hruzgar··on Show HN: Heynote – A dedicated scratchpad for developers
great application and something i didnt ask for but needed somehow ;) Sometimes i have to quickly write something down for the reasons you stated. Then i have to open a text editor like Windows Editor or Notepad++. These are nice but they really don't have the feeling to write things down. You have somewhat of an anxiety that you'll lose that data if you forget to save it. Also there is no vim support and stuff like that. So i really liked the idea and would definitely use it if it gets vim support! Also one thing i realized is that the cursor starts at the bottom of 'the note' or whatever i should call it. It would be great too if i got the cursor position where i left it when i closed the app. Also on Windows there is a black bar on the top which should be removable i think looking at obsidian and other js apps. Whatever these are just some small things and im sure they'll get fixed soon. Thank you for the great application and i hope it succeeds!!
hruzgar··on Show HN: Open source alternative to ChatGPT and ChatPDF-like AI tools
You guys really didn't get the joke, right? <-)
hruzgar··on Show HN: How did your computer reach my server?
I asked chatgpt to give me answers to these questions as I'm also in the process of learning these things. What do you think of these answers? Would chatgpt pass the interview?

1. *"What is a packet?"* - A packet is a data unit sent over a network, encapsulated within protocols like IP and TCP/UDP. It contains both the payload (actual data) and control information such as source and destination IP addresses. Packets enable efficient routing and reassembly at the destination in network communication.

2. *"What is a router?"* - A router is a device that forwards data packets between networks, operating at the network layer. It uses IP addresses, routing tables, and algorithms to determine the best path for packet forwarding, connecting different network types and managing traffic between internal and external networks.

3. *"How does a packet get to the destination?"* - A packet reaches its destination through routing. It passes through routers that consult their routing tables to forward the packet. The packet traverses multiple networks, with IP protocols guiding it towards the destination, ensuring error checking and congestion handling.

4. *"What if there's a routing loop?"* - In a routing loop, a packet is passed continuously between routers. The Time-To-Live (TTL) field in IP packets prevents endless loops by decrementing each time a packet passes a router. If TTL hits zero before the destination is reached, the packet is discarded to prevent network clogging. Routing protocols also have mechanisms to detect and prevent loops.

they most likely already do this and honestly it's really really scary
hruzgar··on My Fediverse use – I'm hosting everything myself – PeerTube, Mastodon and Lemmy
maybe not exactely what you're looking for (not open source and not non profit) but there is some solutions out there like this one: https://elest.io/

hruzgar··on Floorp – A customisable Firefox fork from Japan
For me at least it helps to know that it's not somehow secretly connected to some American intelligency agency
hruzgar··on Ask HN: How do you manage photos, philosophically?
I started using Google photos first but then stopped using it after I found out that they completely lock you in and you can't really export all your photos seamlessly while still having the time stamps. Now I have all of my photos on onedrive but will migrate to immich in a few months. Open source and selfhosted btw. https://github.com/immich-app/immich
hruzgar··on Show HN: ElectricSQL, Postgres to SQLite active-active sync for local-first apps
Wow, awesome project and team you've got here! I've been dreaming of something like this for years, so it's super cool to see you guys making it happen for everyone.

Quick question about the business side of things: I saw you're Apache 2.0 and VC-backed. So what's the plan for making money down the line?

hruzgar··on ‘Gigantic’ power of meat industry blocking green alternatives, study finds
im not against vegans but trying to stop people from eating "real meat" and making propaganda for it is just really weird
hruzgar··on Ask HN: How many of us have (nearly) abandoned Reddit over the API debacle?
started using lemmy. But the community over there is so based
hruzgar··on Firefox finally outperforming Google Chrome in SunSpider
Same, the UI needs a bit of change. It doesn't need to be anything fancy. Just something simple like basic chromium would be nice
hruzgar··on Bypassing YouTube video download throttling
So make a nice, good documented blog post for google engineers to understand and fix this issue?? Whyy

hruzgar··on Making AMD GPUs competitive for LLM inference
He was the one who pushed AMD to improve their drivers. So yeah, without him this wouldn't be possible.
hruzgar··on EurKEY: The European Keyboard Layout – For Europeans, Coders and Translators
I think generally this layout is more for programmers. If you're programming more than writing a text in your language, eurkey is certainly the way to go. I for myself switched to it and will never look back.
hruzgar··on SymmetricDS: Open-Source, cross platform database replication software

hruzgar··on Expo – Open-source platform for making universal apps for Android, iOS, and web
Would be nice if an expo dev could assure us that this won't happen and also remove the dependencies for them while building
