hsienmaneja··on Russia Sells 80% of Its US Treasuries
Looking historically, there were periods where interest rates remained low for a long period of time. How long can we afford to hold up bonds going forward? Such a question has been asked by the zero hedge and other pessimist crowd for at least the past 15 years of this bull market in bonds.

At a basic game strategy level, you might assume that Russia either has good info or has been deceived. Thus one could bet that we are at an inflection point with bonds, with a move away in either direction. A look at the long term 30 year interest rate chart we are at long term downtrend. So a trader may use a simple strategy, by playing direction or volatility away from that downtrend line.

hsienmaneja··on Ask HN: When we will see the rest of the Snowden docs?
Thanks for your insights. May I ask why you believe too much info is leading to analysis paralysis? Because of Binney or Snowden?

Also, I read the document just now that Snowden leaked related to the corporate espionage. What our IC was doing is nothing compared to the broad theft other cultures engage in without any moral concern as a matter of course in that culture. I find Snowden and Greenwald leaking such a document to be hugely offensive and anti-American. The intercept’s analysis of some “subversion of society” is totally overblown. Such an underworld of spies is bound to be dirty and the general public doesn’t know enough of the reality to understand that. I believe in the American way and disagree that we should not have an offensive cyber strategy as well, but agree about fortifying (and reinventing) our defenses. Offensive biological strategy is something different, not seeing the parallel.

As for your insights about Iraq I’ll ask around. Good to get your info here.

hsienmaneja··on Ask HN: When we will see the rest of the Snowden docs?
Most people in the military I speak to absolutely have the opposite conviction. In fact all of the people with whom I’ve acquainted myself are against the Snowden leaks. Maybe it’s geographical. I’m talking to people in my state only.

My take on the follow up leaks is that they were chosen to give the impression of a trail to something much more insidious, but were actually picked in some attempt to obtain maximum impact in embarrassing United States.

Also, why would you want classified info that’s not related to domestic surveillance shenanigans leaked to the public? Everything that has been released since the initial revelations seems to be related to military operations. Maybe I’m missing something.

hsienmaneja··on Ask HN: When we will see the rest of the Snowden docs?
First off, the official narrative is that he passed them off to reporters.

Secondly, what in the releases in the intercept public releases specifically compels you to want to see more classified info?

I might suggest a military path if you want a strong chance to be in the intelligence community, then you can be privy to sensitive info that is need to know.

If you believe info should be free I respect your right to believe in that and the service members of our military also fight for your right to do so as well, while keeping classified info private.

So, to hack such a mechanism, a $10,000,000 reward seems fair. To the right buyer, the value is potentially open ended.

Some victim out there will rely on this as a turn key security solution to protect their high value data.

See if you can get hands on with the system, preferably a staging/dev clone. Break it, try changing a feature, adding a feature, dig in anywhere that’s comfortable. Just reading docs even excellent ones isn’t always the most efficient path to grok a new system.

hsienmaneja··on Marijuana addiction is real, and rising
A child with an undeveloped mind gets stoned and is profoundly impacted by it. The act of getting into pot in the first place is the divergent event that led to the deteriorated life path in some cases. The pot use itself is a root cause for the child, and they would have been better off never having got into it at all.

As for destructive catalysts, no, not all people are well on their way to a negative future when they take up such habits. The drugs/gambling etc are the destructive behaviors that should be avoided altogether or stopped as a priority.

Considering the well documented effects of high grade pot, it’s fairly easy to see that a normal child can be profoundly impacted by pot. Their entire lives get off track after getting into weed. So, no, not all people that mess up their lives on pot were well on their way to a negative future.

hsienmaneja··on Marijuana addiction is real, and rising
Well, the pot physical addiction debate is where we started.

If people experience significant physical withdrawal symptoms from cessation of pot use (which seems to be the case for some), then for those people, it absolutely is physically addicting.

hsienmaneja··on Marijuana addiction is real, and rising
No, drug use isn’t consistently picked up in the aftermath of disaster. It’s often near the beginning, and lubricates destructive behavior, even pot.

Pot absolutely catalyzes issues in people’s lives. Many would be far better off not using it at all.

hsienmaneja··on Marijuana addiction is real, and rising
I bet with further research done properly (which will take decades starting now) we will find that pot use from an early age is not only correlated to diminished quality of life for some, but is a contributing underlying factor enough to tip scales for some.

Michael Phelps can down McDonald’s but some are better off limiting their fast food intake. Everyone reacts differently to different arrangements of chemicals in different quantities.

hsienmaneja··on Marijuana addiction is real, and rising
Physicians often have colloquially considered pot to not be a root cause for some patients, when it should be.

If a child starts self medicating with pot and then their life deteriorates along with their pot usage, there needs to be a focus on cessation of usage, particularly since the child’s brain is still developing.

This has nothing to do with addressing any other underlying issues that the child may be experiencing. Regardless, some people are best off staying away from pot entirely (as well as other substances that are not part of this discussion).

hsienmaneja··on Marijuana addiction is real, and rising
Copy that. Getting into semantics, from the descriptions here, one could describe the withdrawal symptoms to be physically/practically significant for some cowards.
