled by what are likely deterministic algorithms fed from the actions of end users. Users therefore can and do “own” the content.

hsienmaneja··on Making Pulled Pork with React Native, Expo, and Express
Engineering is not about “getting stuff done”, but what you’ve described isn’t engineering. The word is thrown around too loosely in the software world.
