I paid for my domain name and got an SSL certification along with that purchase. In all, it was USD 15. IMO, that is not overpriced at all.

Wow. I just realised. Nevertheless, I wouldn't term it racist.

hrasm··on Ask HN: As a non-tech solo founder, should I hire this dev to build my MVP?
Unless you have prior experience in extracting exactly what you want from places like elance or guru, I say go with the Rails dev you spoke with/met.

Like I said, my understanding is very limited. I was parroting an informative comment I read sometime atleast two years ago.
hrasm··on OpenBSD: a puffy in the aquarium
OpenBSD is an awesome piece of software. One OS that, to my limited understanding, clearly demarcates userland and kernel boundaries. And if I recall correctly, a critical X related bug was patched in OpenBSD during a regular code audit. Clearly, they have very good security and audit practices in places.

However, there was this one incident when Theo trained all his salvos on this one kid who had the audacity to email the list about his pet project which was an extension of OpenBSD of some sort (open source of course). Technically, Theo was right. But his style rubbed me the wrong way. I have since then discontinued using OpenBSD.

Isometric view refers to the way in which 3D objects are represented on a 2D plane. This is the most preferred view in drawing building plans and the like. The other method is called Perspective view in which parallel lines on a 3D object converge to a point on the 2D representation. For e.g., a long-shot picture of a straight railroad track. This is what we usually see in pictures, paintings and the like.

Kind of makes me wonder if similar reporting styles played a large part in the late 90s boom/collapse.
hrasm··on I'm 16, and need advice
I wish I had your line of thought when I was your age.

If I were you, I would focus on the academic commitments at hand. If you are ahead of the pack, I suggest that you pick up advanced level stuff. Why? It will really hone your skills at critical thinking. All math problems are puzzles waiting to be solved; some are interesting and some are rote but important.

But if you are dead set on jumping right in, try and work out some biz models on your ideas. "Am I looking to make money? If so, why?" "What would people pay for?" "Does my idea solve an existing problem" "How/when will my 'great website idea' make money?" "If I look at this idea as an investor, would I invest in it?", etc.

Some feedback:

1. I am not a designer but I could'nt help notice that the footer is way too cluttered. You might want to group them.

2. Dropdown box doesn't work well if JavaScript is disabled. Though I dropdown to Bangalore and hit search, the search results are for DelhiNCR. Ditto for after search results are displayed. Seems to work properly if I change the URL directly though. You might want to degrade gracefully for JavaScript disabled browser settings.

3. Again, not a designer but a map background is not too original and gives me feeling that the page is too busy.

4. Chennai search results are somehow fetching unrelated Jaipur deals. [Searched for Spa in Chennai.] In fact, only the top three were Chennai related I think. And in that, opening up the sasta.com result led to a "more-deals" template page.

5. You might want to geoip and set the default city accordingly.
